  1. And now there's someone on Ebay who is selling a single Belle Klipsch, it's less than an hour from my home, and it may sell for around $350 (barring last minute bidding - there's about an hour left). Temptation - leave me alone!
  2. Thanks, Shapeshifter. I wish you were nearby too, I think you'd love these (and it would be fun to hang out and compare the different Klipshes). Flason, I have to sell my Fortes and KLF-30s to get a pair of RF-7s. It's gonna hurt for a long time! Thanks for the support, though, as I've really been dreading the sale, even though I listened to the RF-7s extensively, and really loved them. Wish I could keep them all.
  3. I've got both models next to each other at this moment. They're almost the same height, but the Cornwalls are deeper and much wider. Both awesome speakers. I have to sell one set, and I'm going to sell the Forte IIs, but frankly, if I could, I would keep them both. To me, the Cornwalls are a little tighter and a little more detailed, but they have different sounds, and I could also see someone preferring the Fortes. The Cornwalls are very cool looking too. Anyway, I'm cheating a little, because I'm also keeping my Choruses, which sound more like the Fortes, to make the pain of losing the Fortes a little less!
  4. I had a complete set of Wharfedale speakers I got from UBID for my home theater set up. At the time, I liked it and was proud of my system. Then one day, I got a Klipsch 2.1 from UBID, just because I got it at a good deal. UBID lost and messed up the order, so I called them to just cancel it. They screwed up (as UBID so often does) and sent it to me anyways. Boy, it was like lifting a blanket off my Wharfedales! (and even though the Klipsch 2.1 were arguably a lower end model that the Wharfedale Modus 1.6 towers I had.) The voices were so much better, the dynamics were amazing. It was a live sound. Thank God to UBID for screwing up that time! That's how this all started. I then started scouring the local papers for older, bigger Klipsches. Got some Forte IIs from a garage sale and Cornwalls from an ad (both on the same day). Then some Choruses...and then... oh-oh, I feel like I'm talking to the crowd at my Speakers Anonymous meetings on Wednesday nights. The people I sold my Wharfedales to enjoy them alot (and the price was very good, despite the ordeal at UBID - I think they've gotten better). But when they want to be really wowed, they come listen to my Klipsches. It's quite a difference.
  5. I wasn't able to go to the first pilgramage, as much as I wanted to. But I don't want to miss this next one. Count me in. I'm planning to drive from LA in a hot rod I designed from a hollowed out Klipschhorn (just kidding, but it would be quite a site, using a couple of Heresies behind the rear wheelbase for the sound! The Klipschmobile!) George
  6. Wired1, Tinny? Not enough deep end? KLF-30s?! I've never heard anyone say anything even remotely like that about mine. In fact, clear, clean, and deep are the adjectives I usually hear!
  7. Apex, which has a questionable record, is coming out with their model 7701 DVD player, a universal player that does SACD AND DVD-Audio (as well as Karaoke, HDCD, MP3, you name it). And J&R is expecting them in any day at $299! Circuit City and Best Buy and a bunch of other stores all carry Apex. If this unit gets good reviews when it comes out, it may be a heck of a deal. I think they're a newer company, and I hope their quality problems of the past are behind them now (Past reviews have been very mixed). I'm going to give them a chance, after all, this is the unit all the other guys should have come up months and months ago, and it would have saved consumers a whole lot of grief in this stupid format war.
  8. I prefer the KLF-30s to the RF-3s, even though it's a tradeoff (more slam and emotion to the '30s, more detail with the RF-3s). I prefer the RF-7s to both of these. More detail than both the KLF-30s and RF-3s, and nearly (though not completely) as much slam and emotion as the 30s.
  9. Hermie, I have to second that. Ray gave me one of the best demoes I've ever gotten. Extremely high WOW factor, and he is extremely knowledgable about the products. I got to test an RF-7 system, then compare it to the KLF-30s, and I got to do it to my complete satisfaction. And he was never pushy, there was no pressure. This is beyond rare for audio dealers today - it's extraordinary! As soon as I sell my Legend system (which I love and feel guilty even talking about doing!), I'll defintely be buying my Rx-7 system from him. I walked out of there confident that I liked the Rx7s EVEN BETTER. Can one come away from Good Guys or any of my other local dealers feeling like that? When pigs fly!
  10. I've got some KSP-S6s I'm selling, in excellent shape, with original box, in white. Please make an offer if interested. They're awesome speakers, I'm just going to replace my Legend system with an Rx-7 system.

  12. Ray, The tweaked NEC LT-150 was pretty amazing. Altogether, that was a fantastic system you demoed. I can't get it out of my mind. As soon as my current living room speakers sell, the big question will be cherry, black or maple?
  13. I was lucky enough to check out Ray's (htxpert) awesome demo room. I have KLF-30's now, which I love, and have really been suffering thinking about whether I should sell 'em and get the RF-7s. Will I miss the KLF-30s maximum slam and emotion, or be blown away by the RF-7s? Ray had both set up. In all fairness, the amps we used were different, but everything else was the same. I brought a CD-R with 16 songs (Rock, Bluegrass, Opera, Classical, Pop, Salsa, Ballads) that I was really familiar with on my KLF-30s. We listened to them once on the RF-7s, then again on his KLF-30s, both in direct mode, no additional speakers or subwoofer. Both were great. Both also had a little problem with "s"s on female voices (which Ray had all sorts of suggestions for how to beat). However, the RF-7s had significantly better detail, deeper soundstage, tighter bass, and were smoother. Had almost as much slam and emotion as the KLF-30s (and much much more than the RF-3s). I loved them. To my ears, the differences stood out. Now, I also love the KLF-30s - a lot. These are two great sets of speakers, but to my ears, I ended up liking the RF-7s even more. The RF-7s are also a little smaller than the KLF-30s (though they're heavier), although to tell you the truth, I like the jabba-like, totem pole size of the KLF-30s. And the RS-7s! I love my KSP-S6s and really had a hard time even thinking of replacing them. But hearing the RS-7s today, I couldn't believe I was listening to surround speakers and not full size boxes. Blew me away. So now I have to find new owners for my mint Legend system. I'm going to try to sell my mahogany KLF-30s in Southern California, cause shipping would be a nightmare on these. Let me know if any of you are interested in my KLF-C7 center in black or KSP-S6s in white (it really hurts to even talk about selling these!) All are in great shape. I've put an ad in a local paper, but wanted to give you guys a chance to make an offer first if you're interested. thanks George PS: Ray, you're the greatest. I've never gotten a demo like that. You do Klipsch proud. It made what might have been a really hard decision relatively easy (of course, if I could I would keep the legends AND get the RF-7s - but my NEW policy is if I want a new Klipsch speaker, I have to get rid of one first!) Thanks, Ray.
  14. Randy, Now that you have both, how do you compare the RF-7s with the KLF-30s? I've got some 30s now for music and movies, and I'd have to sell them to get RF-7s. Is it worth it? thanks George
  15. I've gotten a lot of help from BobG in the past, and he's always, always been professional and honest, and very helpful. cc1091, I cannot believe that Bob could have meant what you thought, it would be completely out of character. I'd be upset, too, if I thought someone had said that to me, but I think this is a misunderstanding. Give him a chance, he deserves it.
  16. I can only compare the KLF-30 (which I have) and the RF-3 (which a friend has). The KLF-30 has more slam and emotion and is extremely involving. The RF-3, though, has more detail and finesse. I hear more things on my friend's RF-3 (using a similar receiver) than I do with my KLF-30s. That hurts. However, having to choose one of the two, I would definitely choose the KLF-30. You get really attached to a Legend model.
  17. Let's see, I have pair of Legend 30s, KSP-S6s, three LF-10 subs, and a KLF-C7, plus Chorus IIs, Forte IIs, not to mention the Klipschorn, Belle Klipsch center, and Cornwalls I have in storage waiting for a big enough room for them, plus RCW-3s and Quintets. I think I have 21 Klipsch speakers alltogether (I hope I'm not forgetting any). And I was happy (although considered possibly insane by the few friends I haven't talked into buying Klipsch speakers yet) until the RF-, RS- and RC-7s were announced. I'll have to sell something to get these, but what??? I already sold some Heresies and my first Klipschs - two sets of 2.1s I got by mistake from UBID (it's funny the best thing they ever did for me was a mistake) - and it was painful enough selling those! At least reading my new hero HornEd's posts reminds me that if I'm crazy or obsessed, I've got first class company on this board from the best (and nicest) bunch of fanatics on the web.
  18. Sorry, I just noticed my mistake above - I meant I have Klipsch LF-10 subs (not KLF-10s - which are full range speakers). Sorry for any confusion.
  19. I have a few subwoofers, a couple of less expensive ones (Dahlquist PDQ-1500 and Cambridge Soundworks original Powered Sub and Slave - both good, but better for movies than music). Then I have the Sunfire True Sub Signature and Klipsch KLF-10s. Both are good for both movies and music. It's unfair to compare the two, as the Sunfire is a $1999 unit and the Klipsch had, I believe, a $1299 list. The Klipsch is decent, tight and musical, but not too impressive (that's the only Klipsch product I've ever said that about - and it was quickly discontinued). The Sunfire, though, is in another league. It's smooth when it should, and extremely dramatic when it needs to. It's the only piece of audio electronics I have that actually scares me! It's got too much power in a box so small, and I am a little afraid of it. But I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. I love it. I am excited, though, about the new Klipsch Reference subs. Especially the huge 15" one - it was beautiful and impressive looking. I would love to hear it. And I think it's price is about the same as the Sunfire Signature I have.
  20. I remember seeing some maple speakers at the Klipsch area at the CES show, and they looked pretty nice.
  21. Bluz, If you do well in Vegas, you may want to try UBID again! I've won about 50 items on UBID, and about thirty of those were no problem. About 20 were headaches - from DOAs to damages boxes to items lost in UBID's warehouse (2 pairs of Wharfedales, and sadly, a Klipsch KSB-S6s, which they never found, and I never recovered from the trauma) to two refurbished receivers that looked like they had been beat with a stick and their remotes dropped off cliffs, to items lost for weeks in shipping but eventually found, to being billed for items they never shipped, te receiving speakers in the wrong colors. Many things they eventually fixed, after hours of calls and eternal vigilance on my part, but many things weren't. I can continue, but this is giving me some really bad flashbacks of things I really rather forget!! If you can get KLF-20s brand new from a reputable dealer, that seems like a much better deal than the RP-5s (check with Klipsch, though, that buying at J&R from out-of-state still preserves your warranty).
  22. Sorry, I forgot to say, for all those who don't know J& R are, they're J&R Music World, at www.jandr.com. I've bought a number of things from them and almost all my experiences have been good. And these prices for the KLFS are better than what some people want for them used on Ebay.
  23. I never saw UBID clearing out KLF20s or 30s, only the KLF-C7 centers (and considering that buying from UBID's auctions can often be a harrowing experience, I'd be afraid to buy something as big and bulky from them). On the other hand, I was just at the J&R website, and it looks like they may be having a clearance on them - $499 each for the KLF-30s, $399 each for the 20s and $299 each for the 10s. These are great prices. Remember these are each and not for a pair, shipping will be expensive due to weight, and they only have them in black. UBID auction prices (if they had ever had these) would probably go MUCH higher than this, and they'd probably be refurbished and come with little to no support from UBID (although they'd ahve support from Klipsch). J&R is a much more serious and reliable business to buy from, by a longshot. I've waited a long time for a sale like this, but now I have to decide whether to buy another set of 30s for the rear, or sell some of the speakers I have to buy some of the upcoming Reference RF-7s! This will not be an easy decision! Help!
  24. Colin, I have very mixed feelings about this. I bought three from UBID back when they had them. The first was DOA. Klipsch replaced it paying for shipping both ways. I couldn't be too angry. Now just a few months later, a second one just died (amp died). No free shipping to Klipsch this time, but they will honor the full warranty. The subs, when they work, are tight and musical - I love this aspect of them. I haven't been as wowed, though, for home theater - they don't have that extra oomph that lifts you off your seat during a movie explosion and makes you feel the sheer joy of having a sub. I love a sub so tight and smooth you're not always aware of it, but that also frequently brings a smile to your face. This one only succeeds at the former. For $540 they are a great deal, and infinitely tighter than anything I can think of at that price. But of course, they're only a bargain if you don't have to be sending the amp or the whole unit back to Klipsch for repairs all the time. I'm more than a little worried about this (I've spoken to others with these speakers, and have heard similar stories) I love all my other Klipsch speakers. This one I only like.
