    Remotes

I bought my MX700 on line from Etronics. It was $169. delivered in three days. I haven't had to touch any of my other four remotes since I programmed my MX. Great unit!
  3. I am a huge Alanis fan and have now purchased two of her DVDs, "FEAST ON SCRAPS,and JAGGED LITTLE PILL." IMO, they are both awful. During the course of each song, the presentation is switched among several concert venues ranging from mediocre to awful from both an audio and visual standpoint. I don't understand why she would allow these substandard works to be released. It's really a shame because I really enjoy her work, but I am not going to try anymore of her videos without some strong recommendations or an opportunity to view prior to purchase. Has anyone seen or heard these? Am I missing something? Anyway, I was just wondering if any of the remaining Alanis videos are worth the expense, or if it will be more of the same.
  4. I used a pair of door hinges on my RB35s (2 on ea.speaker, $3.75pr.), and they are sturdy and invisible. I can even angle the speakers to the sweet spot.
  5. I noticed the same thing. I have RB35s and an RC35. When setting up with Avia, it is apparent that there is difference in the sound of the speakers. I imagine the difference would be even more pronounced with the RFs. I don' think this means there is a problem, it may just be that the difference in application and design just generates slightly different sound characteristics. Overall the speakers sound great together.
  6. If economy is important, you could use some 1/2" or 3/4" inch pipe with flanges on each end. Have the pipe cut and threaded to length (actually they sell pre-threaded pieces in varying lengths). Attach one flange to the speaker, the other to the cieling, then thread both onto the pipe. You could then paint it all black or a color in tune with your decor. This would look fine and be plenty strong. Otherwise, I'm sure there are plenty of folks here with links to some very nice, but pricey, solutions.
  7. Music Match Jukebox and Satellite radio are both excellent ways to explore music by Genre without commercial interruption.
  8. I have my rear dipole surrounds mounted at about about 3 feet above the listeners heads off to the side on the rear walls. Sounds excellent. What works best in your room might require a bit of experimentation. Move them around and just see what sounds best to you.
  9. Also true on the R-V1105, my last receiver that did not have component outputs. Seems to only be an issue with the component out since OSD overlay is still available on the 2400 through the S-video out. A minor annoyance IMO.
  10. I am a Johnny Depp fan, but he really out does himself here. Great movie!
  11. Thank you both. So how significant is the trade off stepping down to S-video from component? I do not have HDTV yet. I do like having the overlay.
  12. That should be fine(16-18ga i presume)unless you are running a great distance.
  13. Just wanted to mention that I received my RX-V2400 and have been playing with it for about a week. I am not disappointed with deciding on Yamaha for the third time in a row. Now I get to re experience all of my favorite movies over again. I am amazed at how much better this receiver sounds than my 1105. Even the wife admits it sounds better. Now that is a real indication of an exponential improvement of some kind.
  14. Does anyone know if it is possible to overlay the OSD on top of a movie that is being viewed. This was possible with my RV-1105 but does not seem to be an option on the 2400. Whenever the OSD is selected the audio remains, but the picture is replaced with the OSD and a black background. I have it hooked up through the component feed. My interpretation of the manual indicates that this is the way it is designed to operate, I just want to make sure I am not overlooking anything. I don't know why they would change this.
  15. I got James Taylor, "Live at the Beacon Theater" for Christmas and it is an absolutely amazing performance and recording.
  16. Music DVD's: James Taylor Live at the Beacon Theater (Excellent), Joni Mitchell(In queue), and Fleetwood Mac's The Dance (also excellent). I also received an MX700 universal remote control and I have spent the last two days uploading my seven other remotes. So far, it ssems like a small miracle in a rugged, ergonomic package. It does everything they claim very well. No more fumbling around. Happy Holidays!
  17. Every time I expected a movie to follow a book, I was disappointed. Thay is why I quit expecting movies to mirror books. They are different media, created with different tools, that elicite different emotions ans responses. In this case, the movie and the books are both worth the time. The books were excellent, the movies IMO were the most awesomwe series I have ever seen. Seeing all three movies on the big screen was a truly amazing experience. I am really looking forward to the release of the "extended version" of ROTK. Happy Holidays!
  18. DKP-Bose acoustimass?! I saw this late, but i would have said, "I can't believe how lucky some of you are with s/o's that appreciate A/V gear as gifts!" If I tried that stunt (I wouldn't) I would be severely under the bus. Ha ha. I got mine a fine gold necklace, a leather jacket, miscelaneous sweaters and slacks, shoes, books, and partridge in a pair tree. All stuff she liked that she would not buy for herself. Happy Holidays to all!!
  19. I have had Yamaha amps for years (currently have an RV1105)and Klipsch speakers for only 8 weeks. I think the combo is terrific and will receive my new Yamaha RX-V2400 on Christmas day. It's on Santa's sleigh(UPS). I thoroughly researched and demoed the competition, such as, Denon, Pioner Elite, Onkyo, Sony ES, and others and went with the Yamaha due to stellar reviews at this price point ($689) and past satisfaction with the features, performance and the product in general. There are a lot of good options out there. You need to get out, give them a listen, compare the features and go with what sounds best to you and offers the right feature set for your needs. IMO, the Yamahas deserve a listen.
  20. I read he is dissing the Denon. Sounds like he thinks a Denon system sounds like a Yamaha System with, " a blanket thrown over the speakers!" Anyhow, we all have our preferences.
  21. cjgeraci: Thanks. I have had many more opportunities to listen to my RC35 (music and movies)since I first posted, and I have even made a couple of trips back to my dealer to listen to some other options. I'll maintian that I am thoroughly pleased with the 35s at this price point. It's too bad Klipsch's quality control let some faulty units get through. Now, I can concentrate on the RSW12 and Pioneer ELite receiver.
  22. Apple has a $99. battery replacement program. The original typically lasts 18 months.
  23. Just wondering if I'm the only one that is happy with my RC35. I am sort of new to this and recently upgraded from a very inexpensive Yamaha, so perhaps I haven't developed an ear for this yet. To me the dialogue and sound is clear and enjoyable (beautiful). I am just wondering if I might regret my purchase in the near future. Any thoughts or positive feedback on the RC35?
  24. If size and money are not an issue, I would go with the 75s.
  25. You should take a look. They are surprisingly similar in form and function. Real contenders, not the lame entries they have had for the last couple of years. I believe they are based on the same Samsung hard drives as the iPod.
