  1. Said the man who builds superstructuters, underwater. I suspect you can also build a ship in a bottle. Luther did a top to bottom restore on two Teacs I believe. He could probably tell you pretty quick just what level of skill it would require. I think he woukd also reccomend going ahead and ordering new pinch rollers and have them on hand and ready to go. I would say as long as you don't need to loosen anything that could effect the physical head alignment then go for it. If it requires loosening or removing the head assembly I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pool. Can you post some high quality close ups of what you are talking about?
  2. If you want some ideas on where to go on Roatan and Cozumel let me know, I could show you some nice places to go in pics, and how to get there easily. We usually just go to places where there are tables and waiters who bring you whatever you want to eat or drink, right on the edge of the water where you can snorkel on the reef without huge crowds. Have fun I do believes I kin hangs which u fo' awile.
  3. First of all, congratulations on 18 years of marriage. Sorry to hear about the camera, it sounds like the housing design might have a design defect with regard to the latch which they have to fix regardless of warranty, but you are way ahead with the resolution you worked out. Not that it is too much consolation, but yiu are far from the only one in that boat. I did a quick check and googled gopro warranty water damage. How long did it take to make that video? Utterly amazing. TWO THUMBS UP AND A FIVE STAR VOTE.
  4. You got that right, 10K.http://www.broadcaststore.com/store/model_detail.cfm?id=812624In my opinion you would be much better off with a refurbished Ampex or Studer, at half the cost. Better FR, W&F and S/N. But that is in the 2-track realm. Forn4 track consumer/prosumer, there are many, many great decks out there. Travis i work in what used to be the Ampex facility starting in the 60's, now a machine shop. haven't found any rtr's laying around though. there are still quite a few pieces of manufacturing equipment in our shop that date back to the ampex days. in the basement are offices sitting as they were left in the 80's, i wouldn't be surprised if there was something yet to be discovered down there.Alabama, Chicago, Redwood City, Culver City? Which one. My Dad worked for Ampex, thus we live in Northern CA, and SoCal. If you can tell me what city and narrow it down to a building I can tell you what they did there. Opilieka, Alabama was Orr Industries who made Irish audio tape, the preferred tape of Mr. Klipsch, until it was bought by Ampex and made the Tape Division. The other locations did multiple things but each had specialities.Would be interested to know which plant/building you are in. Travis none of the above. Colorado Springs on Wooten Rd, i believe Ampex's first co springs location.Ah ha, I didn't even know that one. He say that was the Instrumentation Division. Recorders for telemetry, aerospace and medicine. The recorders were designed and built to record at a relatively wide frequency range and at very high frequencies necessary to provide accurate data. Their basic models for military and aerospace applications with the appropriate tape were flat from 50 hz to 100khz at 15 IPS. They made portable models that could go in rockets, as well as larger groud based units that recorded demodulated fm signal information.Essentially they made an almost bullit proof unit, impervious to shock and vibration, capable of accurately recording the widest available frequency ranges within military/aerospace/NASA tolerences. So what was in Colorad Springs at the time that was involved in aerospace, missels and their telemetry and space itself? Pretty much a majority of the the entire operational and develomment component of those areas were handled at bases in and around CS. As I recall, that is still true today. I will see what else he can remember about it there that isnt still classified. That is cool stuff.
  5. Have a great BDay. Bet you are nit missing Laredo right now. T
  6. Unfortunately it is frequently lonely elderly people who get caught up in these scams. It happens all the time. They fall for the one about being a secret shopper and the craigslist international money order scam. These are both old scams that can now be done anonymously instead if face to face. I actually was really approached by guys in a white van selling speakers about 30 years ago. Travis
  7. "If we do nothing, then nothing will change. Email is a lot easier (and cheaper) than snail mail was. Web sites that sell downloadable music that also have comments and ratings should be used including (but not limited to) Amazon, etc." GaryRC made the very astute comment that the record companies mix/master for the masses, and I obviously agree with that. I looked up Chris's example of the LP with a bad track on Amazon and the lp (they obviously don't rate by track) was rated 5 out of 5 stars. I don't think the general public will ever get it, they are happy with Beats and MP4. Forums like Steve Hoffman's site have a lot of folks who give some excellent thoughts about which version of what particular recording. "I remember when I was young, that when I saw a new phonograph record with either "Capitol" or "Atlantic" on the cover that there was a high probability that the music on that record was somehow hosed up. Basic statistics proved my gut feel to be correct." What do you attribute that to? The stampers, the raw vinyl, pressing equipment, the technology if the times? I don't think it is the recording equipment, well I know it isn't. It isn't the studio design, Capitol was state of the art, so was Atlantic. I have toured the Capitol Studio A and B and have read about Atlantic. I guess it could vary based on the recording engineer, but Atlantic had a guy named Tom Dowd who was at the forefront of multitrack recording, which was in turn based on the work that Capital had pioneered. The early stereo mixes by Capitol were terrible, not to mention the fake stereo, Duophonic, but the mono versions are all fine. Would be interesting to see if there is any commonality in the bad recordings. Travis
  8. His point seems to be SS vs. Tubes "We will also be investigating such things as what happens when you replace the solid-state electronics of an excellent recorder like the Revox A-77 with tube electronics patterned after the Audio Research SP3A-1, why it is that some of the most sought-after custom recording studios in the country are using tube-type electronics, and why manufacturers of professional tape recorders consider a frequency response of ±2dB to be "adequately smooth" when most of us can readily hear a broadband deviation of less than ±0.5 dB." It is going to be interesting to see what he says about these subjects. His facts are wrong about the specs, and he doesn't seem to understand the recording process, at least the analog chain part of it, but always glad to see people write up about reel to reel. Travis
  9. I think that mainly derives from his live shows. I saw him live at the LA forum, incredible live show, but he never really resonated with me for listening. I think the "album" to have is his Live '75-'85 vinyl 5 LP set. I can listen to those from time to time. He has amother LP that is him sitting in a room with a guitar and a microphone that is well worth picking up. Travis
Ponownie Witamy! Travis

Travis Here is the advertisement where Mr. Klipsch did a co-op head with Orr Industries/Irish tape which I have posted in other threads. Orr Industries sold 26% of the company to Ampex in the late 50s and then eventually all of the company by the early 60s which became known as the Ampex Tape Division. Travis
  12. Great, I will post a thread. Both your decks are 2 Track record correct?Yes they are both record/playback, I just use external tape pre's/tubes for playback. But neither of yours are 4 track record record correct? You can Repro 2 track on both, and play back 2 or 4 on the 5050? No 4 track repro for you correct?Luther and I can do 15 IPS 2 track repro in NAB or IEC, as I recall you prefer IEC is that right? Travis
  13. What is his email address? Or get him to join here, we help him avoid all of the mistakes we made. ! When, NOT if, he takes you up on the offer, get glass tops for them on they will covered in water marks.
  14. Great, I will post a thread. Both your decks are 2 Track record correct?

  16. ATTENTION: BLUESBOY, TARHEEL, WARDSWEB, CANYONMAN Check iut this thread from almost ten (10) years ago. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/74029-attn-reel-to-reel-owners-music-exchange/ This is one if the reasins I live this place so much, people dig audio for audio. Bluesboy, did you move out West?
  17. Been awhile since we did that tape swap, but itnsure was fun. I would be up for that. Travis
  18. She obviously does not have a comal.
  19. The proper word for a female dog comes out *****? Really? Is that even a swear word? I wonder, is the jaw bone of an *** censored? Do we really need to resort to the guttural use of biatch? Or being creative by using B.I.T.C.H.?
  20. There is a choice kind of in between, play like you give a crap and ignore Holy crap, no way I am getting kn a cruise with you two. It will be about 50 miles out of port she sees through that and Dtel is no where to be seen. "Hey where is Dtel?" "I don't kmow, last I saw him he was with you. Maybe he is playing shuffleboard, or bridge in the game room." I agree with the strategy, but NEVER putnit in writing. Yep, after you buy her a house and a car. Have children together? You don't even need to send the checks, they will auto deduct. Have a state license? law, medical, engineering, contractor, etc., miss a payment your license is suspended. Dead beat father? Your butt is in jail for up to 180 days unless your family comes up with cash to bond you out. Easy to say for a short term relationship, less than a couple of years, but I have NEVER heard someone say that who has been married more than 10 years or have children together that wasnt paying for it one way or the other. The ones that usually say "I left that *****" are living with a friend, or in an trailer/apartment while she is in the house rasing the children. The ones that say, "we grew apart" but we are decent to one another and decided to put our children first typically move on quicker to normal, healthy, and happy lives, and then they leave that *****. Not really. Travis

  22. I didn't see an attachment/photo unless it is just my tablet. There are no lowly decks, if it works and you are using it, it's a great deck. Travis
