  1. For critical listening I go "analog pass through" and tone defeat". I want to hear what the system is supposed to sound like uncluttered and without the distortion or processing from the items you list.
  2. Ear, Being of the same geographic bent as Bloomis(he probably lives within 6 or 8 kilometers from me); we feel the same about Ontario. I really know very little about Quebec. Are you less tense in French?
  3. Shape, Cool story on the SR71. I decided to get married in 1983 instead of going to try OCS and the chance to fly a Harrier or F18 for the Marines. US military aircraft has capability we only know 15-20 years after the fact. I asked a pilot in a blizzard at Detroit Metro one time if the snow made him nervous. Being a former Naval aviator he replied,"once you have landed on an aircraft carrier in the dark with no moon, everything else is a walk in the park".
  4. I just heard ML earlier this week. They are real SS power hungry. The guy I know has ADCOM electronics with Sony digital front end. Real nice sounding, maybe just a bit lacking in dynamics(slower transients than hhhigh efficiency speakers) since they need so much power. For the money I would go with LaScalas or RF7s. I am reasonably intrigued by the Legacy speaker line designs and use of the ribbon tweeters; hard to find a way to listen to those.
  5. I listened to "The Captain and Me" by the Doobies 2 times today in the surround mode with the Panasonic RP91. It makes the RB5s sound like they were meant to sound in my brain dead opinion. Vinyl without the hassle perhaps. Although it has been about 8 years since I listened to vinyl in large doses. I use the MSB Link II with pretty nice AQ interconnects for CDs, which is pretty good BUT...it sounds a bit tinny or shrill on the top end compared to DVD-A. I have been thinking about adding the upsampling the the LINK to see if there is an improvement for CDs. No SACD experience yet.
  6. Welcome to Klipsch land I listened to LaScalas and Hereseys as a teen ager. I went from KSB 3.1 to RB5s in recent years. Now I would like to do an all analog system for the living room based around Hereseys or KLF 20. I am hopeless...
  7. Stream of conciousness comments... RB5 is maybe a little faster tighter midbass RF3 has lower bass extension RB5 will cost more if you buy a good pair of stands, you can play with height, anchor differently to moderate vibration RB5 is prettier RF3 may be a little more efficient RB5 "good things come in small packages" HSU sub is cool I use a sealed Adire Audio Rava sub with my RB5s. With sealed cabinets you can give up some low bass extension and eficiency but I think you get a faster tighter sound. Rava is nice looking HSU has the port plug for experimentation Good luck and happy Klipscin' Rick
  8. Maybe a good thread has a close number of views .vs. replies. and the dogs have 3 replies and 100 views. Like this one...
  9. Stay away from in wall for you critical listening system if you can. YOU CAN NOT MOVE THEM! Moving around an SB3 RB5(on stands of course) or rf3 gives you much desired tweaking flexibility. I have RC3 and RB5s. A great way to go if it fits the budget. I am real picky; I have been into this obsession since 1976. Also recommend 15% of system cost for speaker cables and interconnect budget(Audio FLynn rule of thumb). Some people hate to pay more than the cost of a six pack of bud for a pair of cables. I suggest somewhere between a bottle of single malt scotch and a romantic dinner for 2 with a nice cabernet for a per pair expense.
  10. I have the Panasonic RP 91 and only one DVD A. it is the Doobie Brothers "Captain and Me" I really want to listen to it more critically. IT IS BETTER THAN CD BY FAR; whether it is 2 channel or surround. I have been real busy with family events during the past 2 months, I will isten more and give an update. There was a recent interview by the head of Meridian in The Absolute Sound I think. He though there was allot of flaws remastering tape to DVD A or SACD. There was some kind of distortion he did not like from SACD. It was the kind of article I need to read 4-5 times to understand. Yes there should be outboard DACs for any format. Anyone who has used an MSB Link or better DAC with CDs knows the "all in one" concept of transport and decoder in one box can be improved significantly. SACD is a Sony Phillips(big corporation) technology. DVD A "seems" to be endorsed more by HIFI and music people.
  11. I liked he thought "if you do not like the thread read something else". There is plenty of audio stuff to read. 95% of the forum content is audio related and none of the webmasters have advised us we have run them out of hard drive space or bandwidth. I am "way" right in my political bent. -parents only bought me one bike -had a paper route for 6 years as a kid -none of my first 3 cars cost over $ 350; worked on them at least every month Rarely has anyone given me anything unless I worked for it. I like to hear people from the left because i am somewhat callous to left wing type "give aways". I am sure some people are in dire need of help but I think in many cases they could help themselves. I am a product of my environment. The poltical bent of the forum participants adds that depth or third dimension to their comments as "deang" referred to. Most times it is a positive.
  12. I get concerned with people that say we do not want to talk "politics" on the Klipsch site. The people I know outside of the forum that buy Klipsch and myself have vast discusssions outside of audio. Politicians prefer we never talk about politics in person, on the telephone, or on a WEB site. "People who think less and talk less make better sheep and more easily acquiesse to the whims of the intelligencia." Fredrick Schopp 1968
  13. ...and lorries aint girlfriends they are trucks SHAPE Congrats on "no life" More than nice system pictures! If you need home delivery on beer during a marathon critical listening session and you do not feel you can leave withoutcompromising the integrity of the evaluation, let me know. No charge for delivery... or the beer. Rick
  14. Deang, Really like your use of the word "dupe" in refernece to the unfortunate stagnation of "The Republic" due to the 2 party system. Too much rhetoric and too many lies to sort through to find the truth. Rick
  15. Dean, Have you ever read "The Case for Christ"? I prefer faith over science. There is allot science cannot explain to my satisfaction. But "The Case for Christ" is written by a former atheist lawyer somewhat in the form of multiple proofs. An interesting premise for a convert.
  16. Ed, The reason the "Pledge" discussion in the courts bothers me is that our courts should be put to good use punishing felons like the people at Enron, World Com and Xerox that ruin peoples lives while they enrich themselves through fraud and theivery. They are no different than liquor store robbers with a .38 and that is who they should bunk with them in prison. No need for conjugal visits Bubba will give them plenty of Lovin'. Politicians adress symptoms instead of root causes. We ought to have an ammendment to the constitution that prevents lawyers from running for public office. Then engineers can run for office; engineers solve problems by identifying the root cause! Messed up stuff politicians encourage(short list)... -CIA does not communicate with the FBI -FBI management does not beleive their field agents -DEA needs drug users to flourish; otherwise they would be unemployed -Abortion debate; who cares, women will murder their unborn children if they feel the need regardless of the legal implications -a dictator with A bombs in Pakistan is our best friend -monarchy in Saudi Arabia is our best friend; the monarchy in England was not our best friend 230 years ago. Moslems monarchs are so much more appealing than the Anglican ones? Sane ideas Statesmen would encourage... -Free drugs to licensed addicts in asylums; let them kill themselves as fast as possible. An aids infected junkie cost us way too much showing up at the emergeny room every other month. My sister in law treats them! -Munitions laced with pig fat; go ahead and be a terrorist but if we get you first you are not going to get the virgins Habib -When you want to practice Socialism, call it Socialism. Not national health care, Social Security, Welfare, minority rights, free lunch, or some other misnomer that insults my intellignece. The "Pledge" issue is just another in a long line of time wasting distractions that politicians use to pacify the ignorant that they are really looking out for us. Politicians need to rededicate themselves to the core functions of insuring life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; while defending the borders. All of the other shallow window dressing belittles my intelligence.
  17. Gone for 2 days and the thread goes nuts! I am still with Deang and Audioholic. Ed, While the politicians(like surrogate mothers H. Clinton and J. Fonda;not statesmen) are looking out for us by deleting the most offesive, "God" references for us from the "Pledge" and elsewhere; what are they really doing? Some freindly little Socialist Elitist end around. We will figure it out later. The, dare I say, unChristian manner we dealt with Spain and the UC manner we hear LBJ speak on the tapes recently published has NOTHING to do with the intent of the constitution. The Deist foundation of the constitution would not have supported these actions or the actions of McCarthy or Nixon. And they paid their price to fate or maybe God. It is all about power hungry politicians and the DECEIPT we are fed every day. There are thousands of people that think the constitution does not apply to them; the Socialist Elitist ruling class of lawyers is very similar to the Communist party in the old USSR. Different benifits. Different retirement plan. Garunteed job for life. Nice holidays. Cute vacation spots and golf courses for the Military Elite. Socially accepted mistesses/concubines. Certainly Jefferson had his mistress and Franklin was a womanizer; but I think they earned their keep(and most times paid their own way) better than the schmucks we have today.
  18. Stop reading the high school history books; we are not a democracy. It is a "consitiutionally limited republic"! The constitution is there to keep stupid things from happening. Like the majority forcing their will on the minority. For example, things get stupid with the election of a president. We have the electoral college to prevent the masses from getting strange. With the checks and balances written into the constitution it is not the person but the mechanism that is important. There have been real strange characters that stumbled into the White House but could not ruin the mechanism. At least we have term limits in the White house. The socialist elitists with law degrees and no term limits are the ones that scare me. It was not meant to be a carreer! It is a pulic service to be elected the way the founding fathers envisoned. Politicians do not know what is like to have real jobs. Politicians definitely should have kept their hands off of the "Pledge" 50 years ago and now we do it again. Statesman have better things to do with their time. I have a hard time picking out statesmen; they are an endangered species. I think John McCain may be the best one i know of. He hit campaign finance reform so hard he angered his own party. Statesmen are drawn to issues that need attention not issues that are popular. I do not trust people who beleive in no deities, multiple deities, or that their deity tells them my rights are lesser because you do not beleive in their deity. I can tolerate just about everybody else; even Forresthump.
  19. I know "God" was added to the pledge sometime in the mid 20th century. Deleting God from government gives us cub scouts like Gary Condit. I do not have time to look up who said it but paraphrasing it goes like this... "without faith in God(and perhaps the ten commandements) the experiement of the consitutionally limited republic ultimitly fails" I lean more twards Dean on this one. Rick
  20. Them wives just find ways to make us husbands nervous. 12-14 years ago my wife had these horrible dibilitating migranes we thought something was really wrong. It would put her in bed for 3-12 hours at a time. Pretty scary for a while but she seemed to get some hormone thing back in order and rarely gets them. Stay positive, good things happen to those who smile.
  21. I once read that Joe Walsh and Pete Townsend would get togehter on the road and jam until the sun came up. Wouldn't that be alot of fun to sit in on. Tblasing beat me to the Doobie Brothers correction; darn!
  22. And I thoght I was bummed about blowing a tweeter in my RB 5s last week. As you get older you cannot even have a little fun without paying a price...
  23. Forrest, Take an extra "happy pill". There is a thought we may be proactively preventing WWIII. Finally covert ops are major players in the game after many years on the sidelines and they are highly motivated. Kain, Take the time to understand the freedom implicit in a constitutionaly limited republic. India and Turkey pursue their own form of freedom. A risky experiment the UK even shys away from. Hopefully more countries in your part of the world can realize the benefit. Even with all the faults, freedom works here. Be careful as you travel.
  24. J Hoff, You will be amazed when you upgrade your power. High current power is addicting once you have it you can never justify skimping on power.
