  1. Not all that much (relatively) if you've got cf-1's for mains. The ksw will add some boom but not much to the low end. Check out the sub-12 if you're keeping a tight budget. http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=930&s=specs
  2. What's funny is... If Paul would have read the rest of the string he posted himself about the TV-12's bottoming out, he would have read that the person admitted he didn't know how to calibrate his system and and found out he was running the sub 18dB hot with LOTR at reference level. And SVS overnighted him another free driver regardless of his neglect.
  3. The real purist doesn't listen to silly reproduced music. They settle only for live, unplugged 2-man bands with one instrument each who sit naked on either side of you with preselected voices for timbre match.
  4. Yup, it's probably the amp. You don't need a Klipsch dealer to test it, an electronics repair shop will do the same if you're warranty has expired.
  5. Paul sounds like he doesn't know a sub from a sub sandwich. All opinion and heresay with no fact. By the way his baited assumptions and theories go he sounds like he's probably quite young. "I heard Klipsch subs have tissue paper cones and cottage cheese baskets. Mine bottoms out even when it's turned off. Sounds like they have problems."
  6. I'm sure it doesn't sound "all that bad" without a sub, but electrostats are incapable of producing bass of any type that would complement such a power plant of a system. Can you imagine your HT with a subsonic filter set at 50 Hz? Anything lower than pronounced dialog would sound vacant. It would feel like driving around town in a Ferarri with your AM radio blasting away Polka's Greatest Hits. Sure, you spent $200,000 on your ride.....but I think I'll take my Vet.
  7. I was just browsing the net for some super high end audio systems and came across people who spend gobs of money on SQ and volume yet seem to give no regard to frequencies below 50Hz. One in particular (but not the most expensive) has an $85,000 amp driving only his 2 tweeters and uses nearly 4000 watts per channel for his mains. Electrostats seems to be very popular. This person has over $200,000 in equipment for his room (that is also his home theater) yet his investment in base is a VTF-3 Mk2 sub. No offense to HSU, but this guy probably spent more money on one square foot of his carpet than he did on his sub. It's like dining on caviar with a side of ramen noodles. I don't get it. Oh, and p.s. If he thinks he can hear $85,000 worth coming from his tweeters then I can taste $100,000 coming from my toaster.
  8. The same is going for some of the stores in my area. They reorganize into a more custom install boutique. It could be the Walmart syndrome, which I'm really not against. Capitalism is best I suppose. It's hard to compete with others who are able to deal in such high volume that they can buy for dirt and sell for mint. Oh well. I guess I'm just jealous it's not me. Regulation would also probably mean that my grocery bill quadruples.
  9. I also agree with that assumption. I have a feeling that around 50% more power would be ideal for my pluses. There's nothing wrong with the amp, it's just the weakest link in the system. With 2 plus drivers, a one-inch thick enclosure and good internal bracing, I think it could even handle double like you say. by the way, the difference between the plus and ultra below. That thing is a beast.
  10. Their cherry is slightly different than the Klipsch cherry. I posted the difference last year on these boards so you can do a search. There is no loss of extension between the Ultra and the Plus drivers; the difference being the plus will leave off at max spl where the Ultra will still have a few dB left above the plus. It's a much different sound than the RSW series. The SVS subs in general excel in extension. Looking for a sub to still kick you in the pants real good at 16hz? These are them.
  11. Second most overpriced??? By most people's standard what you'd pay for a midrange Klipsch 2-ch or ht is very modest, regardless of great SQ. Overpriced??? I guess by Walmart standards, perhaps.
  12. I likes them. Wouldn't buy them but likes them. If they sound great then more power to them.
  13. And for good reason. One of the purposes of a PR is to provide a measure of resistance. The cone of a driver is supposed to be as light and moveable (yet rigid) as possible for best response. The last thing you'd want your driver's cone to do is add its own resistance.
  14. There's an additional garage house with 4 bays for 7 total.
  15. Klipsch: read (klipsh) Some, even "in the know," I've heard pronounce (klips). How do you say it?
  16. I've been looking for a long time to get my hands on a pair of Kimhorns.
  17. It reduces the volume of the LFE, but not all bass functions your Sub is handling if your bass management is set to both (which it should be it you have your speaks set to small). Your sub volume control will manipulate all bass going to your sub, the LFE plus the material below your crossover point. Some movies (very few, but Event Horizon is one of them) have recorded the LFE too hot. Your LFE level gives you the opportunity to modify the output due to these circumstances. Keep it neutral at 0 for most all movies. Only needed if your sub's auto-on has trouble sensing the signal at low volumes. Otherwise it's useless. Any audible increase in SPL can be had just as easily by turning up the volume on your sub.
  18. Exactly true. The situation of the receiver is of no consequence. You are noble and will be rewarded regardless.
  19. If you do send an email to Ebay/PayPal reporting such you will receive a thank you. I've done it myself. Unfortunately there's only so much manpower one can hire. 190,000 confrimed cases with probably that many non-confirmed? That's over a thousand possible cases per day. Entire police forces of a large city with hundreds of officers couldn't handle a caseload like that. By the way, Ebay and PayPal have one of the most sophosticated fraud detection and prevention systems in the world. I know this for a fact.
  20. Actually, that's quite reassuring. That equals less than one percent of one percent of all transactions on Ebay.
  21. I agree with rplace. It's a pain ripping all of the CD's but it's worth it in the end. This all depends on how many CD's you have. If it'll take a year to back all of them up (a couple friends of mine have 1000+ CD's) then you may want to get to that later and enjoy them in their current mode. You can also pay someone to do this but that gets expensive. P.S. How do people have time to listen to 1000+ albums of music?
