    THX Certified

---------------- On 1/24/2005 1:31:01 PM syd wrote: What does everyone think.....when looking for a receiver should I get something that's THX certified or is it just a gimmick? ---------------- Is it a gimmick? No. Is it necessary? No. The question is whether or not 'you' want to pay a little extra to have the certification.
  2. Yeas I looked past Babs and watched it anyways. Funny movie, but, not even as funny as the First.

  4. And the 37" widescreen (16:9) and the 40" Standard (4:3) displaying a 1.85:1 image has the same screen size (552 sq.in)

Over twice the viewing area on the 37" display. ---------------- Yes it is, that's about the size of my 40" 4:3 Sony displaying a 2.35:1 image (432 sq.in.) plus for regualar (4:3) broadcasts I'm watching them with 767 sq. inches of viewing area were as the 37" widescreen (16:9) is at 436 sq. inches.

The price in canada is 898$ + tax (15%) (around 720 US). I will try to deal the price, I bought already my towers and center at the same klipsch dealer, I hope he will lower a little bit. If not, I guess I will go somewhere else... ---------------- They should, the mark up on speakers is like furniture and jewlery.. very high. I think around 50%. I purchased my RW-12 when they came out for around $625 (USD). With you purchasing other Klipsch speakers form them they should give you atleast a 20%-25% discount. Good Luck
  7. The RSW series are non-ported, higher wattage amps, comes in furniture grade finishes. The RW series are ported, lower watt amps, black finish and so forth. The RSW subs range in price form $1,000-1,800 MSRP while the RW subs range from about $400-$700.
  8. To me it depends upon the cable company. I'm sure different cable companys have different PQ. For satillite I have been using Direct for about 9 years. The PQ is excellent. Does the signal go out for a short time, yes if the is a big thunderstorm to the south. But as said previously is only a short time. With cable, nine years ago, I had a terrible reception and It went out all the time for hours. Now that was not digital cable so take it for waht its worth. With Direct I pay 50.00 per month for two rooms with Starz/Encore.

Very Good movie, has the guy from the Transporter along with the "new" Tom Cruise".

    5.1 or 7.1

A lot depends upon the amount of room you have in the back. I have a 6.1 set up and placed a RC-3II in the back. If you have a wall in the back then some in-wall speakers will work or you can mount some RS's in the back. You will have problem if your seating position is against the back wall. Let us know your layout and we will give you some suggestions.

Please do not confuse technology with build quality... ---------------- Exactly, but it still does not change the fact that players today were triple what they charge back then. Yes the build quality in expensive players are better (they better be) but you are paying for some of the latest technology that will make there way down in to tomarrows players. I do think there is a point of diminishing return on players. Giff, I'm sure you have had a change to compare the 150 players to the 1,500 players on the same display. Is there any noticable difference between them.

    Open Water

Yes, I to was a little excited to see the movie in DTS-ES, then was quickly supprised I did not hear any sound effects. Overall the movie was dissapointing.
  13. I have experimented both ways (large vs. small) and to be quite honest I could not tell that much of a difference with my system.
  14. One thing I would like to point out is todays $150 players were yesterdays $600 players. So the components in todays $800 players will be in tomarrows $200 units.
  15. Even if it was on Sale for $1.00 I would take a pass.
  16. The RW-12 can definitely go lower and louder. Is it worth it? To me yes. But It's ultimitly your call. If your satsified with the RW-10 then the extra dollars may not be worth it. To me you cannot have to powerful of a sub..or two..or three..etc.
  17. As 007 said (by the way 007 did you check out the encore 24hrs of 007) the RW are suited for enclosures. But be sure to leave some room on the sides and back for ventalation a connections.
  18. I made the same mistake this weekend. Probable the worst movie I have seen in a while. No wonder the shelve was full of them. I will no next time.
  19. Don id right, there is no comparison. Listening to movies in 2.0 is just like listening a movie through your TV. DD5.1 and DTS movies are the only way to go.

Sony Direct Views have the best picture hands down 2. A vast majority of my viewing is not widescreen DVD's or HD. 3. A 40" has a bigger picture then a 34" widescreen (displaying a 16:9) or a 42" widescreen displaying a 4:3 picture. 4. Very few movies in 1.78:1 ratio so unless you streach the picture you are still going to have black bars.
  21. Yes my Yamaha is the same. The wording you need to see is "Up-Conversion". Up-converting to component is a very new (relatively speaking) to receivers and they were on the higher end ones at that.

I would take it back to the store and have them test it vs. another RW-12.

    Fifth Element

I'm starting to count how many times they can re-release a movie. Fifth Element is starting to get up there.
  24. I could never get into this movie. Guess my attention span is too short.
  25. It was directed by Clooney. Very interesting move. Sheds some light on Chucks strange personality.
