  1. 82 degrees here today. May need to plant some tomatoes. Having 3 fingers of Russell's Reserve on the rocks. Go see Crazy Heart with Jeff Bridges if you get a chance. Went tuesday night and liked it and the music. Incidently the first groupie he beds down in the first five minutes of the flick is a girl I took out a few times in high school (Beth Grant). Worth seeing. Fini.....glad you are getting some medical help. Winchester....you're putting together some serious gear. May have to make a trip to Charlotte this year. Ben, Stew....hope you guys are doing well. Cheers gentlemen!
  2. Sounds like the party is at fini's house. I'll open the bar here with some Russian vodka on the rocks...with olives. Cheers to the regulars and those just passing through.
  3. Overcast here. Watching The Syracuse Orange men beating up on Gonzaga...with the volume down. Listening to JJ Cale and Eric Clapton with the volume up......and on the forum. Multi tasking I guess. Baby backs slow roasting. Life in the slow lane[]
  4. Welcome aboard Jimmy[] I would be interested in reading your uncut article!
  5. I can't wait for your impressions of the Palladiums. Man you must be excited. I know I would be. Yes the RTRs are still used daily. I like to make compilation tapes from CDs and LPs. Congratulations again!
  6. Wow....Way to go Boxx[Y] If you were closer I would invite myself over for a listen.
  7. Thanks for asking. We went to Duke Monday and met with her doctor. Apparently it was heart problems that caused the fluid build up and that was treated over the past ten days resulting in a 16 pound fluid loss. Her kidney function has improved to the extent that it is now too early to go on the transplant list. In the mean time I will be checked for transplant compatability and she will be taking new meds in addition to the handful she was already taking. Very good report and she is very excited about the news. Cheers to all!
  8. Definitely Carolina......ooops they are not in it[:$]
  9. Proposition 13......Thats what I was thinking of. I like that....especially for retired folks on a fixed income....their taxes would not go up until they sell.
  10. LOL...yes Stew I knew you were joking. Didn't California do away with property taxes some years back....proposition 56 or something like that?
  11. Stew.....me a socialist? Bluesboy said I am to the right of Barry Goldwater and just a little older[^o)]
  12. Bummer Ace[] Winchester....sure you don't want to stay with a moving magnet cartridge....lot of good ones out there. Put the phono preamp money into a good MM cartridge. Writing checks to pay bills and getting real mad. Public utilities wants a 14% increase....the City has a shortfall and wants to increase property taxes....same with the County idiots. Everyone wants a bigger chunk of the money I earn[:@] Hope you are better fini. Cheers to the regulars and any visitors who drop in. PS....New series on FX tonight.....Justified....at 10pm. Looks like it may be good.
  13. Amazon.com has new copies and 11 used copies starting at $3.75.
  14. Have my fingers crossed for you fini. Why the 10 day delay on the epidural? Bummer about your ticket Stew....hope that works out for you. Tarheels are out of the ACC tournament.....no surprise there. This team never came together[] Maybe next year. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
  15. I made the change to 0 & 2 this past Sunday and had the same experience.....a much more balanced sound. I am using Altec 511 horns and Altec 902 drivers with a Beyma tweeter. You and Marvel have piqued my interest in the bass cabinet extension.
  16. Those are very handsome Khorns and at the price you paid....a real steal. Congratulations!
  17. Winchester has a new avatar! Those horns and drivers should sound great....given it some thought myself. Give us a review once you get them set up. Fini....hope you are doing better. Cheers to all the regulars!
  18. Yes...so true. When Julia had her first transplant many years ago the ACC tournament was on. She gets very vocal watching UNC (especially if Billy Packer is announcing) and I was concerned that might effect her care. Much to our surprise we soon learned that a lot of the staff at Duke are UNC fans! Poor Roy is having a time with this years team[:S] Good to see you back here Stew. Ace....I can read your excitement in your last post. Congrats on the speakers. Have you warned the neighbors? Cheers gentlemen!
  19. Man....you do nice work sootshe! Did you have plans for the bass reflex cabinet or just experiment?
  20. Yeah but when it does get your self some Hanes or Fruit of The Loon....[] Or was that BVDs?
  21. I'm with you Cornwalled but I archive my CDs to RTR tape making compilations of my favorite artist. The tape copy gives a bit of warmth to the sometimes sterile CD. With a turntable and two RTRs I 'm firmly planted in the past and loving every second of it. Matter of fact I don't know what I'll do when I no longer have thoe 10" reels to watch. After all one of the Teacs is 37 years old, rebuilt and going strong, but still old.
  22. Feel kind of like "The Bachelor" having to pick between the last two smoking hot bachelorettes but this morning I woke with clarity and my final decision. Bugle Boys for the Jolida CDP and Telefunken for the Quicksilver Audio Full Function preamp. The BBs were a no brainer and I love the Teles when spinning vinyl. The difference with rolling all these fine AX7s is subtle and I don't know if I could choose correctly in a blind test. The surprise tube would have to be the RCA 5751s which are a very easy, non fatiguing tube as Brent Jesse describes it in his review. I like the valvos for the punch they seem to provide and unlike some of you the Mullards finished next to last to my ears! I will point out again...this was extremely non scientific and you should let your ears and audio system decide. I have felt my QS gear is a bit analytical and was looking to add some warmth and better imaging and thats how I arrived with my decision. The HK500 which I think is very warm and musical may benefit from a completely different approach....I'll find that out over the next few days. So there....thats done. Reminds me of two two pschological principles from my college days "two point threshold" and "just noticeable difference". They must have been talking audio. Okay winchester...thats my take for what its worth.
  23. Already? Seems like just last year about this time he had one[] Oh well....[^] Tony!
  24. A pretty...sunny day here in the 50s. Tube rolling and a drink of Russell's Reserve...10 year old bourban. Called our favorite restaurant....full till 9:45....looks like the economy is starting to turn. Going to Duke on March 15th to be evaluated as a kidney donor for the wife....got the letter today. She is doing better having lost 10 pounds of fluid thanks to diuretics. The diagnosis.....congestive heart failure due to a poorly functioning kidney but hopefully that will change with the fluid loss. Juvenile diabetes is hell on the body. Anyway...thats enough about me. Whats up with the rest of you guys. Fini....hope you are better!
  25. Ain't that the truth Oldtimer.....someone told me to chill, smoke a blunt[] BTW....Natalie Merchant's Tigerlilly is a great test CD.....tracks 5&6 have some nice...tight bass. Man......This is fun....and its only Saturday afternoon. Winchester.....having three fingers of Russell's Reserve...a 10 year old small batch....bien!
