  1. My guess is that they both got a shot of too much voltage...probably happened at the same time.
  2. Just string a length of single conductor from one end to the other and do continuity tests?
  3. If you already have a pair of Heresies and you like them, my advice would be to look for more of them on ebay or craigslist etc. Probably would be best to stay in the same "family" of speakers to have a seamless timbre match. Even a single Heresy for a center channel to go with your existing pair as front left and right would be a good starting point. These are very efficient speakers which means that just about any decent receiver will work well with them. Just add more speakers and a sub later if you like. Good luck.
  4. Sounds promising Doc...you could even offer to preset the signal alignment and the EQ based on what the customer has for speakers...
  5. Do any of you think that the day will come where some amp manufacturer will come out with a six channel digital amp, with unbalanced inputs, with crossover capabilities, and with DSP including EQ and signal alignment, and at a reasonable price?? Not asking for too much am I? Might as well ask for measurement capabilities as well.[]
  6. After further research over at AVS Forum it looks like the Quietglue product is in fact inferior to the Green Glue product...
  7. Just an FYI... just looked at the Quietrock website and I see they are now selling a product called Quietglue that looks to be very similar to Greenglue...it is priced quite a bit cheaper as well.
  8. If he is in a basement situation, he will not have to do the floor. Sounds like his wall height may be closer to 8'...at full coverage...1300 sq/ft X .92= $1196. Many users have reported very good performance using anywhere from a half rate to three quarter rates. As far as bang for your buck, it still outperforms anything else out there that I know of.
  9. Ther are two issues you need to research. One is room acoustics...how the shape and size of the room you are constructing will affect the overall sound...this would include issues such as reflections off of walls and room modes etc. The second issue is sound isolation...is it a priority that the sound in your theater stays there, that it will not disturb others outside of your theater. One very informative website regarding sound isolation topics can be found here. Good luck and keep us up to date on your progress.
  10. This could be one the best Super Bowl games in a long while if they both play like they did in their last meeting...which was a so called "nothing" game. Giants are hot, Eli looks as sharp as we've ever seen him, confidance should be high for New York. Still think the Pats should win but they had better be a little sharper than they were yesterday. I am really looking forward to a very entertaining battle.
  11. It's been over a year for me now, I don't miss it at all. I find myself feeling sorry for the few remaining friends that still smoke. Even better news is that my wife has quit for all of two months now (thanks to Chantrix). No sleep problems for me but I have to report that I have just recovered from one of the worst and longest lasting colds that I can remember (sorry to mess up the short cold theory ... Up here in Canada we can really save big when we quit...a pack of 25 cigarettes is about 12 dollars CAN or USD....pack a day costs 4380 dollars for one year. Congrats to all who have kicked the habit and best of luck to those who are getting ready to. Garth
  12. 2008...so far, so good...[]
  13. Good luck and best wiishes to all!! Have a great 2008... Garth
  14. I wonder if the day is near when almost all music is sold via downloads. If that day comes, it would seem that it would be easy for the engineers who want to do some good work, to be able to make different recording qualities available at very little extra cost. For example, for every recording, make an Ipod version available, as well as an audiophile version. Then let the customer choose. Wishful thinking??
  15. Pardon my ignorance if I am wrong here but the fact that there is good bass response in the present setup but not when they are on the short wall tells me that the lack of bass has to be caused by some large cancellations?? You might think about concentrating or stacking your traps so that they might help remove some of the modal issues. It would be a lot of work but if they could be stacked at the ceiling peak, they might be in a good place to help the bass.
  16. Now Mark...those aren't just KHorns...[:|]
  17. Great looking room Marion!! Looks like you must have some good hunting stories as well...(Former Whitetail trophy hunter myself). I am certainly no expert and am quite sure sure the real experts will weigh in soon...but it looks like the steeply sloped ceiling is going to cause you some grief because it wants to focus the sound energy down onto your listening area. Have you looked into phase gratings such as Auralex's "Spacecoupler"? I really like the way they look and with your woodworking skills, you could easily build your own. I would suggest suspending a layer of them somewhere above where your ceiling fan is. I also like the look of their Spacearray diffusor...maybe something to consider on your back wall/ceiling?? I would be a little bit careful about putting to many "bass" traps into the room. These would be more accurately described as broadband absorbers and as such, will be absorbing over a wide range of frequencies and may start to make the room sound too dead. You are definately on the right track with the measuerments you are doing. Good luck with your project! Garth
  18. Here is my take on this for what it is worth. 99.9% of all the species that have ever existed on earth are now extinct. Why do we think things will be different for our species?? Mother Nature has been rolling with the punches for billions of years...what we as a species are doing to the planet is really nothing to Her. Although humans rule the earth for the moment, we certainly will not always do so. We really should think of ourselves as just another on the long list of life forms that have come and gone in the natural world. Life will not only go on without us, it will probably thrive....at least until another species becomes dominate. So it is a kind of good news bad news look at things. The good news is that no matter how badly we screw things up, it is all very natural and life will certainly go on...the bad news is of course for the human race. Should we count on our technological genius to somehow get us through, or get us off this planet? I think not. So if we really have concern for our grandchildren and for other life forms, we should most definately try to leave a smaller footprint as we stroll through our lives. Where does faith fit in to this for me? I have great faith in Mother Nature's enormous capacity to shrug off disasters and given enough time, She will recover and thrive. Believing this to be true is somehow enough for me. Garth
  19. Congrats to Amy, Gary, Travis and any others who have quit. I have been smoke free for over a year now as well. My wife just quit about three weeks ago with the amazing help of Champix. Hope she can pull this off. Really, after one year I can say that any cravings are gone. The only thing left is to ignore the little demon in our minds that occasionally pops in to say, "you should try just one puff"...NEVER EVER EVER give in. If we follow this one rule, we are home free.... Garth
  20. Shawn, looking forward to hearing more about your experiences with the Panny. They have had quite the following over at the AVS forums. Do these not also have signal alignment capabilities?? With a cheap digital crossover ahead of it, might be just the ticket for time aligned khorns...
  21. Available only at Walmart??? What's that all about?
  22. Richard...why not just send your father in law and your uncle on an all inclusive fishing trip somewhere?? On second thought, that probably wouldn't work...they would not feel comfortable leaving you "kids" in charge of things...might have a big party or something...[]
  23. You might want to take your questions to the "garage sale" area of the forum. It is where all the buyers and sellers hang out. Be sure to give a good description of your k-horns including model and serial nos if possible. Include pics as well.
  24. Thanks Mark. Been using the program for about a month now. Lots of good instruction available at youtube and brightcove. Just do a search for "sketchup tutorial"
