  1. I know this is asking a lot. But if anyone was willing to pick up a pair of Bells for me (with boxes which is nice) and help me get them to me I would be forever grateful. Here is the auction so you can check out the city. Belles Auction says Naperville, IL. I have used a company called Forward air in the past to ship pinball machines. Basically you box up and strap your item to a pallet. They move them for you. Forward air locations are typically close to airports. FORWARD AIR, INC Address: 351 W. TOUHY AVENUE SUITE 150 DES PLAINES , IL 60018 Anyone able and willing? Even better if you want one I will split them with you!!!!
  2. I 2nd the new center channel. Find a used academy. As for surrounds another pair of Forte or quartets would be great. Depends on the room and how willing you are to see them. Some people want the speakers to be less visable. As for 5.1 vs 7.1 all I can say is I ran 5.1 for some time and liked it. When I did 6.1 it was a lot better. Finally I got a pair on the back wall for 7.1 and it truly is the best so far. Give us some info on your room. Good Luck!
  3. If they are working that is a good price for one...a deal and a half for the pair.
  4. Forte IIs are fantastic speakers. Check out the search feature in the upper right hand corner. You should find a ton of info on Foret/Forte II. I just put in forte II and got pages and pages of hits. Welcome to the board and get ready to buy more Klipsh speakers.
  5. Man, those pix look great! Nice, very nice. However, I must have my khorns installed wrong. I have them situated up and down (not side to side like your pic) with the HF section/grill on the top. I can't wait to get home and throw them on the floor like yours to see how they sound. Seriously, great score and many happy years of listening bliss.
  6. I too have had good luck with UPS. I paid 1800 for three Academies. One was damaged. Seller/Shipper filed a claim, UPS stopped out to look at the box then took the damaged speaker and packing material. About 3 weeks later I had a check (from the seller not UPS) for 600 bucks, 1/3 the total insured value. Could not ask for much more. Good Luck.

Not giving us much to go on. -Jon ---------------- Just like this forum the ebay site has a pretty handy search feature. Took me about 5 seconds. http://cgi.ebay.com/klipsch-lascalas_W0QQitemZ5799337268 BTW, I could have made the above a link for you but figured you needed to do some work. EDIT: Frzn, you were too quick for me
  8. If you are fixed at 3 Academies and assuming you have the room for a large center channel I would think about Three Forte IIs across the front and three Academies across the back for a nice 6.1 set up. For a while I personally had Chorus/Forte II/Chorus up front and Acedemy/Forte II/Academy in the rear and really liked it. Good Luck.
  9. Cost be dammed 3 academies and 2 chori will be killer...and you can always get your money back when you build the dedicated HT in the basement with khorns.
  10. Don't stop at an Academy for the center. Get two more for your surrounds. Move the couch back just a tad and put one on that wall between the doors and the dinette a little higher then ear level and angle it down slightly. Do the same on the other side. I had three Academies for a while and tried just about every combination of Chorus, Forte II and Academy. I really liked the Academy as surrounds.
  11. Can anyone elaborate on this process. I have been toying with the idea of getting LPs into digital format. How hard? How good do they sound for casual listening? What software needed? Thanks!
  12. FWIW, I have had Heresy and Heresy IIs. For a while I had them both. I did not do a very scientific A/B sort of switching test. But I did run them in the same room on the same equipment with the same material and to be honest with you I could not tell the difference. That is to say by the time I got the music stopped, swapped speakers and fired up the same song what ever difference there is was lost on my ears. You can still buy Belles, Khorns, and Heresy IIs new. If you thought you might in the future then I would go the HII route. If you thought you might get an older pair of khorns or Belles in the future I might lean toward the original Heresy.
  13. Have you guys seen the movie Sideways? ...and a hint if asperagus Are you chewing gum?.... I'm not drinking any f@%$ing Merlot
  14. Agree great name, great movie. Dirk, I am using khorns as mains for HT and as my 2 channel speakers. I use a NILES AUDIO DPS-1 which allows you to run one set of speakers switching between two sources (amps, preamp what have you). I realize this does not answer you question about what preamp...but it does give you the option of getting any preamp you want and switching between them. My long range plans will most likely lead me to a blueberry. Another juicy music product Similar to the peach, but with phono stage. Since the blueberry does not have a HT pass through I will still be able to use the khorns for HT and 2 channel with the Niles box. Something to think about. Hope this helps, Rich
  15. Better give a listen to Cake's "Italian Leather Sofa" to celebrate She doesn't care whether or not he's an island She doesn't care just as long as his ship's coming in She doesn't care whether or not he's an island They laugh they make money He's got a gold watch She's got a silk dress and healthy breasts that bounce on his Italian leather sofa. She doesn't care whether or not he's a good man She doesn't care just as long as she still has her friends She doesn't care whether or not he's an island they laugh, they make money He's got a gold watch She's got a silk dress and healthy breasts That bounce on his Italian leather sofa She's got a serrated edge that she moves back and forth It's such a simple machine she doesn't have to use force When she gets what she wants, she puts the rest on a tray in a ziplock bag ...in the freezer She doesn't care whether or not he's an island She doesn't care just as long as his ship's coming in She doesn't care whether or not he's an island They laugh, they make money He's got a gold watch She's got a silk dress and healthy breasts that bounce on his Italian leather sofa
  16. The wife and I split two bottles last night while listening to the Grateful Dead, Helen Merrill, Van Morrison and Neil Young. I am a Cab. person. Last nights bottles were a Ravenwood and This Hahn I liked the Hahn better, but he Ravenwood is a good everyday bottle due to the price. We uncorked an 80 dollar bottle of Beringer (still have one in holding) last April for our 10th anniversary. That is about as pricy as I can stand for a consumablenow audio equipment that is another story. Collection...they don't last long enough in my house to qualify as a collection.

    Primer

Check this out Primer Time Line I loved the movie.
  18. DGB, Count em up, PSU is the 11th in the big 10. I remember fondly the days before PSU was allowed in our exclusive club. Sort of a Big 10-Lite school. Just kidding some good natured ribbing from a UofM grad. I do love Joe-Pa! State college PA is a nice area too. We are!.....

My guess would be reznil used the search feature and is looking for khorns. Your post and the post before yours (and now mine) are the only ones is this thread in about 8 months. Good Luck reznil!
  20. Interesting side noteor maybe not depending on your point of view. When I was looking at my theater seats I got to talking to the owner of the joint I ended up buying from. They specialize in start to finish HT builds. Clients tend to be more on the professional athlete/corporate executive/high ranking political figure types not the equipment geeks or do it yourself types that I believe the average forum member tends to be. Anyway they do lots of 150,000 dollar and up installs with many topping 250,000. He did say that he is gaining a lot of business where people have taken some equity out of the red hot housing market in the area we live in. These people are completely revamping a room or adding an addition to their house but have no interest in doing anything themselves. For these customers he says the ideal price point tends to be about $75,000. He went on to say that about 25K of that goes to equipment. The rest to construction, furnishings, finishing and profit. 75K seemed a bit high to me. I cant see the average 35-55 year old couple with 2 kids to put through college dumping 75K on a TV and speakers. But he had no reason to lie to me. I had already detailed my room to him and he knew he was not getting any business from me except for the seats. You guys/gals think a complete room soup to nuts with no effort on your part except to pick the colors of the carpet, walls and seats is a 75K job? Ill tell you this - the demo theater they had built in the show room was killersadly no Klipsch products.
  21. Middle Atlantic Rack $2,000 ---------------- rhathawy, please tell me more about the rack. I love their products. So what did you go with? Is it one of those 8' jobs that extends and swivels? I must know.
  22. Sounds like you got all the colors covered, feersum. How is my old academy sounding now that you have had time to give it a workout?
  23. Oak to black would be easy...paint it. Black to OO or WO would require new vaneer.
  24. Great idea O, I was thinking the exact same thing when I posted that comment in the Academy thread with 10K coming off the top of my head. I am afraid I might regret this. But here it is in no particular. These are all round numbers to make the math easier. If anyone has specific question about a particular cost I will try and find you a more accurate price. Equipment HT only no two channel stuff Sunfire TGIV 3,000 4 Carver TFM -25 amps 1,500 Denon 3910 DVD player 1,000 Furman line conditioner 250 Rack Rails, aluminum trim, paint, etc. (all rack stuff) 100 Rack Shelves 300 Khorns 2,300 Chorus 750 2 pair Heresies 500 Fixed Screen 700 Projector and mount 2,500 Various speaker wire, interconnects, spades, bananas, etc. 1,000 Total 13,900 Room raw unfinished basementnothing but cement. I know my limitations 900 Primer, Paint, brushes, drop cloths and the like 200 Acoustical treatments 750 Total 10,500 CDs, DVD, SACDs, DVD-A, LPs.not even going to try and guess. Grand total = 24,400 Damn, I could go to a lot of movies for that. I better start charging admission. My time invested at least 100,000
  25. ---------------- Q is a toughie- gotta wait for Quaker state ad or small town Antique store! ---------------- Hmmm, my family was always looking for the Dairy Queen or LiQuor store. Explains a lot now that I look back on my youth.
