    MCACC

I've owned the Pioneer Elite 56TXi for about 7 months now. I like the sound, it's my first Pioneer. The MCACC is easy to use and works great and at the time I purchased the reciever was the most consistently accurate auto setup of all the brands. It does sound good, to my ears anyway when I use "ALL CH ADJUST". The 56TXi also has the capability to use your computer to help analyze the results but I have yet to download the software from Pioneer. Most of the time I listen with the "A. CAL EQ OFF" setting. I don't know exactly how far auto adjust can rectify for all the problems that can present themselves in your/a listening environment. Check out this thread for more info, http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?mode=viewtopic&topicID=66813&num=30&sessionID={EA359421-4B82-4D05-ACF7-7769A9BEC54C}&pageNo=1 Oh, and I do like the new AIR STUDIOS logo that Pioneer is using on its recievers. LOL. No really, I do.

  3. Erukian, thanks for posting this guide. Some really good tunes in there.

I dont think the problem is my amp, 40 watts is plenty for a 101db/watt speaker and my amp can deal with the 2.8ohms no problem, I contacted the designer and he says 2ohms is no problem, the amp could rive a 2ohm nominal impeadance with no problem so a little dip down to 2,8 isnt gonna bother it one bit. Also I did borrow a few amps from my dealer including a Bryston 4stt and a Musical Fidelity A5 which both put out over 150 watts per channel, the only real differance I heard was the bass was better. So its not the power thats the issue. I think it might just be that i heard much more expensive and better speakers and now im just not happy with the Klipschs anymore after whearing what the really really good speakers can do. Dont get me wrong Im a Klipsch guy all the way, but they are not perfect and there are better speakers out there. maybe i just finally found a speaker thats better than the klispch's, it is possible isnt it? Thansk again guys Happy Listening! ---------------- Those are two very good amps you tried, I haven't heard the newer Musical Fidelity but have heard an older lower powered one with the origional Chorus, impressive indeed. The Bryston 4BSST is awesome, a buddy of mine has a couple of them. I have an older 4BNRB model and I like it very much. One thing I tried about 10 years ago when I was playing with speaker wire is I bought some 8 gauge car audio power wire. I bought black and red and twisted them together ( it's supposed to cancel/lessen the electromagnetic field generated/produced between the wire) and just wrapped electrical tape on the ends to keep them from unwinding. I then crimped and soldered C connectors on the ends using the rubber/plastic coverings that matched the wire to cover the connections. These cables had the effect of making the Chorus II's sounding like the highs were rolled off. I think what was actually happening was the bass was attentuated making it sound like there were less highs. Not sure why they did this maybe something to do with capacitance? Perhaps someone with more electrical experience could explain why it did this. I ended up switching back to 10 gauge because to me I liked the sound better. I just switched the 12 gauge to the 8 gauge on my center that I'm using right now to see if the same effect would happen on a smaller speaker. It is a KG4.5 and I'm pretty sure I'm hearing the same effect, it's harder to tell because the Chorus II's are playing. It's a very inexpensive tweak if you wanted to try it, just make sure your equipment dealer gives you a good deal on the wire. HTH
  5. A blonde pushes her BMW into a gas station. She tells the mechanic it died. After he works on it for a few minutes, it is idling smoothly. She says, "What's the story?" He replies, "Just crap in the carburetor." She asks, "How often do I have to do that?"

The Academy is the proper center for Klipsch Heritage - or for that matter another Chorus if you can find one. ---------------- Thanks Cleve, you're right I would get better results by matching what I have now with a Chorus II center. Having just purchased rear speakers for the computer it'll be awhile before I can afford more speakers. Who knows maybe when I'm ready to buy a single will show up on eBay and I won't have to buy another pair. Good luck with your system.
  7. I've been watching the single CF-4 myself to use as a center for my Chorus II's. I have'nt noticed any threads discussing the use of the CF line being used as centers but I'm sure a CF-4 would kick a$$ on any system. Shipping for my Chorus II rears was around US $360.00 including insurance and packaging at a UPS store. Having them packaged there is the only way to go as far as I'm concerned because then there is no doubt about who is responsible should they arrive damaged. I'm not going to be bidding on the CF-4, I'm waiting for a pair of KG 3.5's I just bought to use as rears for my computer with KG 4.5's and a KV3 center but if I was I would definitely email the guy and see if he would be willing to take it to a UPS store. 8. Here's the one I was thinking about. A blind man enters a "Ladies Bar" by mistake. He finds his way to a bar stool and orders a drink. After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, "Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?" The bar immediately falls absolutely quiet. In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says, "Before you tell that joke, sir, I think it is just fair (given that you are blind) that you should know five things: 1. The bartender is a blonde girl. 2. The bouncer is a blonde girl. 3. I'm a 6 feet tall, 220 lb. blonde woman with a black belt in karate. 4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and is a professional weight lifter. 5. The lady to your right is a blonde and is a professional wrestler. Now think about it seriously, Mister. Do you still wanna tell that joke?" The blind man thinks for a second, shakes his head and declares, "Nah....Not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times."
  9. "Nope!" hehe, how does that one go "not if I have to explain it to all of you". OK here's one, A young blonde was on vacation and driving through the Everglades. She wanted to take home a pair of genuine alligator shoes in the worst way, but was very reluctant to pay the high prices the local vendors were asking. After becoming very frustrated with the "no haggle on prices" attitude of one of the shopkeepers, the blonde shouted, "Well then, maybe "I'l just go out and catch my own alligator, so I can get a pair of shoes for free!" The shopkeeper said with a sly, knowing smile, "Little lady, just go and give it a try!" The blonde headed out toward the swamps, determined to catch an alligator. Later in the day, as the shopkeeper is driving home, he pulls over to the side of the levee where he spots that same young woman standing waist deep in the murky bayou water, shotgun in hand. Just then, he spots a huge 9-foot gator swimming rapidly toward her. With lightning speed, she takes aim, kills the creature and hauls it onto the slimy bank of the swamp. Lying nearby were 7 more of the dead creatures, all lying on their backs. The shopkeeper stood on the bank, watching in silent amazement. The blonde struggled and flipped the gator onto its back. Rolling her eyes heaven-ward in frustration ,she shouts out....................... "SH* T............THIS ONE'S BAREFOOT TOO!"
  10. Thanks guys I needed that. I would have laughed at a good fart joke too though. "At the risk of being ridiculed, I don't get it." No names but are you blond?

  13. http://www.dogbitelaw.com/PAGES/statistics.html#Thedogsmostlikelytobite "Although pit bull mixes and Rottweillers are most likely to kill and seriously maim, fatal attacks since 1975 have been attributed to dogs from at least 30 breeds. The most horrifying example of the lack of breed predictibility is the October 2000 death of a 6-week-old baby, which was killed by her family's Pomeranian dog. The average weight of a Pomeranian is about 4 pounds, and they are not thought of as a dangerous breed. Note, however, that they were bred to be watchdogs! The baby's uncle left the infant and the dog on a bed while the uncle prepared her bottle in the kitchen. Upon his return, the dog was mauling the baby, who died shortly afterwards. ("Baby Girl Killed by Family Dog," Los Angeles Times, Monday, October 9, 2000, Home Edition, Metro Section, Page B-5.) In all fairness, therefore, it must be noted that: Any dog, treated harshly or trained to attack, may bite a person. Any dog can be turned into a dangerous dog. The owner most often is responsible -- not the breed, and not the dog. An irresponsible owner or dog handler might create a situation that places another person in danger by a dog, without the dog itself being dangerous, as in the case of the Pomeranian that killed the infant (see above). Any individual dog may be a good, loving pet, even though its breed is considered to be likely to bite. A responsible owner can win the love and respect of a dog, no matter its breed. One cannot look at an individual dog, recognize its breed, and then state whether or not it is going to attack."

I tell people that he has Bull Mastiff in him (with Labrador and Sharpei), and don't get a lot of trouble. He is well socialized with both people and other dogs, is neutered, but he seems to have a problem with cats. GOOD BOY! Chris ---------------- Thanks for the pic, he looks like a very sturdy fellow. We had to get our cat declawed because she was clawing his face so bad he was a bleeding mess and he was enjoying it so much he just kept coming back for more. Now the cat just bites him, to him that's great fun. He never bites her back but he has sent her flying when he starts spinning and he has also stepped on her a few times. Serves her right nasty *****. I tell people it's the cat you have to worry about not the dog.
  15. Read this before trying just any antispyware/malware apps. http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm I use Spywareblaster, StartupMonitor, xp-Antispy, SpySweeper, Microsoft Antispyware (Giant), Spybot Search and Destroy, AdAwareSE, Opera browser, Firefox browser, NIS, AVG as an on demand scanner, TrojanHunter, SpyCop, rootkitrevealer, a-squared as well as Evidence Terminator, CCleaner, MRU-Blaster and a few others on occasion including online scans. Oh, and common sense. I haven't had any problems with hijackers, popups, spyware, trojans, worms, viruses or the like in over 2 years now. If you haven't heard of any of the apps try googling and if you can't find them I'd be happy to give you a link.
  16. ben. wrote My dogs are as gentle as can be, and I still don't leave the room when my boy and the dogs are together. Let's face it, little kids can freak dogs out, and vice versa. It's about personal responsibility, not governmental intervention. I hear you. I have an 85 lb bull terrier, CKC champ. I don't consider him to be a pitbull. I think he's very handsome but I know that's debatable. He loves people and other animals, doesn't/won't bite and I've never heard him growl or ever seen him even show his teeth going on 7 years now. He's been through obedience classes and along with having been in show is very well socialized. He is never allowed to run free and has his own 6' high chain link kennel, never is he on a chain. He is very good natured and wants to play all the time. I would never leave him alone with a child, he's just too strong and would knock them down. I purchased him from a very reputable breeder and waited 4 years before they sold me one. As for pitbulls I think it is the popularity of these dogs that is their downfall. They are capable of being one of the best companion dogs ever bred, however; too many totally unknowledgable idiots are breeding them and selling them to idiots who don't have a clue how to train/look after this breed. mungkiman, that's a very handsome dog you have there.

  18. Thanks for the test DrWho Listening to the two tones with my KV3 (the only speaker I have hooked up on my computer at the present time) I would definitely say a drop is noticable on B, however I did keep listening to A as I thought I heard it being slightly louder by the time the tone finished playing ie. a very gradual increase from beginning to end. I think I've ruled that out though.

  22. OK Gil, let's get picky, especially if it will save someone from damaging their system. ---------------- On 1/3/2004 1:33:00 PM lynnm wrote: The following is from: http://www.audiovideo101.com/dictionary/dictionary.asp?dictionaryid=100 ...It is much more dangerous to clip loudspeakers by using a small amplifier lacking in power than to use a large amplifier even if that amplifier’s power ratings are greater than those recommended for a given speaker (distortion, and clipping in particular, causes damage not clean power from a quality amplifier)... lynnm, I think this is a very important note. I would explain it different though, you are more likely to clip a small wattage amplifier than a large wattage amplifier trying to put out high sound pressure levels. It is safer to drive a speaker over its suggested power handling capabilities with clean/undistorted watts from a larger amp than trying to drive it louder with a smaller amp that is distorted. Pushing any size amp into extreme clipping will inevitably result in blown speakers. John and Gil have started explaining the nasties that make up clipping distortion. Bottom line I guess is if it's not loud enough with your chosen amp and speakers then you had probably better look for bigger and more expensive equipment or keep the volume down enough to avoid burning/destroying/wrecking your sound system. Oops, blew another speaker. It does happen.

  24. 1st record this year for me was Ramona (Wayne Gilbert) The Gaylords featuring Ronnie Vincent, it's a Mercury 78 speed with identification #'s (ASCAP), YB 9437, 70112. I used it to check out my new (to me) Silvertone portable record player, chassis # C817-30332, Catalogue # 17514. It only has 3 Fleetwood tubes and has separate volume control for right and left speakers. Sounded great, LOL . It looks like this stereo was really well looked after, it still looks new. Anyone have any idea how old it may be?
  25. An amplifier can push a lot more power than it is rated for. The specs tell you what it will reproduce cleanly without distortion. There is also some usable headroom above that, eg. a 250 W amp can produce say 290W. Above that all you have is distortion when the waves are clipped. Distortion is heat. You can break a coathanger if you bend it enough times as it heats up. The coil in the speaker is wrapped with wire not much thicker than a hair, it doesn't take long to burn and break. Just an easy way to understand what's happening to the poor tweeter when an amp is overdriven to the point where it can no longer provide a clean signal.
