  1. Wonder if they refused the free medical attention they get, welfare payments they receive, the education for their kids, in spanish, they get, surplus food they get(although I don't really have a problem with the food, we waste so much), while being here illegally? Yep, those are some pretty hot issues. One of the more important factors is that the labor market must be closed to illegals. What that means is strict enforcement of employers. Until the govt. enforces the rules, will the jobs dry up......... and when that happens....the huge flow will subside as well. Once the govt shows it can impose itself on employers who break the rules and impose heavy fines, illegals will find it much more difficult to find work.
  2. Your gut has this one wrong. Timber is absolutely NOT a factor as it relates to subwoofers unless you use a crazy crossover like 200hz. The only thing you should really be conserned about the phase setting & nulls in the crossover range.
  3. Ya gotta love those pro-illegal alien types marching & demanding free amnesty for everyone who entered our country illegally[]
  4. Both are reputable well made subs, but the SVS is capable of doing much more at the bottom end. If you want a sub for movies, then I'd definitely recommend the SVS. If your main interest is music, then it's probably a tossup.
  5. First of all, you should never plug your sub into your reciever[li] Always plug it into a wall, and a surge protector never hurts either. As for the humming?? It could be caused by a lot of different things. The first thing I would do is make sure I had a quality well shielded wire. That is one of the more common causes of the feedback you're getting.
  6. IMO... Most people are completely missing the boat here on this one. At this point, the most important upgrade you can make is a "Room Upgrade"! It's time you treat your room acoustics!! Once you hang panels at the first reflection points, and corner mount bass traps...... you'll swear you were listening to someone elses system because it will sound THAT MUCH BETTER!! Upgrade your room!! Even the most expensive speakers will sound like a jumbled up mess compared to a modest system in an acoustically treated room.
  7. There is no need to match a sub with speakers[] Any well made sub will sound great with Klipsch.
  8. Positioning is important, but many are missing the boat in this area. Do not overlook the importance for acoustical room treatments, because they are a must if you intend to get the most out of your sound system. You are in desperate need of some bass traps and a few panels at first reflection points[]
  9. Nope... La Scalas will not work as a subwoofer. They'd make great front speakers though, but you'll still want to add a subwoofer. They wont come close to doing what a sub can do at the low end.
  10. I need some help from the Admin. I posted 5 pictures in my folder, but when I went back in to edit and add comments, the pictures arent displayed anymore. It says "folder empty", but it isnt!! LOL I added duplicates and they now show, but now I've got duplicates. Thanks

    RF-82

I comared the RF35s side by side to the RF82s, and I bought the 82s. For me, it was a no brainer because I thought they sounded better. The store was trying to offload the 35's and they were willing to sell them for less, but in the end, I was willing to pay a bit more to buy the 'new and improved' version and buy the 82's. My 2 cents...
  12. Trey, Thanks for the folder. I have some pictures at the 1hr photo as we speak, so I'll have some to post very soon. Thanks
  13. I use the auto setting. I can watch a documentary that discusses the finer points of watching grass grow, and the subwoofer never fails to immediately pick up the signal and turn itself on, and never once has it ever turned itself off when it wasnt supposed to.
  14. Dont forget, you can get the 'brand new' generation and buy RF82s for about $400 each. Me personally?? I'd pay the extra $50 each to get the newest model because the reference line has come a long way since the RF3 was new.
  15. My suggestion would be to darken the walls with a new paint job, and hang some strategically placed 2'x4' four inch thick acoustical panels. In fact, that's my weekend project.....LOL I have 8 panels arriving by FedEx on thursday, and we have a painting party planned for friday[H] Hopefully, the smell wont be too bad for friday night movie night!! If it is, I'll just keep drinking until I cant smell it anymore.

    Narnia

We watched it as a family last weekend, and everyone enjoyed it[] My 8 year old daughter loved it. She even saw it in the theaters with her mother, and she was anxiously awaiting the DVD release so she could watch it again. Considering children played the lead roles, I find it hard to believe that very many children old enough to maintain a two hour attention span would find this movie boring.
  17. I totally agree!!! The Cable vs DSL very 'locality' sensitive. I use cable and can download from a fast source at 4-5 megs speed without any problem anytime day or night. Most DSL users I know are lucky to get a small fraction of that speed. And yes..... anyone who downloads files from the web uses that speed'[] If Im downloading a large file, I prefer not to wait all day for it to arrive.
  18. My 2 cents..... I wouldnt be surprised of HD-DVD wipes the floor with BlueRay. The 'masses' will decide the winner in this battle, and these issues will determine the winner........ 1. Player price 2. Movie title availability Did you notice that quality or technical superiority isnt mentioned? I realize that enthusists who follow and know the technical ins & outs are pulling for BR, but I have a feeling that they are going to get their @sses kicked to kingdom come in this approaching war. As enthusists, we only make up a small percentage of the market, and the masses who flood the big box chains like BB & CC will decide the outcome. My money is on HD-DVD, but I'm not buying until I can buy any DVD new release in one format or the other. I dont want to own a player if only a token percentage of new releases are available in that format. When the day comes that I dont have to pay attention to which studio made any given film to see which format it's in, I'll buy a player that very same day.
  19. These are my observations coming from a person who doesnt listen to music(ever) on his HT that isnt part of a movie soundtrack. The take I get from people in audio forums is that the music connoisseurs tend to gravitate towards the small sealed subs, and the movie buffs like myself tend to lean towards the massive ported subs.
  20. Or, how much beer is enough on movie night? []
  21. I would probably recommend against DIY subs unless your financial position requires it, and having a DIY sub is better than nothing. A lot more goes into building a sub encloser than slapping boards together, and I doubt unless you were extremely knowledgable on the subject, could you could build something that would compete with a top notch SVS, for example. Quality subs often weigh 150+ lbs for a reason, and a lot of thought and expertise goes into the cabinet construction. In fact, they're built like tanks.
  22. Im also researching new theater seating, but I'm still contemplating which way to go. The seats on WWW.4seating.com look very attractive and a couple of their 'three-row' seats in their "Producer" line have peaked my interest, but buying something when comfort is so important without testing it first is a little scary. My current primary seat is an 11 year old Lazyboy recliner that is perfect with regard to comfort. It's a huge cushy rocking recliner that clicks and locks into place at any position. You just rock back a smidgeon, and it clicks in place in whichever position you like. It will also hold any reclining position from sitting straight up, to laying flat on my back.....LOL Now that it's served me well for more than 10 years, I'd like to get matching replacements. I need to decide whether to buy "two" new matching recliners that I can sit in first and know exactly what comfort factor that Im buying up front, or........... buy a set of three connected seats from someone like '4seating.com' and hope I can get enough 'comfort & functionality' questions answered on the phone in advance to know they'll do the job expected of them. If I do buy from them, it would be one of three models in black leather in order of preference..... 1. Producer series-VADER.... I love that name too!! 2. Producer series-Excaliber 3. Producer series-VoyagerII I agree with the other comments that having connected seating is an attractive option. If I go the Lazyboy route, I'd buy two and have an endtable between the two. If I go with the theater seating, I can fit 3 seats in the same allotted space directly in the sweet spot.
  23. I never once had unwanted sounds coming from my SVS. I leave it on 'auto' mode, and you never hear peep from it as it powers on or off. It sounds like your problems might be related to cheaply made product.
