  1. Yeah, I've just about settled on some sort of Hafler to replace my beloved Crown. The guy with the DH-200 sent me pics. The thing is in great shape. Says he had it completely serviced two years ago. The only problem is that he already has someone willing to pay his full 200 asking price, whom I'm guessing is a friend or family since he said I was the first to respond to his craigslist post. I told him that I can't really go higher than 150 (trying to keep this on a pretty tight budget, see how far I can get with my money) and if he has someone willing to pay full asking price, to just sell it to them. There's no way anyone in their right mind would take a lower offer than what they're asking when someone else is offering full price, so yeah. I'm not worried about it. I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled for other amps as the come around.. Thanks everyone for all the responses!
  2. Hi Jack, welcome to the forums. I can't really recommend a sub since I haven't used many of them. The Earthquake Supernova I use is hard to find and really hard to find at a good price. Just check ebay and your local craigslist and you might just score a sweet deal on a sub. Look for some suggestions from others as they come in. As for powering the RSXs, look for an A/V receiver. I personally am a two-channel guy all the way, so I only bother with two channel equipment. If you want to though, look into a multi-channel receiver. You can pay for the extra channels now and have room to upgrade in the future. I personally recommend Harman/Kardon receivers since their stuff is what I've been using for about the past 4 years with various amps and speakers and they've worked great and sounded great. No matter what kind of reciever you may end up with, it's easy enough to connect to any computer with a simple 1/8" inch to RCA cord, though that's for audio only. In my experience, for a temporary hook-up, it really isn't necessary to run the video through the receiver too...just a thought. There are much more complicated (and expensive) ways of hooking up a compy to your stereo, but the simple cheap Radio Shack cable has always worked well enough for me. I hope at least some of this helps!
  3. Actually, it's the wife selling the amp. She told me that she has to give the money to her ex-husband a he will not take less than 225 so that was the lowest she would go. I offered 150 fyi. OT real quick: The way I see it on anything like this is that if they take your first offer, it wasn't low enough (a point I learned from my dad) so I always make an offer nice and low. I offered 75 on the DH200 as Mike suggested earlier...still waiting to see how that goes...
  4. Oslo's a loooonng way away. Across the big pond and then some. Nice table though.
  5. Hmm. Thanks fenderbender. I decided to not try and go with the 2400. 225 is too much for me. I just inquired about the DH200, so I'll have to see about that one. Thanks for all the responses from everyone so far!
  6. I just talked to the person selling the Pro 2400. They said they couldn't take less than 225 for it because of a divorce settlement. Is that a good deal? I haven't asked about the DH-200 yet. Still reading up on those. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!
  7. Never said I wanted a P500 to begin with....let me reiterate myself. Locally, on craigslist, there is a Hafler Pro2400 for sale and as well as a DH-200 from a different seller. I want to know if either of these would be a good replacement for the Crown CL1 I have now. This is for use in the home, not in PA. I'm liking the Pro2400, though I know nothing about it, which is why I asked about these amps to begin with.
  8. I'm not looking at using a Hafler for PA, that's what I've got my Crown for. I'm looking at it to replace the Crown in my home stereo. Already, there have been one or two remarks about the bass being lacking, so maybe a Hafler isn't the way I want to go...but I'm still not sure.
  9. Thanks for the response! I assume you're referring to the DH-200. I haven't made an offer on that one yet, but I offered 150 for the 2400 with no response yet. From what I've read elsewhere, Hafler makes good stuff, but I'd like to hear opinions from the people around here too...
  10. Just read through this thread and I must say, absolutely great work! You should be very proud. They look fantastic.
  11. Oh, I see. If you've got the CDT-3650-C, you will probably have to replace the entire speaker since it's coaxial. It'd be hard to replace just the woofer on that, but if you've got the other 3650, you should be able to get away with replacing just the woofer, assuming you can find a replacement...just my quick two cents.
  12. I agree there too. She however, has just the opposite view as she thinks she's buying someones bucket of troubles if she buys used. I don't want her to take the first year depreciation either..... Yeah that is true. We got my brother's car used, had about 77k miles on it, looked to be in great shape, nothing on the carfax report. We found out later it had been hit in the drivers side door and someone fixed it themselves and didn't report it. As a result the door doesn't quite hang straight. Plus, when we got it the synchronizer on 5th (it's a manual) was broken. Luckily for us, they accidentally marked it with a warranty at the dealer we bought it from, so they had to honor that and fix it at their expense, but if they hadn't of goofed. That's a pretty expensive fix, even on an 01 Mustang. We certainly got lucky with my car, but yeah, used cars are always iffy and carfax doesn't always tell you everything. I can certainly see where she's coming from.
  13. True and certainly sometimes unwarranted. My initial thought was he must be pretty young because of the overly macho attitude, vile attacks and lack of trying to have a reasonable conversation. I realize those type of actions can occur with a person regardless of age. Personally i've never seen the point but at 46 i'm no longer a young man. In this case & judging from his lovely self-portrait he appears to be around 30.Anyway, i've already spent too much time concerning this guy but the type baffles me. If I remember aren't you in school? If so I hope it's going well for you. Yeah, probably all of us has spent too much time worrying about it, but to answer your question no, I'm off for winter break. And school has been going well enough. Still waiting to hear back from colleges though. Thanks!
  14. Hi David, welcome to the forums. Sorry if something has gone completely over my head, but what do you mean by 3650?
  15. Here's a favorite of mine. Pic of my ART HQ-231
  16. I've never heard Klipschorns either, but have dreamed about owning them. And I'm not sure about selling my complete speaker arrangement, since I have several of them for different purposes. My speakers are almost exclusively old Infinities, except for my PA and the monitors with my PC. Old RS5s (from the 1980s) are what I've got now. No sub. Crown CL1 amp and a Harman/Kardon HK-3380 stereo receiver. Definitely a unique combination, but it works well. Not sure how much it's all worth though. I've seen RS5s in worse shape than mine, and without good foam like mine have got go for around 300 a pair, more in good shape with good foam. I do love my Infinites though. They sound awesome and aren't enormous (my room is 12x12x8, so I wouldn't really have room for Khorns anyways, but if I did, that's hard to call) so I really don't know. Maybe for my SM-150s instead...yeah, that's it...
  17. I agree. Cal, my thanks goes out to you and your son for your service to our great country! And best of luck to him for sure!
  18. I got this belief from my dad, but I really don't see the point in buying a car new. Case in point, I drive a 2004 Lincoln LS V8. When that car was brand new, base price was around 40K. Not sure how much the options I've got on mine would have added up to, but still, a lot more than 20 for a Camry. When we got the car, had 66 thousand miles, no problems, everything worked (still works a couple thousand miles later), paint in great shape, basically new tires even and we only paid around 12500 for it. Sure it won't get as good gas mileage as the little rice burner (I ONLY get 19-20 mpg city and about 25-26 highwaywith the V8 and a 4000lbs car), but it's a lot more car, certianly much nicer, and drives beautifully. I love it. I'm not saying anything bad about a Camry, I wouldn't know. The point is that you can easily get a nice, slight older one, used for probably half that.
  19. It's a sad time to remember when a loved one passes, especially in the holidays, when we're all supposed to be joyous and happy. My uncle recently passed in a car wreck about two weeks ago. He took care of my 95 year old grandmother on a daily basis. She's still recovering, but it will be hard for her once she realizes he's no longer there. It was hard for all of my family at our annual Christmas get together on Sunday. No one wanted to talk about it, but the thought will forever linger whenever December inevitably comes around again. That's why it's always nice have friends and family, to help each other through tough times... And thanks JB, you're absolutely right.
  20. Hmm. Guys always have to twist everything to relate to flatulance or something like that don't we? HAHA. From what I've seen, the new stadium is nice. Didn't know they hadn't imploded the old one until now...
  21. I'm not very knowledgable on amps outside of, say, anything from Crown so I need a little help on this one from anyone. I currently use a Crown CL1 for the amp in my setup and I love it. Sounds wonderful on my old Infinites, but I need that amp for PA speakers I just acquired. I'm looking at getting a Hafler Pro 2400 to take its place, but don't really know much about it. It's up for sale for $250 right now, but I could likely get it for less. Would that be a good deal and is that amp even worth it? Another DH-200 is up for sale locally as well for $200 (both on craigslist) and same for that amp. Are either of these amps I should look into? I realize that probably no one would know how they sound on my Infinities, but would either one be worth it to get? All input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  22. Just out of curiosity Arky, how old do you think that guy might be? Just wondering since immaturity at the level he reached seems to be associated with people my age, but I don't know. And I'm with skonopa on this one. Was inactive for a little while and seems I missed a lot more than I thought I would, though maybe that's not a bad thing. But I must say (from what I've heard) thank you to Amy for keeping the boards clean! [Y][Y]
  23. My uncle has a pair of BP3000TLs. They're massive and loud and sound good, but personally, I'm not fond of them, or any Def Techs. Just personal preference. Don't get me wrong, they make really good stuff, but I've gotten hooked on vintage Infinity speakers, so I've been sticking to those as of late.
  24. Nice pic Colter [] Those speakers would likely be easily placed in cabinets in a tv stand/entertainment center if that would fit your application. Just leave the middle of the doors empty and cover the openings with some speaker grill cloth. That's what I would do personally. OR I would get in a huge argument and buy bigger speakers, but that's just me [:S]
