The cuts for the half lap joints are done with a tenoning jig.

Here's the grill frame pieces cut to length out of padauk.

Heres the layout for the grill frames. It's made from 8 pieces with half lap joints for strength. After glued up the grill frames are cut into a 1'' wide ring routered out on the bake to accept grill cloth.

Here's a panel glued up in clamps.

I just finished a project today for a fellow up in NJ. He is a collector of single and duplex drivers that he likes to listen to mounted on an open baffle. He wanted baffles made from solid walnut that he could mount 15'', 10'' and 8'' drivers to. Also he wanted a nice grill to dress up the front of the baffle. I decided to make the grill frames from padauk to make a nice contrast to the walnut panels. Following are some pictures of the construction process. This first one shows the walnut arranged for glue up.

I built a pair of these for a friend of mine. He loves them. I had them hooked up at my house for a while and was amazed at the quality sound you can get out of these little 6'' Fostex drivers. I'm used to listening to my hybrid khorns with Altec horns and drivers. Can the single drivers compete with the big horns? No, but in a small room on a limited budget the single drivers might be an option especially if you like jazz and acoustic music. Depending on the recording, the imaging can be great.

Whoever built that box is not much of a woodworker. Look at that nasty knot on the front of it.

The local paper here ran an artical on Mr Wexler Saturday on his passing. Included was a picture of him next to his McIntosh amp, preamp and tuner. It's a pretty cool shot. I was wondering if any of you guys saw it.
