  1. Groomlakearea51, when was the last time you hit Olongapo/Subic?
  2. Last time they offered this, I got one in about 4-6 weeks about 3-4 years ago
  3. Wife is a 3' tall deaf mute with flat head but owns a liquor store.
  4. Posted already in the other thread but 54 with a boy 7 and girl 4. I can not keep up the pace. Oh, I didn't mention how old the wife is....
  5. The HT pass thru is right up my alley, I was using a Niles switcher triggered by the AVR and programmed on my Harmony. this makes it cleaner. BTW, the Peach is intalled and I am digging on the Jolida right now....need phono.
  6. I made it in but was wondering if anyone has received the poster yet?
  7. You guys are Killing me, an electric smoker? Go with at least a Brinkman Pittmaster http://www.brinkmann.net/Shop/Detail.aspx?category=Outdoor+Cooking&subcategory=Charcoal+Smokers+%26+Grills&sku=805-2101-W&seriesname=Pitmaster&seriessku=OUT-1001-9&id=2807
  8. I've been thru 2 winters in Maine, 3 in Iceland, a few months in Alaska. I was called last night to go up to wuzzers area as we had a little problem up there, NO THANKS, there has got to be someone junior...see ya Derrick, stay warm
  9. I just noticed that you have used the word "AMP" when describing the problem. What exactly is the unit (amp, preamp, receiver, make/model?) If it is indeed a seperate amp then input should make no difference as this would be control by the preamp.
  10. Welcome, I don't have the same speakers but I would think the thought process is the same. Budget? Receiver, intergrated amp/preamp or preamp & amp, solid state or tubes? Now get your hands on as many different ones that you can and buy what sounds best to you. Sorry no magic answer but sifting that a few thousand threads here will show some favorites within each type/cost level. Spend some time, enjoy the chase. Buy the way it sounds like a bad input selector the way you describe it, can you plug the source into another input and try that. In other words, if you are using a CD player plugged into "CD IN" try putting it into aux 2 or tape 1, anything other than phono in.
  11. A bit of a spin on this topic; oldest member with youngest child. I'm 54 with 7 and 4 year olds.
  12. I hope I'm not out of line here but....last night I bought a Peach from a forum member and then started looking for a phono stage. I emailed Mark and asked for his recommendation. Who else would know better? Mark replied that he had a number of folk asking for a new Tercel and his words were that he would very likely build some more based on demand (and that current demand was right in there, my words here). I post to say if you want a Tercel contact him through his Juicy Music site. Selfish, yea but, I want him to build me one. I did not ask permission from him to post this, sorry Mark.
  13. CB, take a good puff of the cigar and imagine this: take a metal dust pan, turn it upside down and mount below your pre-amp. Now take some ducting and attach to the dust pan handle (it's hollow), run the ducting to some place where the noise will not bother you and attach duct to wooden box where exhaust fan is mounted. This will pull away the hot air collected under the preamp. Now your job is to find something to replace the "dust pan" with. Remember converging/diverging ducts as related to pressure and velocity. Just don't waste one of your humidors!
  14. Thanks James. Tonight I am routing out pockets in the storage area rails/stiles (can't ever remember the right term for the uprights) for hidden self closing hinges. This will allow the pieces to open to exchange interior inserts (drawers, media storage, etc) and then close back. Since I don't have the time now, I will leave the flat black "Vs" in place to mimic Belles and fab inserts later.
  15. nothing a good layer of heat absorbing kryptonite wouldn't cure . May have to create a space, if you swapped with pre-amp you'd be toasting the CD player. Seriously, if you could create a non-intrusive heat collection tray under the pre-amp and then duct the forementioned fan drawing ambient air from the room across collected hot air and exhausting it away.
  16. Personal opinion, no fan needed in this setup. If you were to employ fan(s) it would have to be blowing across the amp instead of being used to exhaust (thought I was gonna use that other word, didn't ya?) as you don't have any plenum to create the low pressure area.
  17. As you can see I've moved it into place but still working on the "V" inserts and front trim. Thanks again to all that helped out here.
  18. Doesn't it go something like: manual platter (spin by hand), motorized, motorized with wood vs plastic?
  19. I guess I'll have to go against the grain here. I recently heard Cornwalls (Is) for the first time and I do love them. Actually trying to make a deal to obtain some, BUT as my situation dictates that HT takes priority and IF HT is the primary purpose of the system I would chose all matching Fortes. I had some Forte IIs for a short while and the bass was not lacking, HT mode would probably unload them anyway, sending the LFE to the sub, and the absolute match across the front would be the cat's meow.
  20. Welcome, you have started a long journey lil' grasshopper. I don't have the experience with these particular models to help you out specifically (the other boys will be along any minute now to help) but I will second the salesman's opinion that the center is very important. Timbre or 'same sound' is no doubt a must have in HT mode. Get the info here and buy what these guys recommend. I personally traveled the non matching center road and once I hit on it I knew that I had wasted a lot of money on things I shouldn't have. Not my first time either mind you. Seriously, listen up, check out all you can in the range and enjoy. Again, stick around; many, many years of Klipschdom expertise around these parts. Look at it his way, great deal on what you wanted so far so you can "afford" to get what should be in the middle.
  21. James, thanks for the encouragement but I am below the mean so even after 14 measurments the cuts are wrong! Seriously, I am getting there. The smooth cuts are made and even with constant engineering changes I hope to get to staining the inside tomorrow night. I have made the front doors of the two storage units match the "Vs" of my Belles with one having storage for 64 DVDs and the other storing the Wii (all other electonics are located remotely) and drawers to hold remotes, batteries, etc. After getting the hard to access ares stained I will assemble, install door switches and lights, assemble and then start the outside staining. I added 12 felt bottomed adjustment feet to handle unlevel flooring and for minute adjusts if required. looking at covering visible door surfaces with a cloth to resemble Belle fabric. I had mocked up 'lazy susan' turnables for the media storage but I decided not to over engineer it and with 13" wide storage the vertical racks are more efficient. Studing best way to recess Wii sensor and my remote IR sensor into the trim. Thanks to all I getting closer. I would show progess photos but my garage embrassment prevents it! Mike
  22. Who the heck told me I could do this? Oh yea that would be me. I've cut this SOB three times and it's still too short...I have a plan. It needed a hardwood base anyway. Got the garage cleaned out from the flooring install so the wife could get the mom-mobile inside, no more frost on the windows for school trips. IT WILL WORK, it will work
  23. Good news, Bob! I glad its up but sad I'm not there to hear it. By the way, thanks for turning me on to Sam McClain. I got my XRCD today and have had about an hour by myself to listen (well, I think the neighbors might have heard a note or two also as I opened up the back doors to the lake and cleared the carbon out of the ol' Mc). I never knew XRCDs were out there, BIG difference with a sample of one.
  24. I got mine a couple of years ago and then went to have it framed, GONE, empty tube! Never did find out where it went. Maybe I'll try again.
