When buying older khorns you're sure to find improvement with updated crossovers made by any one of the crossover gurus here on the forum as they drift out of spec over the years. Good luck with your search! ---------------- LOL!! Yeah, we all know how you suffer so. Patience is the key, I think, and blind/dumb luck. As long as you have your eyes and ears open a pair that you'll love will come along. Forrest
  2. We have a great local station here, 93.3 WKCT. Sunday evenings there's 'Dead Air' centered around Grateful Dead and related Jam Bands/Indie Music. Monday night a blues show hosted by Greg Martin (of the Kentucky Headhunters) ... a local guy with HUGE numbers of connections. He's always setting up the greatest on air interviews with Blue's greats throughout the land. Late Monday is the LowDown HoeDown... a showcase of local talent. The local NPR station has the usual goodies.. Car Talk, Piano Jazz, Prarie Home Companion (LOVE that show), and a locally produced show 'Barren River Breakdown' which is dedicated to Bluegrass/Folk music.
  3. Contribute directly to the relief efforts! Donate to the International Red Cross http://www.ifrc.org/helpnow/donate/donate_response.asp (be patient, it's busy, as you can imagine) There's also the fantastic United Nations Children's Fund. http://www.unicef.org/infobycountry/indonesia_24608.html Everyone here is richer than 90% of the world. $25.00 to either of these great organizations directly helping the Tsunami victims would give you a warm fuzzy. (fini! what an opening!) Whaddaya waiting for? Do it! Forrest
  4. Got 1976 Klipschorns 2 weeks ago! Yay! Had no room for the Cornwalls, so I took them and put them with their older brothers in my church's main room. (4 cornwalls produce quite an awesome sound in a big room, let me tell ya!) Bought a pair of Heresys for my son's stereo. Received my Scott 355 / 208 combo from NosValves in January, and while this isn't Klipsch, per se, it sure makes 'em sing. Forrest
  5. Dean, A very cool thing you're doing. thanks! forrest
  6. Here in Bowling Green, KY we had 2" of ice and freezing rain that left world coated in glass, as another poster so aptly described. Christmas Eve was a full sun day with a high of around 14 degrees, and the world was stunningly beautiful. Just as if a million prisms were aiming their rainbows everywhere. Last night (christmas eve) I walked the four blocks to a midnight service in 4 degree weather (farenheit) on the ice, and took in the twinkling of all the christmas lights helped by the 'glass'. We had just enough freezing rain to coat the trees yet spare them from damage. The world seemed magical on the walk home last night. One of the best parts about a good, deep snow is the silence that follows. It's a hassle but I always love the snow. Forrest
  7. Merry Christmas to all of you! Forrest
  8. 76. Year of birth of my Khorns. This is very generous of you Dean. thanks and Merry Christmas! Forrest
  9. btw, nice score. A little loving care will do them just right. Forrest
  10. I actually had a good experience at Best Buy a year ago. I was in there showing my son the Bose surround system and telling him to listen for what's NOT there, and the somewhat older salesman walks up and introduces himself. He then asks if I was interested in a Home Theater. I say no, just like all the acoustic tricks but that I'm really into stereo anyway. He asks what I have... Cornwalls and Tubes says I. He laughs and says, so there is no way in Hell you'll be buying this and *IF* you were to try, I'd have to hurt you. I laughed at that and we got to talking a bit. He liked old Jensen stuff and vinyl. I didn't buy anything that day, but when I bought a playstation II and then later, a TV, I asked specifically for him so he would get the commission. Last month I had to buy a washing machine for a rental unit and as usual asked for Tom. Tom now worked at HH Gregg (they wouldn't tell me that, but the phone book did)... so I went to HH Gregg to get the washing machine. anyway, I've never had a bad experience at Best Buy. There will be the first time, I'm sure. Forrest
  11. My 1985 Cornwall I's have the B-3 crossovers. I'm sure someone here can guess the date range from that, but judging from the drivers... I'd say between 1982 - 1985. That's because I knew there'd be plenty of jazz already there If you saw my little vinyl collection, you'd either assume that more than one person contributed to it, or be quite convinced that I was a hopeless eccentric. When Iron Maiden sits next to the 5th Dimension, flanked by Frank Zappa and Joni Mitchell, right near the Billy Joel and Men At Work, you're looking at an eccentric record collection ---------------- nah, that's the collection I would expect of a good musician.
  13. Hey Paul, If you are a fan of unaccompanied choral singing, Christmas eve at 10a.m. central (just under 10 hours from now) the annual broadcast of Kings College Choir nine lessons and carols. Always superb. 10am EST / 9am CST. NPR.. Also tomorrow afternoon at around 2 pm on NPR (check your local stations) Chanticleer will be singing. Good Gawd Awmighty! Talk about mind-bending! Right now I'm listening to Duke Pearson's Xmas cuts. Good stuff. forrest

  15. Most amps go only to 10, but I'm still looking for the one that will go to 11. (apologies to Spinal Tap) Seriously, I'm into moderate volume clarity. I was wise beyond my years those 10 years I played in rock and country ensembles with a Fender Twin 135 watt amp a few feet from my ears. I *almost* always wore ear protection. Turn it up, you say? Why sure. Louder, you want. Okay. Inside was always a cool 95 db or so. Some of my former band friends, especially from the rock ensemble, are starting to lose their hearing at ~45 years old. They were the ones who used to call me a 'wimp' because I didn't like the high volume. I did crank my new (to me) khorns up the other night to see how powerful they could be. I stopped long before they were even breathing hard. I still want to hear the rustle of fall leaves when I'm 90. peace, Forrest
  16. Wow... The forum has led me to: tubes and a good fellow (NosValves) to make 'em sing. Cornwalls (2 pair now.. jeesh)and the sense to leave 'em alone and love em like they are. Heresys and a SACD player from Kjohnsonhp the knowlege to know that $900 for a pair of khorns was a good deal (jumped on those like a chicken on a junebug!) Holly Cole, Coleman Hawkins, Diana Krall, Eva Cassidy www.dorian.com (thanks Jt1scav) a raw spot on my head from too much scratching (thanks fini) but best of all, The chance to give to a total stranger in need of a little help. That proved this place is for keeps. It was one of the better moments here. I'm hoping that the next year all this tech-talk will begin to make sense. I'm itching to solder something. there's more, but I'll stop now. Forrest

PureCorn... you know that CD that jtscav1 was speaking of earlier... the Virgil Fox CD? Get it for the beauty of the Toccata & Fugue and then go to the Toccata Adagio and Fugue in C. Virgil Fox recorded this when he was suffering with cancer, but you would never know it from the playing. The Adagio of the latter peace is a study in voicings from a master that will leave you breathless if you have any hint of a soul. (a bit overdone, but you get the point, eh?) That disc has some other gems, but the two Bach organ works ALONE are worth the effort to getting this recording. Trust me on this. enjoy the music! Forrest

That led me to get rid of my Bose 901's and get another pair of Corns for home. Now that a pair of Khorns literally landed in my lap (a 6 mile round trip) I took my other pair of Cornwalls to the church without ever thinking of selling them. Absolutely stunning sound! You will never regret this purchase. My first pair of Cornwalls was the most satisfying purchase I ever made. I bought them without ever hearing them based on what I read here and the belgium audio site. From the first sound pouring forth I was hooked. Enjoy! Forrest p.s. those are real beauties too!

Keep us posted on your gear purchases and how you like the changes. You'll find more opinions here then you'll ever want or need. ---------------- LOL! Ain't *that* the truth. Beautiful score on those babies! They are truly majestic sounding speakers. head on over to http://www.belgaudio.com/kcmap.htm and read some test reports that'll make you glad you made that purchase (as if your ears don't tell you already). As far as the amp not having any problem driving them... they'll kick on the power of a sneeze it seems. Forrest
  21. You might also check to be sure your speakers are in phase with each other. Make sure the positive side of the amp goes to the positive side of the speakers on both sides. It hasn't been mentioned, and it might be a contributing factor. A room with 'nightmarish' reverberation will have a difficult time getting a good sound. Best of luck, Forrest
  22. Yeah! Welcome to the club! I'm a one week old member of the '76 Khorn club. These monsters are fantastic! Pics of your project will be fun to follow. Forrest
