  1. Let's see a picture of your setup. I need to see why your RF-62s are only three feet from each other. You need to get a lot more room in between them before it would ever make a lick of sense to get a center speaker! []
  2. Save your money until you have more to spend on a better sub. It doesn't make sense to get a couple cheap subs just to say you have subs. Your Quartets should put out pretty decent bass by themselves. A sub in that price range is going to be a one note boombox. Look around for a used Sub-12. Someone on here recently was selling one in the Garage Sale section for $250.
  3. If my opinion counts at all, I wouldn't put any surround speaker up there. You're only going to be able to fit a pair that's extremely small and would be easily drowned out by your front speakers. Plus, in a surround system the surrounds are meant to go beside and only slightly behind the main listening position, not on the back wall. I think most people would prefer no surrounds to poorly mis-matched and mis-placed ones. I have a pair of floorstanding KG 3.5s that I'm using as my side surrounds that work awesome with Forte fronts.
  4. I watched it on Blu-Ray and thought it was a great movie as far as sound as well.
  5. I just picked up a pair of KG 3.5s as my surrounds and I must say they are much better than I had hoped them to be. I just watched the Eagles Farewell HD-DVD and they were amazing as surrounds. I previously had RS-42s and the KGs sound much more like the Fortes than the RS-42s did.
  6. Thanks for making my ears ring.
  7. Schools are delayed for a quarter inch of snow? We'd only have school in Minnesota three months out of the year if that was the case here!
  8. How many Forte IIs do you need there?!? []
  9. Chorus Is are front ported so they are more forgiving on where they are placed in the room. Chorus IIs have a passive rear woofer so they need to be somewhat close to a rear wall for their bass to sound best. Chorus Is have an exponential horn and Chorus IIs have a tractrix horn. Many people prefer the sound of the tractrix in the C II over the exponential horn in the C I. Chorus Is are usually a bit less expensive than Chorus IIs which seem much harder to find used.
  10. Well, I drove and picked up the speakers tonight. Only had to drive an hour each way to get them. They are beautiful! Medium Oak color and in very nice cosmetic condition. Pretty close match to the Oiled Oak in my Fortes. I hooked them up as my surrounds and I have to admit, I really like the sound of this type of speaker compared to the RS-42s that these replaced. I've only listened to some music in AllChannelStereo mode on my receiver so far though. I'll have to see how they do for movies tomorrow but I'm sure I'll like them for movies as well. They definitely have a sound that is closer to my Fortes. The RS-42s had more output in the upper frequencies. The KGs definitely have a fuller sound across a broader range. I like that they are front ported so placement isn't much of an issue at all. Right now I have them sitting about 2 feet behind my main listening position and aimed directly at it. The guy I bought them from said that his wife finally won out and his Bose Acoustimass system replaced his KG 3.5s, .5s and KSW-12 sub. He said he liked the Klipsch quite a bit better than Bose. He was very jealous of my setup. Hopefully my wife didn't get any ideas as she was sitting in the car listening to him talk about Bose...[+o(]
  11. Long read but nice story! AWESOME price on the RF-62s by the way! [] (They retail at $878/pair!) My main recommendation would be to return the Icon center speaker and get either an RC-52 or RC-62 which is the match to the RF-62s. The reason why you liked the RF-62s by themselves for music better is that the Icon speaker isn't the best match as a center speaker for the Reference series of speakers. The timbre you refer to is referring to different speakers that are made with the same or similar components. For example, the RC-62 center speaker uses virtually the same tweeter and woofer as the RF-62 floorstanding speaker. You really do want the front three speakers to match as closely as possible in their sound, or timbre. That way the sound blends across the front of the room nicely and when sound pans back and forth between those speakers it will give you a seamless transition. Having a center speaker isn't absolutely critical, especially in a smaller room like yours. If you feel you went in farther than you thought you would you can always hold off on getting a center speaker until later down the road.
  12. Actually according to the site here the RS-35s are rated down to 81Hz and the RS-3IIs are rated down to 61Hz. Just a guess but Klipsch might have tuned the speaker that way since most people would have their speakers crossed over at 80Hz if they're using a subwoofer so output below 80Hz wasn't as big of a deal. Its possible that by doing that they made the rest of the frequency range (especially the midrange that the woofers cover) smoother as a result.
  13. 80Hz is usually recommended for the crossover frequency of all speakers unless they are very small and don't have much output around the 80Hz range. LFE+Main will depend on what your main speakers are. What speakers are you running?
  14. If you look at the data sheet for the RC-10 you'll see that its -3dB down point is 88Hz. The RB-10s have a 90Hz low end rating. A lot of people say they prefer the sound of the front three speakers when they all have the same crossover point. Given the frequency rating of your speakers I would recommend 100Hz for all three. Audyssey isn't always perfect. It one time measured my old center speaker to be only 4 feet away when in actuality it was over 10.
  15. A hot cup of Gloria Jean's hazelnut coffee from my Keurig coffeemaker. Gotta warm up after shoveling snow for an hour. [:@]
  16. Yeah, we don't get much of that down here in Florida. Got an extra room you could spare? [ip]
  17. My advice? DON'T LOWBALL THIS GUY IF IT IS LEGIT!!!! In all honesty I would offer him $500 if he truly meant $200. You'd still be getting the deal of the century.
  18. I'm beginning to wonder why I never seem to be satisfied with the audio equipment I have. I've had my Forte IIs and my TV the longest of anything in my signature below. On Saturday I'm picking up a pair of KG 3.5s I bought on eBay from a somewhat local seller. I just sold my RS-42s that I was using as side surrounds. Before the RS-42s I had a pair of SS.5s. Since I've had my Fortes I've had 4 different sources of amplification: Sonic Impact T-amp, Rotel RB-980BX 2 channel amp, Harman/Kardon HK3480 integrated amp and my current Onkyo TX-SR805. I've gone through about 5 CD players in the past few years from Cambridge Audio and Denon. I've had a Harman/Kardon and two different Oppo DVD players. Before my Forte IIs I had RF-7s and before that I had RF-25s. I had a Quartet as a center speaker for about 6 months. I had a SVS PC-Plus 16-46 previously and also a Hsu MBM-12. There's probably more gear that I've forgot about too. My wife's usually ok with anything I get as long as I can sell something to help pay for it or pay for the whole thing. I have to admit, I've bought most of the items I have at prices almost too good to pass up: Forte IIs for $275, SVS CS-Ultras and amp for $850 shipped, KG 3.5s for $152.50, Onkyo receiver for $480 shipped, and other good deals. Several times I've made money on buying and selling. At this moment I can definitely say that I am very happy with everything I have. I hope the 3.5s serve me well as side surrounds. I listen to a lot of music and music concerts and like the idea of a more full-range speaker as a side surround. Hopefully I'll be able to make the 3.5s the one and only purchase this year that will affect what's shown below! [:S]
  19. Holy crap dude. Either its a huge scam or someone already bought it from him at that price!
  20. Sorry if it didn't work, guys. I guess I might be the only one to be able to use it. If anyone wants me to buy anything for them and have Parts Express ship it to them I'm cool with that. You can PayPal me the $$. Let me know.
  21. Just posted in the Garage Sale section: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/116332/1173307.aspx#1173307 {edit} Whoops, looks like you beat me to it. That's what going outside and shoveling snow for an hour will do to ya. []
  22. I would recommend a pre-owned Klipsch Sub-12 for your budget.
