Well, mine's on its way to Toshiba for servicing. It is locking up with every disc format including audio CDs. I upgraded the firmware and it still did it. So, I called their customer service and I guess I have to ship it to them (on my dime I might add) and they said they'll turn it around within 3 days and FedEx it back to me. It really sucks because the picture quality is unbelievable and as a DVD upscaler this thing blows my Oppo out of the water. Oh well, in a week I'll have it back hopefully in tip-top shape.

Yep, its crazy isn't it?? I remember finding the very first issue of Computer Shopper magazine at my local library a while back. It was ridiculous what the prices for everything in there were. Years ago my uncle ordered a 386 computer that came with 1 megabyte of RAM, he upgraded the RAM to 2 megabytes and it cost him an extra $1000!

I had weird issues where the Italian Job HD-DVD would lock up and I'd get a horribly loud static sound for a few seconds. Nothing other than forcing the DVD player to turn off by holding the power button down for 10 seconds worked. I'm really hoping the firmware update takes care of whatever that problem is.

Got mine along with The Italian Job HD-DVD. Looks pretty sweet and I can't wait to get a newer movie, especially an animated one to see the true capability of this player. I too have tried and tried downloading the firmware. Looks like I'll have to wait a day or two before I can, I keep getting an error message. SYSTEM OVERLOAD BABY!!

I'm off to check out my local Wal-Mart to see if they have any of the players. I'm supposed to work at 8 but I went in for an hour and a half yesterday on my day off to take care of some things so I can show up a little late just in case "something comes up." []

Before you do that I would suggest spending about $7 on a cable from monoprice.com. That will tell you if its the cable that's the problem. As far as I know HDMI cables aren't as affected by interference issues like interconnects can be.

Do you have your DirecTv DVR outputting a display resolution that your TV doesn't support?

I was there for a different wedding reception a few years back but I don't remember much about the room size. The seating area for guests was quite large but the area the DJ played was small in comparison.

Its a great town if you like hills and industrial areas. The lift bridge is cool but the novelty wears off fast. There is a nice beach on the 'island' side of the lift bridge that's nice in the summer. They do have a lot of nice restaurants and shops in the Canal Park area. Ridiculously cold in the winter and never gets too warm in the summer due to the air being cooled by Lake Superior. I think the average temperature for the Lake is around 42 degrees. You'll always find yourself humming the tune to The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald when you gaze across the great Gitchigumee. []
