  1. If it were me I would do everything I could to make the Heresies work for surrounds. You already have such a good Heritage setup in the works. I moved your couch and other furniture just slightly out from the wall and down toward the bottom of the picture. Keep the Heresy as the bottom of the picture firing at the side of the couch. Take the Heresy that is up top and move it between position #1 and position #2 depending on if you are just "watching TV" verses critical watching of a movie. In #1 it is a bit in the way in position #2 it is out of the way but still functioning. You would have to tighten up you front set up just a bit too in order to center everything. I would at least try something like this for a month or so and see if you can live with it. You can always all the surrounds up to later if you must....however I think that is a compromise you should try as a last result. If you like it, great, that is all that matters. Good Luck, Rich EDIT: Looks like the speakers I drew in did not show up very good. The one with #1 on it did ok there should be a #2 on the angled one. There should also be a better looking box near the bottom of the room below the couch facing the couch. I'll try to fix it up.
  2. What ship ya on and what sort of cruise (Med, WestPac, etc.)? I was in an F-14 Squadron that deployed on the USS America (Aircraft Carrier) from 1984-88. Six months is a long time to be away, but looking back it was a fantastic experience. So many cool places to see and take in. You just can't see the type of sunsets and starry nights anywhere on land like you can on a ship 100s of miles from land in any direction. Best of luck to you. Thanks so much for your service!
  3. I am having a tough time seeing your floor plan in my mind based on the pictures. Can you make a crude drawing in paint and post it? Make the drawing as if you were looking down from the ceiling. I agree you want to find a way to use the Heresies as surrounds.
  4. 400-1000 dependent on all the usual things, finish, condition location. Tons of Forte and Chorus for 600 for a handy make em look nice guy like yourslef, Michael.
  5. Klipschorns 2,000 - very impresive to listen to and to look at. 5 Heresies 1,000 - probably less LCD projector 2,000 (lots to choose from check out the Panasonic 700) DVD player free - I bet you got one...you will upgrade down the road Carada screen 700 - As good as anything I have seen 1/3 the price of Stewart A bunch of Blue Jean cables 300 That leaves you 2K for a A/V receiver...I vote you up the budget to 10 leaving you 4K for decent separates. Put the money into amps they last forever and you can upgrade the Pre/Pro as new features become available. Welcome to the forum. This should get you going. Use the search feature and you will find tons of info. I just spend the last year building my room so drop me a line if you have specific questions. EDIT: I thought 8K was your limit. At 10K you are ready for a seperate pre/pro and amps already.
  6. I just find it easier to empathies with Dirk in this case. I know how I would have felt this past weekend when GaryMD and I showed up to get our Bells had we found that the price was doubled. Dirks particular auction was obviously worded as a pair. This guy had tired to sell them at least twice before as a PAIR. I know I live in MD and wanted them I asked him if I could come by and look at them - he said no. I guess I warmed him up to the idea for you/Gary. I agree the latest auction states each or something to the factso he obviously knows he was in the wrong/unclear or he would have left the wording the same for future auctions. 1600 a pair is a tad on the low side but not unreasonably low. I think ebay Belles are more often in the 1800-2200 range. 1600 each or 3200 a pair is much more to the high side for used belles then 1600/pair is on the low side. That alone would lead the diligent, eba, belle watcher to believe they were for a pair along with the wording. While I dont think his intent was to deceive or rip anyone off I still think ebay should have made him make good on the auction. Though that would be hard. At the very least I think the seller should offer Dirk the speakers at what ever price he is willing to sell them for first. Most likely Dirk would decline as he now feels wronged. Good luck with the purchase if it moves forward and enjoy them. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Gary did say they are in great shape. As for my heart it is two sizes too smalljust like the Grinch30 more years is not going to make me think Dirk did not get screwed. BTW, my brick throwing remark was in jest, just incase any of you out there take every single word in the forum literally. I advocate no violence unless it is directed toward country music or Bose HTIAB systems.[]
  7. Nice guy or not, I am totally with you Dirk. I would be driving up and throwing a brick through that guy's window. Sure he is an old guy trying to get what he thinks is right for his equipment...but I bet if he went into a Klipsch store 30 years ago and the speakers were shown as a pair with a single price on the tag he would have jumped up and down until he got them for the ADVERTISED price. That auction was totally listed as a pair. Honest mistake or not ebay should have made him make good on it for you.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  8. Yesterday to try things out for a short time I set to yes: "Enable Email Notifications of replies to your posts" in the control panel. I got an email about every post to every post I had made. I quickly set it back to No. However I still get bombarded with email. I have since made sure it is still set to no. Still I get lots of unwanted emails. Did anyone else try this? Were you able to turn it back to no with success? Amy or anyone else have a suggestion?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  9. Guess I should re-read before posting.[:$] I was going from memory (which apparently is failing) I knew you suggested starting fresh, but forgot you mentioned the Quartet. I should have know better you are nothing if not detailed and thorough.[]
  10. Hate to spend all you money for you but Academies would make killer surrounds as well. They are pricy and hard to find. I think that is why Olorin originally suggested you might consider a new line of speakers for HT and keep the C IIs for 2 channel. It is not impossible to find 3 academies, see my earlier message about 3 for $1800. If that is in your budget and you are diligent about ebay/audiogon you can probably swing it in the coming months. The problem is they don't make them any more so it is totally supply and demand. I am shocked that nobody has figure a way to make an Academy clone and sell them for 400 or so each. I would think they would sell several each month. If you have some space check out Quartets as well. Same family as Chorus/Forte/Academy and smallest of the floorstanders.
  11. DD, thanks for the reply. I was starting to think nobody could read my post with the new forum software. Surely there is a person out there with "S" year speakers and and Oil finish. Are they glossy like a poly finish or do I need to consider stripping a bit in an inconspicuous part of the speaker?
  12. I totally agree on three chours up front. In reading the original post I belive he needs a smaller center. If that is not the case then by all means look for Chori in the 600-900 dollar range over an Academy. If a C I would fit the bill check out this almost perfect pair here http://mantistech.com/klipsch/Chorus/ChorusPix.htm
  13. Ya can't have everything instantly. It has taken me about 15 years to get my HT to the point it is now. Long way from Dolby pro logic and Forte II in my one bedroom apartment. Send me 3,800 bucks and I will run out tomorrow and get the THX Ultra II dual subs and amp. I'll even let you listen any time you like[]
  14. Joe, even missing the one wall to make the 2nd corner they did sound fantastic when I heard them on Saturday. Gary and I were wondering as we drove off how far they were apart. You say 14 feet? Is that back corner of khorn to back corner of the other khorn? I would have thought it was more when I was there. Again, fantastic sound! BTW, thanks for the belle. Not sure if you get to HT forum much but I posted some pix of you orphan relocated to its new home.
  15. DitD, Nice clean look I like the paint and the decorations. What is on top of the speakers? Do they move around a bit when you crank the volume? Your picture above the TV looks like it is not quite level. Is that the angle of the ceiling making it look that way? At any rate I like the artwork.
  16. All my current and previous klipsch speakers have had oil finishes. To me they have the look and feel of the actual wood not just a wood look with a protective cover like liquors/varnishes/polys have. That is until I got my new Belle this weekend. The tag on the back of both say BK-WO but this speaker looks more like a coffee table with a polyurethane finish then oiled wood. The grain is not as pronounced and it has more of a shine to it. My khorns are 87s my 4 heresies are 85s. Forte IIs, Chorus, KG4s are all late 80s to early 90s. These Belles are "S" I think that makes them 78s if I am not mistaken. Is it possible that the different (older) years look/feel different or is it more likely that these have had years and years of spray on furniture polish that is giving them a "plastic" look? Any suggestions on getting them to look more like the rest of the collection? BTW, if you are interested in our (GaryMD and Me) trip this weekend to Joessporsters house check out my thread on the new girl in the HT forum. Pix there for you pic-loving types. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  17. A beat up black one might be had for 300. Less if you are lucky. A WO or OO in nice shape might run more then 650. Currenlty they tend to be a little cheaper in the 400 to 500 range. Once the weather turns cold and people turn their focus indoors they price will go back up. What finish are you CIIs? Trust me you want an Academy. Save your pennies, beg, borrow and steal to get one. They are that good with Chorus/Forte/Quartet. Just to give you an idea of value back in January or so I bought three black ones for 1800. A bit on the high side, but I am a "must have it now" type of guy. My needs changed and I sold the last one for 500 or 550 I can't remember. Do a search on the forum for Academy and you will find out that you simply must have one. Stick with it and you will be rewarded. Your Choruses are great mains for a HT and the perfect starting point. Good Luck
  18. I am using a Sunfire Theater Grand IV as my pre/pro and 4 Carver TFM-25 2 channel amps. I like every aspect of the Sunfire TGIV. Build quality and finish are top notch; it looks and sounds great; very simple to hook up and use; fantastic remote. As for the amps I personally think Carver SS gear mates very nicely with Klipsch speakers. I have used them for many years in my HT and 2 channel set ups with KG4, Forte II, Chorus and khorns. My guess here is that everybody will tell you what they currently have and that they like it. You might also get some good advice asking what people have used and NOT liked. I for one did not like the sound of Klipsch speakers with Adcom amps. In my limited listening I have not been impressed with Yamaha, but I know lots of people use it and love it. If you can audition new gear it might help you decide. If you go the used route you can probably buy, try and resell if needed with out much lost other then time and shipping. Take the Carver TFM-25 as an example. They are on ebay all the time and go for about $300. You could buy one use it for a bit and if you did not like it sell it for 300 and just be out your time, effort and ebay fees. Buy now in the summertime and sell in the fall/winter and you might even make a buck or two.
  19. Frzn, Saturdays events along with cleaning up the Belles did not leave too much time for critical listening. My wife and I watched one movie Saturday night (In Good Company) not much of a move for soundbut it did have a lot of dialogue. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> What I noticed about the Belle over the Chorus was that it seemed to be more voice like and a bit deeper. Not deeper in a Bass-ey sort of waybut fuller. To me is sounded more like hearing your own voice when you talk rather then listening to somebody else talk. That is more breathy and resonate. Almost as if you are feeling the vibration in your lungs and sinuses. Hard to explain different then the Chorus. I liked it. I never really thought the Chorus had any timbre problems with the khorns though. Maybe my ear is not the critical. At any rate it looks great having that front three.
  20. OK, enough pictures here is the story. GaryMD and I set out Saturday morning to track down the ever elusive beast. WO Belle pair in decent shape within driving distance that does not require a 2nd mortgage. Yea that is a tall order but if finally came together. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Joe aka Joessporster was the gracious organ donor. Dont feel at all sorry for Joe, he has really nice looking set of WL khorns now and a killer vinyl set up with more LPs then some record stores I have been in. GaryMD was on a tight time table so we did not have much time to enjoy Joes fine hospitality. I wish I had more time to check out his turntable as I am green with envy. Thanks Joe! We drove like he!! threw the Belles in the back of my KlipsMover and drove what seemed be an eternity through Saturday-last-minute-school-shoppers and highway-clogging-idiots who dont get out of the left lane for Klipsch-ers in a hurry. At any rate we made it back to my pad for a quick song or two on my gear and quick workout of the home theater. I am sure <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Gary was happy to leave as my vinyl set up probably hurt his ears (Gary really has the finest set up I have heard to date). I dont think I am doing too badly with the HT end of things and I think Gary enjoyed The Who and Dianna Krall Concert DVD cuts. No time for a real movie thrashinganother day, Gary. As rushed as it was I had a blast. Always nice to meet forum members (Joe) and picking up the last piece of my 7.1 Heritage puzzle was icing on the cake.
  21. And another for your viewing pleasure. Stop by if you want the sonic pleasure.
  22. Well that was not too badbut it looks like we only get on pic per post. Anybody know how to work around that? I cant seem to upload the image unless I use the post button. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Anyway here is another. This shot is from the closet under my basement stairs not the greatest but if you look on the left side you can see a Heresy surround and some of the treatments I put over my French doors to cut down on the harsh reflections off of the glass. Really darkens the room too
  23. Hmmm, lets see first post with the new forum should be a good one. How about I show you the new girl in my life and at the same time I see if I can post a picture. If this works I will give more detail in a post below. I think you all know what the girls name is. It starts with a B. She looks pretty good for an old girl. Seen a bit of hard times has some bumps and bruises but over all she looks pretty nice.
  24. I don't think they will be selling for 1600 each take a look at this thread http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=69923 The idiot has had them in several auctions over the last couple of months. I tried to take a look at them and he said I could not.
  25. If charcoal and burgundy colors will work for you I have some extra absorption panels I would let go cheap. I also have some diffusion panels that are currently white but can be painted to any color. Take a look at http://www.truesoundcontrol.com/products/absorption.html I have a mix of the following: 2" Studiofoam Wedges DST-422 Studiofoam DST-114 Studiofoam Q'Fusor Sound Diffusors I can get you a more detailed inventory if you need it. Good Luck, Rich
