What do you like about it in particular?   Fully restored I assume?

Yes, fully restored.  I have two, and they are really good with just about any preamp, but also on their own with their adjustable gain pots.  The MC250 was Mac's early SS amp, and was voiced to have bit of a tube character, but with quality SS power behind it.  Very smooth character.

What confused me with the crossover was the 4 caps rather than 3. Then I realized the neon green zip ties and hot glue. Not exactly what I would have expected from Hope, Bob (RIP), or from JEM. My 75 LS AAs didn’t have big oil cans and were surely built in Hope with what they could get.

As for the cabinets they are fiberglass.  Which I really like. I’m considering some minor restoration such as painting the HF face and the tops since they show the most wear. I wanna keep the stenciled sides. Need a new stencil for the small Klipsch on the front. Also want to clean up the trim. I know it’s anodized, but its way worn and I’m not sure what route I’ll take. Probably just light sanding to make it more “even” on the faces.

All in all it’s how they sound and I’m pleased. Hard to say if they sound better than my 75 LS though. Different room, different amp, etc.

Highly doubtful those crossovers were built by Hope, Bob, or that other entity.  A few better close up photos would be good.

Raise the top hats about the height of a milk crate and you will have a much better appreciation of how good they can sound.

    Opinions. All opinions. Here’s mine.

Laser badge era=higher collectibility (opinion) (to some)

    Sequential serials?

Crites vs. JEM. If your pockets are deep enough you can have both and see which one you like best. Can you solder? I have used both with great results, but it comes down to what end you desire. Listen a while before you decide. You may just not care because you think they sound wonderful.

Are all the corners sharp? All labels intact? How’s the finish? Has anyone “varnished” them (hehe)? All of this is important. The price isn’t bad if all is good. Start counting scratches. How are the grills? Every nick, scratch, bump, chip, snag are deductions.

Reality is none of this matters if they sound like crap. Personally I would consider maybe $700 for a near mint pair, but I have 2 pair already.

Agree with most all of the above, except a little nit.

How are they going to "sound like crap", unless they are run off a phone or have some other physical/electrical defect, or in an airplane hangar.......  If so, well, that's a problem.

Cosmetics are about 75% of the game these days in vintage resale.  (sorry to you naysayers)......everything else is easily fixable.  Not cheap, but fixable.

    Hello,

I'm helping my mother sort out some things at her house and she has a pair of LA SCALA speakers in great condition she wants to sell - I have many fond memories as a child of my parents throwing parties in the 70s with these babies blaring Fleetwood Mac.

I found a link to the codes for Heritage and understand part of the coding refers to La Scala, Birch, and the year 1977.

Does anyone have any other info to share that I should know, and what would be a fair price to ask for these and best way to find a buyer? Is it normal for the guts of them to be exposed at the back?

We are in Australia so understood it depends on local demand.

Wish we could keep them but they just take up too much space..

Thanks for posting that you are in Australia.

Since these are fairly rare in Australia, they would command a somewhat higher price than in the US, particularly if the cosmetics are as good as they appear in the photo.  And yes, it is normal for the "guts" to be exposed at the back.
