  1. True, they don't need bi-amping for the added power...but the opportunity to equalize the speaker is there...The La Scala's bass is shelved down, similar to the Heresy, and bi-amping could get you a better balanced speaker. Kinda seems to me a $6000 pair of speakers shouldn't require fixing, though.[^o)]
  2. First off, no, I don't have la scala II's. Used to, but not now. It's a long story... But when I DID have them, I thought the bass was shelved down too much below the mids below about 200Hz. The x/o is 400 or so, so biamping the woofer and jacking up the level could get you too much in the 200-400Hz octave. So...I'm just wondering if bi-amping is the answer. Maybe dual subs with a relatively high x/o (about 150Hz) would be better. I crossed mine to a pair of Velo subs at 100Hz and got good results. I would like to have tried a higher x/o, but was limited by the subs built-in x/o. I know some you must be bi-amping your la scala's, so fess up! What's workin for ya?
  3. Congrats on the LS2's! I had a walnut pair for about eight months...I do miss the slam and the clarity. Maybe again, someday.
  4. From my perspective, the main thing "wrong" with hi-end audio is that it's too exclusive: b&m vendors are too hard to find, prices are too high, and the whole concept is too far beneath the radar of of many potential customers - partly for the preceeding two reasons. Why is it thus? Maybe PWK was right - 99% of the general population either don't care or don't get it ...or don't care to get it.
  5. I'm glad Onkyo hasn't forsaken the 2-channel crowd completely. Looks like good stuff!
  6. All I can say is "Man you iz an absolute NUT!" - my kind of nut, though!! (and you must have a very understanding, loving and wonderful wife!) Fantastic job! I'd love to hear that set-up!
  7. They definitely moved to the front of the line for me. If I am in the market for new Klipsch, B&W, Arcam, McIntosh or Marantz, I know where I will go first! And that's just some of the audio lines I remember. They also have a huge selection of Mitsubishi, Pioneer, Samsung and Sony video displays. Kaleidoscape media servers, Crestron controllers and Stewart screens. An A/V oasis in a big-box store desert.
  8. I just strolled in on Friday afternoon (7/24/09) after dropping the wife and kids off at the mall across the street. I was asked what I was looking for and I stated that I really wasn't in the market for anything in particular at all. Just killin' time, basically. And you'd think that would have been the end of it right there, but no... I was treated to a full tour of the store and given demos of many of the outstanding products on hand, both audio and video. I heard a wonderful pair of B&W 800's and had the pleasure of experiencing the opening scenes of "Ironman" in their $150,000 home theater room, featuring the complete Klipsch THX Ultra2 system --WOW!. StereoOne in Springfield, Missouri is probably the most nicely appointed AV emporium I've visited. They have multiple "showrooms" of varying sizes that really just feel like a room in a nice home - all outfitted with superlative audio and video. And the staff is knowledgable and gracious. What more could you hope for? They even offered me a refreshing cold beverage, which was greatly appreciated on that warm summer day. I went in hoping to see and hear some heritage speakers, and though I was disappointed in that regard, I still came away impressed. Klipsch should consider themselves fortunate to have such excellent dealers for their products. Now, just get some Heritage out there!
  9. With the La Scala II's, I seldom turned the Onkyos' volume knob past about 9:30. With the Polk's, I would occasionally hit about 10:30. Now, I've got Energy RC-50's that I got a super good deal on from Vanns.com. They are just a wee bit more sensitive than the Polks, but I still hit about 10:30 on the volume when I'm crankin' pretty good. I was not too crazy about the Polk LSi9's. I liked then a lot at first, but with too many recordings they just had no high frequency air. I guess I prefer a fairly stout tweeter, like horns or metal domes... but they are a very well-made little speaker; super solid with high quality drivers. just not my particular cup of tea. The LSi9's are for sale, if you're interested...
  10. Beta, I think you need to log some audition time with a lot of different speakers (not just klipsch) to find what really floats your boat. The only reason you seem interested in cornwalls is because of forum chatter. Considering this is a Klipsch forum, you will find high praise of virtually every klipsch model here. Take it with a grain of salt. Get out there on the street and hit all the audio stores you can and listen to everything that fits the bill in terms of price, size, looks, etc. Then make a decision. If you're really wanting to make a lifetime purchase, that's the only way to go, imo.
  11. YourMusic.com does have great prices, but the selection is pretty limited. What bugs me is that you have to wait for a lot of titles to show up long after they were available everywhere else in the free world. If I want something right now, I usually go to Amazon. Occasionally J&R MusicWorld, but not for a while. And I used to get fair prices on SACD's from Circuit City.com, but of course, not any longer.[] I don't see any advantage to downloads as they currently exist. Quality is generally too low. Cost is too high. And you've got nothing tangible. Nothing to hold in your greasy little mits. No liner notes, no pics, nuttin'! I love CD's!!! (SACD's with a CD layer would be even better if they were still a viable option.)
  12. Sounds about right to me. That was pretty much my exact reaction to a pair of RF63's I heard. Could have been the room or associated equipment, though, at least to some extent. Hey guys, I love dynamics and clarity as much as the next person, but that ain't the whole audio enchilada, ya know.
  13. Now, that's funny...but I must deduct points for spelling. []
  14. I use dBpoweramp and like it very well, other than the fact I have to pay for it.[] I rip to flac and use "smartgain" which keeps the volume pretty much the same from track to track. It's not perfect but its a lot better than nothing. I bought Roxio Creator 2009 for video and tried it with audio, but went back to dBpoweramp real quick.
  15. MJ was an incredibly gifted artist and entertainer. It's too bad our culture throws such ridiculous amounts of money and adulation at people like him. This no doubt contributed mightily to his downfall and early demise. Who among us can say we would not succumb to the perils of wealth and fame if we were in his shoes?
  16. You speak the truth, BigStewMan. Thank you and amen. My wife was a huge MJ fan in her younger days, and remained faithful until the evidence of his misconduct and "weirdness" became overwhelming. Still, the day after he died it kind of hit her. She was very blue all day yesterday. I feel bad for him and his family though I was never a huge fan. Having said that, I will confess to thinking he was one really cool and good-looking dude back in the "Off The Wall" days. Wouldn't we all have liked to be that good lookin' and have those moves and that voice, and all that attention of the ladies? After the news of his passing at such a relatively young age set in, I felt older and more vulnerable than I did before.
  17. A hearty "amen"! If I ever manage to squirm my way back into a set of big ol' horns, it will be La Scala II's (again) with a pair of big-daddy subs. The Velodyne DLS4000's I used when I had La Scala II's actually did a good job, just because I didn't push them that hard, due to the constraints of room size and hearing preservation.
  18. The only Gram I have is "Farther Along" (the best of the FBB collection), the"GP/Grievous Angel" twofer CD and The Byrds' "Sweetheart Of The Rodeo" . But, having said that, I still consider myself a huge fan of his music. I look at him as kind of a latter-day version of Hank Williams. If he had lived a few more years, he may have lived up to that, but maybe not, due to the drug use. All in all, a sad tale of wasted talent, but in the short time he had, he made his mark anyway. I think he really is appreciated, just not on the scale of a Hank Williams, but he didn't do as much as ol' Hank either.
  19. Mine is the older analog dial model. I believe the corrections were for that model in particular. I don't know if the same figures would be accurate for the newer digital digital read-out version or not. I've never seen another set of figures though, so maybe one size fits all -possible, but I doubt it.
  20. You'll like the Onkyo A9555. Mine sounded great driving LS2's. Now it sounds great driving a pair of Polk LSi9's.
  21. ...and don't forget to figure in the "corrections" for the RatShack meter's known low frequency deviations: 125Hz --- +0.5dB 100Hz --- +2.0dB 80Hz --- +1.5dB 63Hz --- +1.5dB 50Hz --- +1.5dB 40Hz --- +2.5dB 31.5Hz -- +3.0dB 25Hz --- +5.0dB 20Hz --- +7.5dB
  22. I have never heard the Palladiums, but my money would be on the La Scala II (w/ he-man subs) and the Klipschorn to sound better. ...but I've been wrong before.[^o)]
  23. He looks kind of pathetic. Too bad they didn't lock his *** up before he killed somebody.
  24. Not that it was a bad review or anything, but WP does tend to rave about most big-ticket products he reviews. At 20K, the P39F certainly qualifies as "big ticket" for most people. And at 20K, why shouldn't they get a good review? If you can't build an outstanding loudspeaker for $20,000, maybe you should be building something else.
  25. I'm glad Kris won. He is a solid talent and can sing practically anything. Adam is very talented, too, but is much more limited, imo. Practically every genre he attempted, he turned into a glam-rock shriekfest, yet was never criticized for it. Did Adam suffer because of his possible sexual preferences? I never heard him state his preference, but if you look like he does, people are just gonna make assumptions. So, he probably did lose more votes than he gained, just due to his "look" -the make-up, clothes, etc. But that was all his choice. He could have toned it down and perhaps he would have won. I'm looking forward to Kris and Danny's first albums!
