  2. That's what you get for running cheap equipment! just kidding! Are the power plugs on the amps polarized? Meaning, is one prong wider than the other? If not, have you tried flipping one or both of them in the outlet? I know this can sometimes help with hum coming through the speakers, but maybe it might help in your situation as well. Also, do they still "pop" if you shut one of them off before anything else in the system? As a general rule, it is always best to shut down your amps before the rest of the system, to reduce the chance of getting those pops through the speakers. One more thing, have you tried turning both amps off at the same exact time? Hopefully, maybe one of these little tricks might solve you problem. Good luck!
  3. This is how most all DD/DTS recievers do it..... MAINS=SMALL: main channels are cut off at x-over point, bass from main channels are directed to sub, sub is on. MAINS=LARGE: main channels play all freqs, sub is off. LFE+MAINS=SMALL: main channels are cut off at x-over point, bass from main channels are directed to sub, sub is on. LFE+MAINS=LARGE: main channels play all freqs, sub is on. And let's not forget..... CENTER=SMALL: center is cut off at x-over point, bass from center channel is directed to sub. (if no sub is present, bass is directed to main channels) CENTER=LARGE: center plays all freqs. SURROUNDS=SMALL: surrounds are cut off at x-over point, bass from surround channels are directed to sub. (if no sub is present, bass is directed to main channels) SURROUNDS=LARGE: surrounds play all freqs.
  4. I think ^^^ you know who has been sucking on WAY too many lead pipes lately!!! LOL OH!
  5. I'm sorry, but there's just absolutely no way in you know where I would let my g/f OR wife tell me what I could or could not do with my passion (stereo). It would be a cold day in "H" when I would sell a pair of speakers or down-size my system just so my "better half" can decorate a room.
  6. DrWho.... If adding more woofers in a given room does not increase the overall SPL because of "compression" in that room, then why with car audio, if you want to go louder, you add more drivers and power? A vehicle is always going to be smaller than any room in a building, and the more drivers and amps they add, the louder it gets. Bag End, and Velodyne make 18" subs. Unfortunately, those are the only two I can think of. Definitive Technologies has a pair of BP3000TL towers with built-in 18" subs.
  7. Well I like what I'm getting from my Kimber 8TC cables. It's pure copper wire, just like my Magwire (actual magnet wire) Naked interconnects, and the 16 gauge Monstercables going to my subs, centers, and surrounds.

  9. Nope, nope, nope. Like I said before, it is a raw driver. I built an enclosure for it and used an electronic crossover. And no, it's not the amp or crossover because they are still being used today.

  11. Hey m00n, I'm using an older Aragon 2004Mk II on my KG 5.5s with great results. I wouldn't say the amp is warm or bright, just neutral. It matches up very well with my KG's, and it's only 100 watts p/c but gets plenty loud enough, even for movie playback. I like my music and movies loud and this amp/speaker combo does it right without making your ears bleed. I read another thread on here a couple days ago where one of the members owns both the RF-7's and the KG 5.5's. To him, he says both these speakers sound very much alike. If this is the case, and my Aragon works for me in my system, then it should work fine for you as well.
  12. I think a lot of it has to do with the mood you're in at the time of listening. When your mood changes, so does the way you listen to your system. I usually don't adjust my levels that much, but I'm constantly tweaking the Yamaha EQ settings for the center channel. Now since I'm running the KG 5.5s, the center channel AR S20's just don't match up well. They're too dull and hollow sounding now. Hopefully, I'll be able to find some KG 5.5 drivers and crossover so I can build myself a matching center channel.
  13. That guy put this on the bottom of that auction just to let people know about these.... "Hello I have had several emails about these speakers. I would just like to let everyone know, that we are pretty sure these cabinets have been modified, and could possibly be homemade. They do not have a label or serial numbers on the back. Everything else included in this auction are Klipsch, we are just not sure about the cabinets. The cabinets dimesions are 29" x 20" x 18" ... We will sell without the cabinets if you do not wish to have them. I have also been informed from another ebayer that these are early Klipsch Heresey Speakers. I also recieved this email from a fellow ebayer about these speakers: "I commend you! This is the best try I've seen yet, to sell a pair of home-made Klipsch speakers! Not bad looking, either. But to sell real Klipsch's, you need to show the real serial #'s on the CABINETS, not model #'s of the drivers. If you really want to make a little cash, you should sell the drivers without the fake Klipsch boxes. No mistaking they are real. But PLEASE DON'T try to sell those Radio Shack cross-overs as Klipsch networks!!! Kinda insulting to the Klipsch shoppers! It's very easy to see that you clipped the right side off the metal label that goes on REAL Klipsch cross-over networks" I would like to say that the crossover is NOT from radio shack, but are in fact original. I bought them 10 years ago from a friends father who had bought these brand new way back when."

    Sub in floor?

Or you can do something like this, but suspended from the floor like you want.... http://www.geocities.com/pnwright3/Gemini_subs.html Those little BA 10" subs won't have enough output to keep up with Klipsch speakers.
  15. The way you guys are wording it, it sounds like you think using the reciever in LFE + Main means that your main channels are recieving LFE information. What this really means is that you are allowing your main channels to recieve full frequencies from 20Hz to 20KHz, and activating the LFE channel of the reciever, sending a signal to your sub. If you chose LFE ONLY, then a high-pass crossover is engauged, cutting your main channels off at the crossover point (80, 90, 100, or 120Hz usually). Funny thing is, I have actually been playing around with this today on my Yamaha. After doing some A/B listening, I prefer LFE + Main because when the reciever cuts the bass to my KG 5.5s, the midrange gets thin and lifeless sounding. Like others said above, just play with it some and see what you like best.
  16. Maybe Andy or PWK was hitting the sauce when they built that pair.
  17. Have you considered playing around with different ICs and speaker cables? That would be cheaper and easier. Maybe try some 8TC on your mains instead of the 4TC.
  18. You already have the RF-7s. I have the KG 5.5s. I read somewhere on another thread that someone owns both, and that the sound between the RF-7s and KG 5.5s are very very close to eachother. If that's the case, keep the RF-7s. I'm sitting here listening to Norah Jones' new CD, and it sounds like she's standing right here in front of me. Seriously, I haven't heard anything this convincing in a long time, or in my listening room for that matter! It's taken me 20 minutes to get this far in my post because I keep stopping and closing my eyes to listen to her voice and the music. I'm still running these fullrange, not using my subs, and everything is just falling right in place as it should. Anyway, to get back to the topic, keep your Klipsch!!! You'll be very hard pressed to find anything to beat these for the money! Holly crap-balls!!!! I gotta go, Dolly Parton just showed up!!!
  19. I was 20, she was 40 but looked 30!! Got a pair of Infinity 6 Kappa R's for $200, sold them a few months later on eBay for over $400. Got a HeadRoom Cosmic for $200 on eBay, resold on eBay a few months later for $370. Got a apir of Sennheiser HD600 on AudioGon for $130, a couple months later, resold on eBay for $360. Got 7 pairs of Magwire Naked ICs new on AudioGon for around $120 total. Got an Aragon 2004Mk II off of eBay for $450 shipped. Just bought a pair of mint KG 5.5s this past Sunday for $250.
  20. The first thing you have to do is get rid of that crappy Norton junk. All that program is, is a memory and CPU hog. It also wants to take over control of your whole machine. It absolutely sucks, is highly over-rated, slows down your whole machine, and you could not pay me to even install it on any of my computers! I use Avast! on all my machines and even the ones at work! It updates the virus list once a day, updates the actual software every one to two weeks, and is totally free. (the Home Edition only). It keeps an eye on your in-coming and out-going email, you web browser wether it be IE, Netscape, Opera, etc, and the various instant messenger services. Also, you can have it scan your whole system any time you want, manually or automatically. The best part about it, other than the fact it's FREE, it has also been said in several PC mags that it is better than either Norton or Mcefee!! Oh yeah, it requires very low memory usage and CPU cycles. You can't beat that!! You can find it at.... www.downloads.com The next thing I would do is disable that Roxio software from starting up on boot. It is not needed. Same goes for the WC program. The AtomTime I don't see a need for either, but I don't see it as the problem either. I can almost guarantee that if you ditch that stupid Norton software, you will gain back most of your memory and your computer will run much faster. Just make sure that if you do uninstall it, make sure you get all the little bits and peices of junk it scatters in your system. You'll find a bunch of shared files and folders, upload utilites, shortcuts, notification programs and other junk all over the place! Like I said before, Norton trys to take over your computer. I hope this helps some.
  21. I didn't know there was such a thing as "country fans"?!?! Anyway, on a more serious note.... Why did he give you something with Carly Simon? As far as I know, she's never done any country music. Her sister might have, but until I just read this thread, I never knew Carly even had a sister to begin with! LOL

Actually, the cone, dust cap, and cloth surround are all in perfect shape. In fact, the voice coil doesn't even scrape the pole piece. The driver still works, it just doesn't produce any bass anymore. It sounds like a huge midrange driver. It's weird!
  23. Klipschorn maximum peak output? LOUD! LOL
