  1. For those living on hill tops and are unable to get an 8ft rod all the way in the ground due to rocks. If you will dig a 6 to 8 inch hole with post hole diggers as deep as possible. Then cut off the rod and center it in the hole, and fill the hole with Bentonite this will multiply the surface area of the ground rod. Same as skin effect in going form solid wire to stranded wire, multiply`s the surface area. This info came from a ham operator that is a lawyer for the power company here in Arkansas. Who lives on one of the higher points in the northern part of Pulaski county; nothing but rocks under the top soil. Bill

  4. Your best bet is to unplug and disconnect everything during these storms. Having been in the Ham Radio hobbie for many years and have listened to many stories of how people have protected their equipment and homes and still had major damage; The final conclusion is to have everything of value out of the loop. My best friend has had at least 4 strikes with 1 of them coming over the power line and the others over the phone line, taking out everything that was plugged in including the central heat and air. Bill
  5. Make him an offer that you are comfortable with. Show him some cash and walk if he doesnt take it. Got to treat him like a car salesman. If you get them keep them all and be happy. Bill

  7. Protect your ears. even if just for a few minutes or all day long protect your hearing. I have hearing loss and i have always worn the foam ear plugs, the good ones not the cheap ones. And now working around Jet planes the noise can be even worse. It`s not the sound of the engines running it is the sound of the air rushing into the engine. we just had our annual test last month; and there are several guys that have a lot more damage than i do. Bill

  10. They were gone before i got to see them up for sale. It was the wife`s birthday and she would not have been happy with me for spending the money on myself on her special day. Gilbert what did you think of the track in Bahrain? If they could just control the sand and dirt on the track it would be even better. Look`s like that prancing stallion is at it again this year! Bill

One of the guys at work has invited us to come and look and see what we can find. Bill

  19. One of my friends and fellow hams just put up a full waveloop i will have to ask him about it. i have seen it and it is spread all over the place. It took him most of the day to get it up; having to trim limbs and get the ropes up. I think he used 75 ohm coax instead of ladder line. i will find out this weekend and let you know. I do know that the SWR is flat, which was a must for him. using a Icom HF rig and a Alpha amp at over 1500 watts. He has missed placed the 5000 watt slug for his Bird watt meter and he can only check it up to 1500 until he finds or buys another slug. 73`s Bill KJ5DQ
