  1. ABB "whole house" panel box is good, I've had one since I moved in. i never had a blow out on anything during the wild surges and drops that Forida seems to be noted for..... However.... I like to turn my stuff off with some time allowed when the crap hits the fan. I also want really clean power and a true sine wave feeding the stuff, so an UPS is the solution that I need. It also gives me the capability of phones and radio until the storms let up for me to start the generator. But, it's got to be good, real good, with 800 joules rating or above..., provide me with at least 20 minutes of run time. Those types, however, cost money..... alot..... Tom, please expound on the joules business, within the context of such a device in line after a whole house system. Also, if you could, talk about voltage variances, how to stabilize those (the Florida problem...), and sine wave output vs simulated sine wave output.
  2. The biggest problem with defining a "dealer" is probably knowing true intent. Even a well meaning post by someone who is otherwise a "dealer" can cause problems. Is it really a commercial advertising scheme when a used stereo equipment store lists a single Klipsch item (fair price, etc.), but without "tags" or links "for my other items see bla-bla @ wherever.com"? Stricly interpreted? Yes. Conditional interpretation? Maybe not. Personally, I'd like to see BEC list what he's got for Klipsch in his "stockpile" without going to eBay, etc. But from the strict interpretation standpoint, Bob is a business, and he is selling parts, albeit replacement parts, or non-stock modified parts, etc.) for Klipsch. Sometimes common sense, and the overall value to the Forum members, should be inserted in the decision making process regarding items for sale. Then again, once the door is cracked, it will get further wedged open to general commercial advertisements, etc. How do you solve that problem? How do you differentiate between the purveyors of items, and the folks that otherwise have good stuff for the members? Sub-forum for "vendors", as long as it's audio related? Sort of a "yellow pages". I don't know. Maybe Amy will chime in at some point with some ideas, etc.
  3. As I asked my wife, "You want a chrome plated what!!!??" [6]
  4. Groom, That really raises the question.....How do some get by with it and others don't...? There are a couple on here that blatently "Advertise" their services (either directly or through shills) and nothing is ever said, one that i know of is shunned openly (NO COMMENT on this) and some others are just overlooked. Tis nothing fair game anymore....? Good question..... Not that you would want to do so, but if you go back through my garage sale history, I at the least, have NEVER advertised my work for "sale". I'm rather religious about it. For those members of the Forum to whom I have provided a rebuild service of any sort, I specifically tell folks to NOT "shill" me.... ever.... If they like my work, fine, and I appreciate a kind comment every once in awhile. But I do not want anyone to send me customers as I don't need them. Like I said, it's a hobby, not a profession. I don't need the bazillion emails a day, and..... I always, without fail, and consistently tell everyone who contacts me about a rebuild job that they are better off reading the threads and doing it themselves. They can call me or email me and I'll help them, but my #1 goal is for them to take my knowledge and experience and use it for themselves. I tell them everything and reference the DIY threads. In most cases, they thank me and head off on their own and every once in awhile, I'll get a thank you email. That's fine with me. [Y] As for Fritz's comment...... any garage sale reputation I have probably has to do with the fact that when I sell something, I price it fairly, and make sure the buyer is a happy camper...... 14000000000 posts is immaterial. And if you do the research, my friend, you will see that my Forum "time" is only in the mornings and certainly most of that time is spent in other sections than garage sale..... Post count has nothing to do with my reliability.
  5. So you say!!! [6] I will resist the temptation..... I will resist..... Dtel or fini? Help!!!! LOL!!!!! [H]
  6. That's a Chevy vs Ford analogy question, LOL!!! The Forte's, however, likely would be a better choice when SWMBO let's the chain a little more loose and you want to sell ortrade up to the LaScala's for which you presently pine. []
  7. "easy to drive", that would be the case!!!! LOL!!! [Y][Y[[Y]
  8. [Y][Y][Y] On a related note, I was at my son's school district solo yesterday. He did very well with an "excellent" rating for the trumpet. He's quite the musician, and I'm happy as my musical capability, vis-a-vis intruments, has been described as about as competent as a monkey with a kazoo... What was interesting, however, was the band director's comments about French Horns.... A dying breed, says he; expensive instrument, and very tricky to play. Huhm... A band or orchestra relegated to using only the least expensive instruments bodes ill for the future of fine performances of the works of Pyotr and the classic gang. Oh well, back to my daily didgeridoo practice..... [H]
  9. Sorta' what I do. I've rebuilt 40-50 pairs of Heresy's since 2006. But I NEVER "advertise", even if it's still a hobby. That's the rule, 'cause once I post a FS: Rebuilt Heresy's, Grills, etc., then I am basically a business advertising on the Forum.
  10. Maybe Amy is out there with...... T-shirts!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!! [H]
  11. Is there a correlation between teddy bears and serial killers? I wonder.... [6] Go for it!!! []
  12. Flippers are flippers..... But if what they are flipping is also listed elsewhere in conjunction with a business (brick or cyber), then they are a business and should not be allowed to post in the Garage Sale area. Problem is, how do you know? Unless they get "weak" and post a link or reference their true colors, so to speak, there's no way to really (objectively...) say they are a business. The sellitnow guy is a gray area (pretty dark...) but the conditions and parameters for the sale appear to be benevolent. His method of sales, however, certainly sparked the controversy. Sometimes you have to temper the outrage, or the "black and white", with the potential benefit to Forum members if the prices are reasonable, etc. It's a weird situation, to be sure, and what one sees as a direct violation, may be a great resource to another.... Subjective it has become....
  13. I don't recall, but it should work provided the SAHF model you have is the correct impedance (~8 ohms).
  14. Sansui 7900's, 999's (my preference), or if you want to get expensive, a 9900...... Almost "tube like". All metal construction, nuilt like a tank and there are still some techs around to go through them.
  15. [Y] and that's why what SF said and discussed regarding true sine wave UPS's is valid. You get what you pay for. If it's isolated, and clean, and is a true sine wave, it's gonna' be expensive.... Trust me.... I know (LOL!!!) Tom, thanks for the brief discussion on the house system and why the ground is the key. You might want to expound on what isolated power UPS's actually are designed for and why studios may need them.
  16. It's supposed to be a very long range sniper rifle that can be mounted and remotely fired. A good example of such a system can be seen in the Day of The Jackal movie. Effectively, the largest caliber sniper system is a 20mm Croatian godzilla.....
  17. I believe that we will see the CD's for at least another 4-5 years. They have no choice but to cater to the bazillions in the market that simply will not ever use "downloads" or online services.
  18. Gee, Dee... and all this time I thought you were getting ready to be called an Infidel!!! LOL!!! []
