  1. My mother died of Liver cancer 3 years ago. I feel your pain and you and your family will be in my prayers. My father passed away 2 weeks ago so I have been recently reminded of how much these things hurt. hoggy
  2. Thanks for all the info guys. Lots of things to think about. Almost overwhelming. dubai2000, It appears my C40 has two more outputs that are switched to run 2 more amps. Guess that means I can use a self powered sub with either of these. In fact the C40 has a built in 20 watt amp with power guard etc for monitoring. Now as to which SVS sub would you guys recommend if I was to go that route. artto, My listening room is my living room and I doubt very much if I could get the acoustic needed to go that way. It would be a nightmare to say the least but I may consider it. I do play my music very loud at times but mostly with 35 watt peaks. I don't want the minimum sub but would like not to have to buy the most expensive one either unless absolutely needed. I'm still going to have to think hard about this either way. I'm not rich but have income tax coming back. hoggy
  3. Thanks HornEd, Never knew how that worked but always wondered. Time to get ready for work. hoggy
  4. Q-man, Looking forward to your well informed reply when you have the time. What you said ("You won't even know that your subwoofer is on untill you turn it off and then hear what your missing once it is set up right.") Is exactly what I'm looking for. Thx, hoggy
  5. I have been considering a sub for my Khorns. I'd want to use it just to fill in the bottom end a bit. I get really good bass now but when it gets down to the 40hz and below it seems it needs to be 3+db louder. How does one go about hooking a sub up to 2 channel? I am not interested in this for HT as I don't care about being blown away (so to speak) while watching movies. I'm always told that bass is none directional but some of my LP's will have the bass to one side or the other (such as a bass guitar, just an example). How would 1 sub fill in there? Would 2 smaller subs (one in front of each Khorn running the perspective side (1 left 1 right) be better than 1? I'd hate to buy a 100-200 lbs sub only to find I'd have to pack it up and ship it back. As you can see from my signature I have only 2 channel gear. I do NOT want boom boom boom!!!! Thank for any info guys. It's much appriciated. hoggy
  6. I had a 5802 for a very short time. I did NOT care for it with the Belles I had at the time. My Tandberg and McIntosh sounded much better than the Adcom. I am not trying to discourage you though. I just didn't care for this particular amp much. Others who have owned Adcom feel differntly. If that's all you have and like the sound than keep it. If after listening for awhile and something in the sound is annoying you it may just be the amp. Also the Belles are quite differnt then the speakers you are using. hoggy
  7. Hey Dean, What differnce do you think the Auricaps made? BTW I like the ALK's with Auricaps sound better and better every day. I also switched back to the stock X,4 settings on the tap. Seems when you set the squawker down a bit it brings out the bass much better. hoggy
  8. I agree with j. Over the 28 years I've owned heritage. 1st Belles now Khorns I cannot even guess how many people that listened to them changed their tune about horn speakers. Most I think have it in their mind they would/should sound like they're in their high school gym. That is until they actually hear them in a home enviorment. hoggy
  9. Most forum members here offer what they have for sale to others here before actually putting up an item on EBay. However, it probably would not hurt if there was an easier way to actually know once an item got on ebay. What I usually do is see who the seller is. Some use their same names as here on this forum. The longer you're here the more you recognize them. Good suggestion anyway. hoggy
  10. Hell yes!! Go for it!! (excuse my use of profanity) hoggy
  11. Q-Man, Which sub do you use? Or is it one you designed? hoggy
  12. Dean, In all fairness the change I hear was worth it to me. The extra expense may not be for others. We all know everyone hears sounds differntly. I'm 54 years old and my hearing is in all probability not that great. I'd feel pretty bad if someone spent the extra money to find the differnce not worth it. Guess I feel the same as you do in that I'd worry they'd be disappointed. OTOH I'm quite happy. hoggy
  13. Wow a triple post. Sorry guys. My connections been acting up tonight. I keep losing it than it's back on. hoggy
  14. Well I played around a lot with the differnt tap setting today. Persoally I like the 5,2 setting the best. I'll keep you guys informed the best I can. Right now I cannot exactly pinpoint what I like better but I can say the ALK's do definately sound better now. Voices, and upper bass especially. Also the cymbals seem to "ching" (for lack of a better word) better.

  17. Hey royster, my Khorns are 3J512 and 3J513. Very close to your numbers. hoggy
  18. Well Dean you made a beliver out of me. To me the Auricaps and/or conditioning made all the differnce. Al's design is a great one and with the much more expensive Auricaps I'm estatic with the sound now where as before I was happy but not quite convinced. Others may not think it is worth the price differnce but to me hearing both there's no contest. I cannot say enough good about Al or Dean. They're both men of integrity and care about peoples music experiences. Both are willing to bend over backwards to make others happy. Thanks Al and Dean, hoggy PS I've only listened for 6 or 8 hours since changing the networks. Also my statements above are my own personal opinions. EDIT PPS Both Al and Dean do great work. They are both fine craftsman.
  19. My brother has HT. When I go to visit we'll watch a DVD movie with 7.1 and all I can say is for me allI seem to be able to hear is everything BUT the people speaking. I personally don't care for HT. hoggy
  20. Thanks for the replies folks. Sometimes I really like to crank them up. Other times I prefer very low volume. Guess that's why I use a 350 WPS McIntosh. I was over to a buddies the other day and was blown away by his old McIntosh speakers bass. They were no match for the mids and highs I get with my Khorns but the bass was almost undescribable. My Khorns are well sealed in good corners as per HDBRbuilders instructions includeing screwing 1" thick plywood under the Khorns to complete the bass bin and I thought the bass was very good and was happy until I heard my friends speakers. I listen to just about every kind of music so that's kind of a mute point. I mostly listen to vinyl (462) albums I bought way back when. 90% of them in excelent shape. Don't really have much room for a sub unless I place it in front of one or both of the Khorns. Purhaps two smaller subs would work better. They'd have to be self powered too I guess. I'd take pics but don't have a wide enough wide angle lens. The rooms fair size though. Khorns on long wall (approx-25ft) rooms about 18 ft deep. I'd be willing to spend $2000-$2500 if I had too. It's fairly scary to buy/spend that much money to find they don't do what i want them too. This is stickly for 2 channel listening. I don't watch much TV and have no plans to go the home theather route. I still have not made up my mind that I want to do this yet but knowing myself once I get something like this in my mind it will bug me until I do. Thanks, hoggy
  21. Never mind guys. Guess I should have done a search 1st. Although not a lot of info on them. hoggy
  22. Hi guys, I opened up my bass bins to rewire them tonight. Seems I have the K-33-P in them. I know the early Khorns used the K-33-J (Jensen) and later ones used the E. Never heard or knew of a P though. How does the P rate against the J and E? BTW they were signed inside by BOB N. HDBRbuilder do you remember or know him? My Khorns are 1971's. I know you worked there much later but maybe he was an old timer when you were there. Thanks guys, hoggy
