  1. I just took the Khorns out of circulation Might go look at some of his other "stuff" lol
  2. yep and he's back again http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-Klipschorn-floorstanding-loudspeakers-Walnut_W0QQitemZ5460153672QQcategoryZ72829QQtcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem If I read it right, he has like 13 PAGES of things for sale...
  3. Well ... Went back to look at some of the other things and seems they've all been deleted. bummer... I was looking foward to giving the seller some hell.
  4. This listing is for Khorns http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5460094425&fromMakeTrack=true Hit "view sellers other items" & poke around... I think the seller smells to high noon based on what I have seen. I just sent message about local pickup & bringing my own amp...we'll see. [A]
  5. I don't personally think Kimo took Carson out intentionally. I obviously think it's terribly unfortunate that it happened. Carson's season ended last year when he again, got his knee plowed into. I think the reality of the game would have been HUGELY different had that misfortune not happened. Steelers might have still won of course, but I think the score, excitement, competition of the game would have been on a much higher level with Palmer in there instead of Kitna. I think most fans felt a terrible blow when that happened. It's particularly gut wrenching for life long Bengals fans to be the laughing stock of the league for 15 years and then after FINALLY winning the division and starting the process of garnering some respect, to have this happen to the #1 player on the team. The instant it happened I presumed the game was lost. Had Kitna somehow pulled out a win, there is zero doubt in my mind that the win was because of them trying harder "for Palmer"... and then the following week, they would have blown up. I don't mind per se' that the Bengals lost... I just wish it would have been their "A" team and not under the circumstances it was. After 15 years of futility, they spent the entire season earning the right to be in the game and the 2nd dang play...it all went up in smoke.
  6. Tried to get back yesterday & suffered the same funk that I guess others did on not being able to post. With that said, I don't necessarily care if it's store bought or something I (or someone else) make. I'm able to slap something together but others can do it and have it look a lot nicer than I can. I'd prefer to make it out of wood, say like 1x4 oak? I was thinking, instead of push buttons, a rotary knob...but now that I think about it, push buttons would make a LOT more sense. Perhaps even having them on TOP so the pressure goes down to the feet instead of pushing the unit backwards & off the stand. (don't ask how I know that [:$]) I LOVE the banana jack idea too... you are right on the Niles system... kinda stinks. If you (or anyone) has an ingredient list and location that would be needed to make one of these, I'd be open to hearing & trying my luck... or if you (or anyone) has ANY reason to make one of these things, I'd be happy to buy
  7. Way to go Meagain! It was Mike using one of those, that helped diagnose my standing wave issue. After fixing that single issue I probably noticed the most single dramatic increase in the quality of my sound over anything else! (I swear). <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Larry, you actually jumped to my yet to be disclosed Question part II. Perhaps someone can enlighten us. The Niles is simply a A/B switch and is not powered. It doesnt know/care if you turn anything on or off. Having a tube amp heading into a dead end switch box WAS something I was curious about. My goal is in part to be able to try to quickly go from amp A/B and perhaps C. Especially if I can get them all fairly balanced. As an aside, the wife gave me some dirty looks tonightshes in frustration mode with the 2 MC-30s, 2 SE-OTLs, dbx and MC-2102 I have laying around Fortunately, I married someone with a GREAT artistic eye and she can decorate things up very nicely. UN-fortunately, this same person does NOT think ANYTHING electronic nor unpainted wood is even remotely decorative and yes, this happens to include quite specifically, my Khorns.
  8. Well, perhaps I misunderstood something somewhere....[]. Thanks for clarifying. []
  9. I've got a Niles DSP A-1 which allows me to swap two amps onto a single pair of speakers at a push of a button. I was told that if I got a second DSP, I could switch three amps (somthing I'm contemplating). So, without buying another Niles box... is there some way I can make a single box that will allow me to switch between three amps? Would it be just as cost effective to buy a second Niles? Is it possible to also have said box allow to adjust signal levels?
  10. (For Khorns), my memory tells me that someone makes a crossover that works best with SET power. Once you get beyond a certain power, the sound starts to break up or something. Then, there is a different xover that sounds better wide open, moreso than down low (as I recall). Then, I think, we have Al's ES xover's. What I'm leading to is, if I understand the basic paramaters correctly... then how does the ES network compare? It's kind of a moot point for me now as I already have it...but now that I've had it a while I quite frankly, don't know if I never knew how it compared to the others. I just kind of did it to do it. ??
  11. Isn't this what SET owners call "Midrange Bloom"??? [:$]
  12. Having used an Academy in between two LaScalas, I'd suggest something different from that. As I recall, I had the center channel pumped ALL the way up to help compensate for the fact that the LaScalas simply drowned it out. That was my experience anyway...
  13. I've got a SE-OTL amp on ebay and had an inquiry if I'd ship to Japan, in spite of my listing which says US only. I've never done something like that and don't know if it would be a real hassle or not. I've thought about telling him simply "no", or, that I'd ship to Japan if he hits the BIN price ($900 vs my reserve of $750) Soooooooooo, anyone have any experience doing something like this? Is it worth the effort? Is it going to be fraught with annoyances? If it's as simple as me heading to the post office & handing them the box, then frankly, I don't mind doing it. I just hate to say "ok" and find I have a Pandoras box full of export paperwork, customs forms, Japanese import forms blah blah blah...My goal is to keep MY half of the transaction simple & easy. Any thoughts are appreciated.
  14. Now, just why does that strike me as a subtle change of subject? [8-)][*-)]
  15. I don't know if this is legit or not, but I was once told that you really want to fix a cat BEFORE she goes into heat because it will help minimize (or perhaps eliminate?) her wanting to spray & mark everything with her scent. Again, I don't know if that's for real but it IS what I was once told. (coming from someone who also talks to his cats and dogs and if need be...wife) []
  16. I need to know if these are straight up chocolate kisses, chocolate/white chocolate, any almonds involved? Clearly this is an incomplete polling question and needs to be looked into further.
  17. I think it's an individual issue but I'll tell a story that happened to the extreme. A lifetime ago before I was in the Investment world, I worked a second part time job. They had a very liberal return policy and TRIED to bend over if they could, to make a customer happy. Enter one day, a gentleman of foreign nationality. He wrestled into the store one of those large dollhouses that he'd gotten for his daughter. "I'd like to return this please" he said "Ok, and do you have your receipt please" said the clerk. "no, I do not" "Is there anything WRONG with it" asked the clerk "nothing is wrong with it, I just need to return it" said the man of foreign origin "We don't stock that anymore... how long have you had it" asked the clerk who was only allowed to return CURRENT merchandise "I bought it over a year ago" said the man of foreign origin (enter store manager now to take over) "Hmmm...well sir, let me see if I understand this ..." "You wish to return this dollhouse, you do not have a receipt, you say nothing is wrong with it and you admit you bought it over a year ago... is this correct?" said the manager "Yes, this is correct" said the man of foreign origin. "Well, sir, can I ask just WHY you are wanting to return this if nothing is wrong with it" asked the manager who is becoming kind of put out with the man of foreign origin. "I need to return it because my daughter no longer derives any satisfaction with it" said the man of foreign origin. The manager promptly told the man of foreign origin that he could NOT return it, that the store was not a rental store.
  18. I've got a bunch of dvd concerts that I'd love to rip JUST the music track and save it to my pc so I can listen to it like the other copied music I have on my disk (all purchased by me, this is just for ease). Anything out there that will allow, preferably with ONE click, to copy the music track to pc hard drive? If it's out there, will it also seperate the songs or will it be one long, huge file with all the different songs jumbled into a single file? ??
  19. So, as far as the input control, you essentially "eyeball" it by using your ears? You don't use any kind of spl meter?
  20. Just received my MC-30's and am stuck with the best method to balance everything out. Meaning, where to set their input levels and feedback, relative to my Peach. I've got Line levels on my Peach, I've got line levels on the MC's, AND I've got those feedback knobs on the MC's. If it helps to know, I also have an eq with pink noise generator & RTA at my disposal Is there a traditional method to setting the line levels on the MC's or do I just crank them up? Also, the MC's have a feedback knob, is there some way for me to know where to set this? I fiddled with it on full off and full on just to see if I could discern it's effects. I did it the other day so I don't recall what I found, only that I DID notice a slight difference. My memory says I ended up leaving them (feedback knobs) at about 1/4 turn up from "off". Is there an interaction between the feedback knob and the input knob that reside on the MC's? In other words, if I have the input knob set higher (or lower), might I need to consider readjusting the feedback knob? All this is made a bit easier with the 2102 that also arrived... it doesn't have independent input knobs so I adjust everything from the Peach. Speaking of having both... since I have a Niles switchbox, I'd REALLY want the levels of the two amps set, such that if I'm on A or B on the Niles, my output will remain as close as I can make it. Nowwwwwwwwwwwwwww what kind of fly have I just added to the ointment? To take a stab of answering my own question (to show you I'm trying to think this through), Here is what I think might work... Select 2102 amp & get a SPL reading Select a single MC-30 and try to match the SPL reading (still confused on what to do with the feedback though) After I get one 30 dialed in, try to dial the other one in. This is another point of confusion... if I'm using 100db, do I try to match 100 db or do I need to adjust any reading because of using 2 speakers? (like adding or subtracting 3 db for example) Would it be more accurate to measure a single speaker (amp) at a time?
  21. oops, I see you've already bid on it. [:$]
  22. Hi Charles, saw you bid on one a while back and there's another http://cgi.ebay.com/DBX-5BX-DS-Excellent-Condition-With-Remote-Processor_W0QQitemZ7376252172QQcategoryZ23790QQtcZphotoQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I'm not related to the seller, just thought I'd tap you on the shoulder in case you're still looking. Richard
  23. Did it "FIX" the room problem? hmm..I'd rather say it only helped minimize the problem. I'm sure if the room was analyzed closer, I'd still have some issues. My understanding is the behringer unit is only around $300? (maybe someone who has one can chime in). Fortunately for me, I already had an equalizer in my closet so I simply pulled it out and by stroke of luck, it had a slider right at 90HZ. As far as snugging to corners, I think the primary issue there IS in fact the bass, however, my readings have led me to belive that the horns (upper & mid) also being in the corner will benefit to a degree. The reality is, by having the bass unit snugged in corner, the rest of it will also be snugged so it's kind of a moot point. (and I might certainly have that understanding wrong)
  24. Meagain.. To draw an analogy, If the speed limit is 25, then are you speeding if you go 25 ½ mph? How about 26? I think if youre going 90 then its fairly safe to say you are speeding. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Where am I going with that analogy? Incremental gains. I obtained my Khorns from a forum member (and drove to Chicago from Knoxville to get them). That said, the first thing I did was get a tube ampI just picked one and jumped. I then upgraded my crossovers (or networks) to Als ES or Extreme Slope networks. A while later, another forum member came over so we could mix & compare some amps. He happened to bring a Behringer (sp?) RTA (Real Time Analyzer). To make a long story short, using the RTA, we found my room had a standing wave right smack dab at 90 HZ. Meaning there was an excess or pile up of that frequency and the ones next to it. We toned that specific frequency down and Ive NEVER had a more significant singular noticeable tweak than that. I found out that my bass was a bit muddy. The muddy bass cleared up and now the regular bass AND the lower bass sound much more natural. You can do an A/B with the tape loop and its a pretty blatant difference. I noticed a larger increase in the quality of my sound after tweaking the response curve at 90HZ, than I did going to a tube amp, going to Als ES networks and going to tube preamp. Did the other changes MAKE a change? Yes. What Im saying though is for ME, they were more like speeding at 25 ½ mph, where as finding and fixing the standing 90HZ problem I had was more like going 90mph in a 25. It was a CLEARLY and most dramatically noticeable change. Id almost bet a nickel that if you were able to do the same, (if you had similar issues), youd like that change more so than almost any other. I guess what Im saying is, Im glad I had that done for me sooner, rather than later as I would have otherwise been searching for this ghost in my equipment when in fact, it was my living room that was the ghost. Now that the ghost is tamed, I can look at other changes and do a bit more fine tuning.
  25. Geez... you guys are making me blush. Clearly you must have already received your payoff's for your comments. [:$]
