  1. Get one high end sub. Getting two cheaper subs will deny you the engineering and auto room set up abilities of the best subs. The new RT12d or the top of the line Velos would be appropriate. Or if you want a fist slammed in your face of low frequency sound, the guys with the Klipsch THX setup say it is awesome. All should be in your price range. Good Luck!
  2. Well, first off, I recommend against the 20 posts you will get about buying used gear. I like nice new stuff even if it is cheap. Now this is UNLESS a Klipschophile from our Klipsch community offers up thier own equipment. Some of these guys give awesome deals to newbies. My recommendation is to go to Best Buy and buy an inexpensive reciever that has the features you want. Then a Synergy surround setup with the SUB-12 subwoofer. You need to get kenratboy on this website to get you approximate costs as he works at Best Buy. In fact he can work up a whole package for you. Plug it all in and turn up the volume. You will be impressed! Good luck!
  3. I think we are all agreeing on this issue. Some pieces of equipment you can hear a difference, others you can't. The speaker wires and power cords being the snake oil products. Also, I always like to put in a disclaimer that you must use at least a decent interconnect. My example is this. I was using for fun and test a Radio Shack subwoofer cable with the wire being about 26 gauge at best. The sub was in serious trouble and would not work correctly at all. So I then switched to a Monster cable (cheap one) subwoofer cable and instantly, the sub worked correctly. The Monster was probably 18 gauge? (hard to remember). But once you get a good connection and signal to the input on the sub, there is no "magic" by aligning the electrons to match the photoelectons of the light coming in through the window, with the molecules in the insulation of the cable, then freezing the copper, silver plating it, adding a small capacitor, twisting the wire into a pentagon shape and isolating it from shock with an inert nitrile rubber sheath with a hot flashy color (red). [] Anyway, spend your money on speakers, and gear, but use decent normal interconnects and speaker wires. 99% of the time you will be ok. Doc Who is finding out this stuff is not rocket science. It's fun science!
  4. Anyoone who says blind testing is BS has no clue what they are talking about. It sperates fact from fiction very quickly. The problem is that most people have not been involved with blind testing, yet they get on a website and talk about it. Oh well... thats the internet! The testing has shown that power cords and speaker wires are pretty much all the same. Speakers are the easiest to pick out and make the biggest difference in a system.
  5. Chops, your not a jerk for defending Bose. I think everyone ever born, likes low fi products of some type. We all like a small radio sound for some things. Some have small office radios at work. This is where Bose excels. In the small end of the market with low fi products. It is very (VERY) profitable for them, and they make millions satisfying that market. Klipsch satidfies an audiophile group that likes music, that has a more "you are there" at the performance sound. It is also higher dollar. Klipsch satisfies that market. Each has their own market. Low fi and hi fi both need to be met. Not good or bad, just different!
  6. I have a pair of Cerwin Vegas that are like new. They are LS-15s ($350pr) and worth every penny. If you want, I can pack them up and ship them to you truck freight. Packaging and shipping will cost some though. I'll get you a shipping price if your interested. E-mail me at Spkrdctr@aol.com
  7. For general[purposes such as this thread, volume = volume. Turn it down or suffer the damage.
  8. What does a good decent server cost? Anyone?
  9. I can just about guarantee you (Dr. Who will probably agree) that many clubs have an EQ in the works, and it has been played with by everyone who ever worked there. No one probably knows how good the system would sound if they ever unscrewed it. It is kind of the nature of the beast........... Too many uneducated fingers on the controls.
  10. "Please keep in mind here that there are great speaker brands that are designed from fantastic engineers , there is some good stuff from other manuf's that sound as good if not better than Klipsch." Maybe, but I have only heard gear that sounds as good for triple the price. As for "better" than Klipsch, that is tough..... at any price.
  11. When are you going to start selling them?[] It will be fun to see how this works out. Great project and looks to be a lot of fun.
  12. Dean, I'm dumbfounded at the topic and what has been posted. There are engineers looking for these people to do testing for them...... []
  13. With the larger MLs, for home theater, there is no such thing as too much power. Go big, very big! Like I said, 400 watts per channel........
  14. I would turn the treble control to -2 right away. I would not return the Yamaha until you have tried that. The horns are very efficient and do not need help. I also would advise against messing with the tweeter. Experiment with those controls though, you might find a perfect setting! Good Luck and let us know how your experiments turn out.
  15. Kieth, the above is incorrect. Of all the tests (thousands!) performed in blind studies, never, not once, ever, has anyone picked out speaker wire or interconnects as long as they were within the wide range of a "normal" wire. The speakers swamp any ability to hear a wire. I know it is sad to realize the snake oil that is pushed on people by the high end audio companies, but, that is marketing!

  17. I like MLs too. BUT, I have found that you must look at the top of the line speakers to compare to Klipsch. You need a ton of power (I'd look at 400 watts per channel) and a willingness to abuse the speakers to really have fun with Home Theater. They will work, but you need a nice sub. The Klipsch, RF 5 and 7 series sound just as good and do not need the major power requirement. All in all though, the MLs sound good for normal listening levels. I'd buy them if I could get them for Klipsch prices.....
  18. I have had many a Bass Module apart and they have multiple drivers in them. They basically use smaller drivers in a tuned cabinet to get the bass they want. Also they all have limiters in the circuit so that you can't push them hard enough to break them. Well, it works in theory... What really happen is the modules are pushed so hard that the limiters burn out and the drivers burn up also. The bass module is ALWAYS, I will repeat this for effect, the Bass Module is ALWAYS the weak link in the chain for the Bose Lifestyle system. The little cubes will take quite a beating and keep going. Some do fail from abuse, but not many. Sheesh! You guys got me talking about Bose again.....[]
  19. The other responses pretty much give you great advice. I also say forget the Atoms. They are useless for a surround system of high quality. Does Best Buy have stores in Canada? If they do, they sell the SUB-12 from Klipsch. Good Luck on your setup.
  20. Wow, too much driver in a very small space. Plus, I would guess that your head is in line with the tweeter. It is like sitting in front a a speaker at a concert. Just too much too close. (That is a killer set up for rattling your brains!) I rarely advise going smaller, but in this case, smaller will probably be much better. Good Luck with your set up. Just looking at your setup makes me want to reach for the volume knob to turn it down.......[] Good Luck with your set up.
  21. Ear, all three of the tweeters you mention are of such good quality, that they are used around the world as fire alarm buzzers. [] I have listened to the best of the best in speakers many times. I have compared them all side by side and I ALWAYS pick the same manufactures speakers EVERY time. Even Klipsch takes a back seat to the worlds finest speakers. Nothing sounds like a live performance as a Bose Lifestyle Home Theater system. It is the cream of the crop. I know that even you will agree that even your diamond enhanced super tweeter is nothing, compared to the Bose Supercube! OK, so I was overdosed on pain meds when I wrote this........[]
  22. You must remember that a correlation does NOT mean 100%. Sheesh! Michael is obviously bending the curve. But, he might end up over time, becoming one of the many instead of the few. I think he will do alright. Most of you obviously have lived the Klipsch lifestyle. Lots of Klipsch speakers and lots of sex. Those who don't have a clue what I'm talking about, just need to hang in there until you too, end up living the life. Good Luck on your Klipsch adventures!
  23. You need to have some technical articles on the website. For example, a paper on what "was the goal in designing the new Ref series versus the old series?" If you need help, I can give your engineers some ideas on what people would like to read about when searching online for speakers. Some of the competitors websites are doing this and have for years. Legacy (Bill) has some very interesting reading on his website. What were the design goals for the SUB-12? Were they reached? What are the performance parameters of the Sub-12 versus the model it replaced? Why is it downfiring? Why not front firing? How did the engineers get so much performance in such an inexpensive package? What makes klipsch speakers sound like you are in front of a live singer on vocals and instrument solos? How do they put you "right there" in front of the performer? I could go on, but I think you get the point! It allows you to do a "Bose" and put your own information out in the marketplace on why Klipsch speakers are so good. If you have the greatest speakers in the world at a specific price point, sing about it LOUDLY, be proud. I'm always willing to help if needed. Klipsch Speakers- Better sound through better science! Gee, a catch phrase! Let's market these things.........
  24. Has anyone besides me noiticed that if a woman is into Klipsch speakers, she is also into having fantastic crazy/wild sex? I have also found the guys I know are into Klipsch products, are also into mega sex with women. Seems the people who buy Infinity, Polk, B&W and others do not act this way. Why is this? Do horns have something to do with it? Subliminal messages through horns? Just a tidbit of interesting info that seems to hold up to non-scientific scrutiny........... KLIPSCH=SEX No wonder Klipsch is growing by leaps and bounds!
