  1. Anyone who thinks NPR is "lefty" needs to listen to more Lou Donaldson . . . By the way, we are on pins and needles out here in L.A. where the local jazz station KJZZ appears to be heading toward a format change, which would be flat-out TRAGIC. It's one of only a handful of honest-to-God jazz stations left in the entire country.
  2. I'm no big fan of Rock and Roll--haven't really listened to Rock since the late 1970's with any interest at all, but I gotta tell you that Chuck Berry is the man who invented the language with which most of these guys leanerd to "speak," rolling R&B and blues piano chords played loud on the electric guitar. Chuck Berry certainly has to be on ANY list of important rock guitar players--right near the very top.
  3. Why would anyone buy a megabuck table and start looking for an arm that will work with a $100 cartridge. I don't get it. If you love the sound of the Denon, then you really need an SME 3012 or an FR66 or an Ikeda 407, but any of these are going to set you back way more than $1000 on the used market. Plus, I doubt any of them will be an easy fit on the TNT. You should wait and get the VPI arm, get an appropriate cartidge and then have a ball!
  4. 1. Remove the back of the speaker. 2. Remove the crossover and all of the drivers. 3. Remove all of the screws holding the motorboard in place. 4. Remove the motorboard. 5. Remove the NINE BILLION little staples holding the grill cloth in place. Figure the better part of a day to replace the grill cloth on both speakers.
  5. Unfortunately, it has become apparent to me that ebay prices do IN FACT establish value--this has become PAINFULLY true (for buyers) in the collectible jazz LP market and I'm afraid the same can be said for vintage hi-fi. That said, scouring the local papers and Craigslist can yeild some great bargains.
  6. If the difference between 7 grand and 3 grand doesn't matter to you very much, then BY ALL MEANS buy a NEW pair. I can't think of many things more exciting that have a pair of BRAND NEW Klispchorns that were built especialy for YOU being deilvered to your home! Head out to all the local Klipsch dealers and cut the best deal you can on some brand new Klipschorns--you will NOT regret it!!
  7. The only one I remember was from some duo called "Tuck and Patti." Wost sh!t you've ever heard, pal . . . . .
  8. I've heard these in person. Unfortunately I didn't understand any of the music they were playing that day and I didn't know the guys well enough to bring along my own music. He was running some kind of flea powered amp that drove these things to ASTOUNDING levels. Very clean, very dynamic. And VERY VERY UGLY! These things make Jubilees look like furniture!!
  9. I jsut read the ad copy for the first time--the MC275 is the 1990's reissue.
  10. Well, kids. SInce his new VPI doesn't have a tonearm I doubt Joe has had the opportunity to compare one with the other!!!

  12. Three Stereo power amps from the 1960's.
  13. I have owned all three at the same time. I no longer own any of them.
  14. Here's a guy who built a set of the single driver Pros: http://www.hilberink.nl/codehans/tannoy45.htm
  15. The horn baffles are particle board, the box is plywood. This is a VERY complex horn! And I was wrong about the prices--these sold for $1300 ea in 1964, which was STILL a pile of money!! Here are the plans for the SINGLE driver "standard" autograph:
  16. The odds that TWO distinct pairs would show up on ebay in a matter of a few months were pretty long anyway. One of the guys over at the Tannoy Group is pretty sure less than 20 pairs of these were actually sold. They were CRAZY expensive back in the 60's--something like $4000/pair THEN.
  17. I guess I missed that pair! I did see a pair of single driver Autographs sell for about ten grand a few months ago. I have a pair of Monitor Golds that are being WASTED in a pair of little sealed boxes. One day I will build some nice horn cabinets for them. But not today!
  18. The most "valuable" sealed record I ever opened (thereby halving it's value) was a mono 6-eye "Kind of Blue." I still have it--I've probably played it a couple of hundred times since that day (about 15 years ago) and it still sounds fantastic.

  20. Ah, the simple pleasures! The company of good friends and LIVE music. We get caught up around here talking about hifi reproduction (this is, after all the Klipsch Forum), but no record I have ever owned played on the best system in the world (whatever THAT is) can compare with listening to master musicians performing for you in an intimate setting. That's why I head out and listen to live music at least once a week and I reccomend that ALL of you do so as often as you can!
  21. I'll second the Lenco, but wouldn't THIS be a fun project? http://cgi.ebay.com/16-Rek-O-Cut-transcription-turntable-1947_W0QQitemZ170070662365QQihZ007QQcategoryZ48649QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  22. Wow! Never seen a pair on ebay before. Horn loaded with TWO 15" Tannoy Reds. I sure would like to hear THESE!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/TANNOY-GRF-AUTOGRAPH-PROFESSIONAL-4-15-REDS-CABINETS_W0QQitemZ260077247054QQihZ016QQcategoryZ14993QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  23. No way would PWK be that wasteful. You bet. I am sure those blemished pairs were painted black!!
