  1. I need to see a picture of mothr first. I can't be making these important decisions without all the facts. BTW who would you pick......Lassie or Rin Tin Tin? Amos or Kingfish? Opie Taylor or Beaver Cleaver? If you get all three right someone will give you a new pair of Cornwalls I'm just not sure who.
  2. Now Bluesboy......I did 36 miles on the Appalachian Trail last summer. I may be 58....but I am in better shape than men twice my age[:^)]
  3. Heck Kimball......with all those fine speakers I may ride my bike out there[]
  4. Woodog....can't believe none of those corn fed boys and girls from Iowa have responded. That is not typical forum hospitality. I know its a few blocks out of your way but stop on by the Carolinas after leaving the dtels in Mississippi and have a cold one with us.
  5. Welcome home Tommyboy[<)][D][8][ip]
  6. jbsl.....try tubedepot.com, the tubestore.com. tubesandmore.com and my favorite dougstubes.com. Chuck
  7. I see Duke's system but I don't see yours. Please give us a hint.
  8. Congrats Bill.....hard to beat good old vinyl.......listening to Modern Times on 180 gram as we speak.....hope I don't burn the filets on the grill. Enjoy.
  9. Very good deal Jordan....congrats and enjoy. Let us know what you think. Man that price had my little brain spinning.
  10. Thanks for the reply Hal. I had heard that I would get more bang for the buck changing out the 12DW7 tubes and I did just that a year ago. I was told to try to find some nos from the 50s but had to settle for some Phillips tubes from the 80s. Looking at nos Mullard 12DW7s as we speak. Also have been looking at some Tung Sol 6550s power amp tubes from Dougstubes.com. This is what I need to retube the Quicksilver Audio Full Function preamp. 12AX7 (2), 12AU7 (1), 12FQ7 (2), 5AR4 (1). Can get the whole set from QS but they are all new chinese and russian tubes. Would like to find some nos for the preamp. Any suggestions appreciated. JBSL and Craig....tube rolling can be expensive and in the back of my mind I doubt the change is worth the expense. I got the KT-77s not long ago and doubt the difference in those and the 6550s is significant. Correct me if Iam wrong. Craig I think I remember reading in another thread that you like the 6550s. Mike at QS does'nt think much of tube rolling since he voices the amps for certain tubes but at the same time he built the horn monos for those who have horn speakers and like to tube roll.
  11. I bought a Powerball ticket today. If I win I will be there. I will be the ugly guy in the new Porsche.
  12. Congrats Maron on the tripod.....my lab is 13 and arthritic but still gets around.
  13. Don't have that selection just hear it on the radio but anything would be better than watching "Somethings Gotta Give" with the wife. Even with three Absolut martinis under my belt Neal would be better. Come on by Sunday and we can listen to some that you don't admit to such as Helen Reddy "I am woman Hear Me Roar" or some of your other favorites.
  14. I bet there are a lot of us who have music they had rather not admit that they have or listen to. I will go first an admit there are times when I hum Lionel Richie tunes. I have also been known to sing along with Neil Diamond "Crackling Rosie you're a store bought woman but you've got me singing like a guitar hummin". So go ahead and get it all out.....what are you embarassed to admit you like. Come clean and you never have to be ashamed again.
  15. Stringmun 1.......Glad you posted. I have to retube the preamp and I wondered if anyone was experimenting any or just reordering from Quicksilver. How did you arrive at your selection for the preamp tubes? Was told one of the preamp tubes is getting hard to find. What did you notice after changing the tubes from originals? Chuck
  16. Hal.......So the difference was really noticable? I could not say the change from EL-34s to KT-77s was that great in my horn monos so now I am thinking about Tung Sol 6550s. Kinda interesting that you resurrected this old thread on the day I was researching tubes for the amps and the Jolida 100. Glad you are pleased with your tube rolling. I will let you know when I get the 6550s. Chuck
  17. Thanks Gilbert.....have you tried KT-77s? That is what I am using now and I wonder how they compare with the 6550s. Chuck
  18. Another satisfied Jolida 100 owner here. Mine is the mini-mod from Hot Rod Audio and they call it the Jolida 100SR. Different tubes, soundproofing, Sorbothane feet, different output jacks. The remote is very substantial....don't drop it on bare feet.
  19. Thanks Dee and Danny. Danny I will wait for your assessment/review before I order them Chuck
  20. CecAA850.....would like to have one day of your rain to end our drought. Hope things turn for you soon. Hang in there. dtel's wife.....no....none of us made it to the pilgrimmage. Maybe next year. I have read all about this years gathering and it seems to be a happening.
  21. dtel's wife.....blossom end rot is caused from a lack of calcium and land plaster adds calcium to the soil. I had thought about the pot size though mine are considerable sized terra cotta pots. May go larger next year. Thanks for the tips.
  22. Thanks Speakerfritz and Seasteri......I found them at Doug's tubes for $125 for a matched quad. The Horn Monos can use a variety of tubes and came with EL-34s which I replaced with KT-77s. They are very attractive tubes but the KT-77s are almost new so I really would like to pick up a bargain. Seasteri I have'nt tried the KT-88s yet but they are also on my list. Will check ebay Fritz.
  23. I'm on the other end of the state....the coast.... but if you ever get over this way I will get Bluesboy, Spongeworthy, and UFObuster together for a little southern get together. Would be fun.
  24. I want to try some 6550 tubes preferbly a matched quad of Tung Sol in my Quicksilver Horn Monos. Anyone have a lightly used quad for sell before I go to Doug's Tubes? Do they really sound that good or is the stubby round shape the attraction?
  25. Wolf sleeps under the porch? He looks spotless. My lab stays inside and she still smells like a dog and lets not even talk about her breath. My first thought about your pics was how white and clean both animals seem. Took Kate to a dog spa 2 weeks ago for a wash, blow dry, mink oil for the coat and it lasted 2 days. Now doggy smell again[+o(]
