  1. I agree with Mr. McGoo for the most part. I think the difference between the rw 12 and the RSW 15 would be more dramatic and would be my suggestion especialy if you have at least a 50% movie preference. Then the next upgrade I would move the RF-5's to surround duty and get the RF-7's . IMHO, you will be done upgrading your speakers. []
  2. Go for it. If it works for you, great.[] I still contend, looking at the spec sheet that the difference between it and the Denon will be considerable. I know going from the Yamaha RXV 800 to the Denon AVR 3803 was for me. I feel the difference is in the power consumption and what it takes to get the most out of your speakers. That Panny is "Energy Compliant," which isn't a good thing when you are talking about driving 5 speakers and a subwoofer to their potential. Will it allow your speakers to make sound--sure. Good luck regardless.[]
  3. Thanks for posting that link.[] I purchased a pair of RB-5's when ultimate electronics went out of business. I was planning on using them as rear surrounds (7.1) in my bedroom but it was too much (for my wife). I have them in a 2-channel set up and they sound great. If I found them before the RB-75's that I'm using as rears in my main HT, Klipsch would have lost that sale. (BTW: RB-75's are good speakers but not markedly better than the RB-5's IMHO)
  4. Now that I understand the question---Bono. I am pretty enough to be him.[] Just not as cool.[H]
  5. I love Sarah McLachlan's voice as well (watched her latest concert on digital cable channel INHD2 last night...damn she's good). But dude...why would YOU want to sing like a girl?[] I don't think you'd be pretty enough for such a beautiful voice! LOL.[] A Genie grants your wish for.......a singing voice and it can be anybody's voice. Whose voice would you chose (and why if you feel the need)? I took the question to mean a voice singing To me. [] Now that I am reading other peoples responses I guess I misunderstood the question. [:$]
  6. My dad was a fabulous joke teller and he said if you have to explain your joke, it's just not funny. I guess this one fits into that category. [:|] Suffice it to say that Denver has made the news lately...
  7. If you were stationed at Lowry you probobly didn't. [] {edit: My Joke has to do with a more recent occurrence since the time you were there}
  8. I am glad this got to be a 2 pager. Every time I scrolled down past her picture... {edit: never mind } If you squint she looks REAL hot. I also see her house is in Denver, the "Mile High City" where evidently having the ability to squint has become legal. []
  9. I think Good guys is having a "going out of business sale." Don't plan on them being to responsive. The RC-25 or 35 would be the one's you'd want. I agree about hooking it up and see what you think. Another option would be to be on the look out for any of the above on sale on line. I also think if you can find an RC-3 (discontinued--but an excellent center that would be my first choice in that price range) An overkill situation, but definitely attractive would be to see if Good guys has an RC-7 deeply discounted. [] Good luck.
  10. I have posted my opinion and experience about going from Yamaha to Denon numerous times. Yamaha makes a good product but I feel Denon is a step above. If you do a word search for "Denon " you will get several of my responses along with some other folks experience.[] I highly recommend the Denon AVR-4802 R or the AVR 3803 in that order if you can find a reliable used or refurbished dealer. If you are looking to buy from a retailer, the Denon AVR-3805 is a good unit but at full retail a little to "dear", if you know what I mean. [] It's been out some time and you should bed able to find a good deal on one. Those are the 3 receivers that I own and like. I have no experience with the HK's but Klipschsters seem to praise them. The added advantage on the Denons is that you can add a second set of side surrounds which is an extremely cool feature. Good luck .[Y]
  11. Sarah McLachlan--She brings a tear to my eye when I hear her sing.[A] That being said, when my wife and I first started dating she sang some U-2 lyrics in the middle of the night, in complete darkness( Sleep, Sleep tonight, and may your dreams be realized...) That was the moment I fell in love [].
  12. I agree that Danny Elfman is a Genius. There are several movies he saves with his scores and several more that he enhances. "Deadman's Party" is going through my head right now.[]
  13. Have you tried setting your speakers to "Large." [] Just kidding. I have to disagree about Brad Pitt. "******" is one of my favorite movies and I thought he did an exceptional job in Troy. I also thought his role in "Legends of the Fall" was admirable. I can't think of a movie that he wasn't convincing in; although I didn't like "The Mexican." I can understand your opinion on Johnny Depp, My first date with my wife was to see "Edward Scissorshands." When the 10th Anniversary DVD came out we watched it again in our Home Theater. We realized it must have been true love because we both thought it was a great movie when we first saw it--WTF were we thinking![]
  14. She could if she plays her cards right.[] I wonder if she would consider a rental agreement...[:^)]
  15. Welcome to the forum mcbirdman, I never thought any of my Denons ( I have 3) sounded bright with my speakers. I have never heard of the Denon 3300 so it must be quite an old unit (or I'm not up to date[]). If you are looking to buy new I can recommend the Denon AVR3805 which has Room EQ and a delay function. If you are looking to get away from Denon the HK's have a good rep on this forum. You also may want to use the search function on the forum to get more good ideas. Good luck.
  16. Hey Jack, I still have only the 3 "mini" Home Theaters. My wife said we have to either move or I have to build another room if I get a 4th. Well...What she actually said was "You can't bring any more speakers in this house!" []
  17. I didn't say I can't play CD's. I don't play CD's because I like video with my aural stimulation. When I first set up my HomeTheater I played a few CD's from my ancient collection but became a DVD concert junkie after my first multichannel experience. The first DVD I played was "Rattle and Hum" and from that point on I have kept buying DVD's and don't even go into the CD section anymore. Given that Sarah hasn't left my entertainment rotation and on your recommendation I may have to venture over there again. I'm jonesin' for something new. [] I have several Peter Gabriel SACD's and all his DVD's, which at one time or another have stayed on the rotation as well. I equate the experience I have appreciating Sarah with how I feel listening to Bono's voice bellow through my system. Both highly inspired. [A] As much as I like U2, there was a little to much crowd reaction on ther concert DVD's for my prolonged listening pleasure as of lately. Now that I think about it, Peter Gabriel replaced U2 when "Secret World" came out and Pete may be my most played male artist in the last several years. Insofar as female vocalist that aren't in the mainstream is concerned, I also like Jewel. Her DVD "Live at Humphrey's by the Bay," has some inspired songs, and her playfulness makes her seem like the girl next door (with a really good voice). Thanks for the CD recommendations. I will post back if you converted me back to the 2 channel realm--However I think I may be to civil to post in their forum. [6]
  18. I am a Denon fan (can you tell[]) and I also own the AVR-3805. I purchased it because I couldn't find a 2nd AVR 3803 for my business Home Theater. The Room EQ features are nice and if you can find it discounted would be a good option. The AVR 3803 is almost the same machine without the Room EQ & Denon Link (which comes in handy if you own the DVD-3910) and would have plenty of power to drive your speakers without all of the afore mentioned bells and whistles. That panny you were looking at weighed less than 10 lb. and in no way could deliver the power it claims. I don't buy on the Internet, but maybe someone else can help you out. Good Luck. (BTW: In my main HT I have the DenonAVR-4802 R, THX ULTRA 2 receiver and THAT would be my first choice if you can find one.)
  19. For those of you that like female vocalists and want a REAL treat, pick up Sarah McLachlan's "Afterglow Live" DVD. If you like Sarah and already own the disk I would like to hear your opinion. I picked this up about 6 months ago after I saw her on the "Lilith Fair" DVD, and fell in love with her voice and personality (not to mention she's easy on the eyes). My favorite song on both DVD's is "Building a Mystery." This song always brings a tear to my eye for awesome, inspired song writing, that is delivered with finesse. I like the way she sings it on "Lilith Fair" because it was new to her at the time and you could tell she enjoyed singing it. On the "Afterglow," DVD rendition of the song, she is more mature and the disk is better recorded--sheer sublime [A]. There's not alot coming out of the side surrounds on this disk (DD 5.1) but my three front speakers really do her voice and her band justice. Don't let anyone tell you that Klipsch speakers don't reproduce female vocals well![6] There are also some songs on "Afterglow" which I didn't realize were hers that I enjoyed hearing on the radio (Angel and I will Remember You). Out of 22 songs, at least 16 of them show off Sarah's talent (even a rendition of the Beatles song "Blackbird') and I can play them over and over again. Included in with the DVD is a bonus CD, but I can't tell you much about it because I don't play CD's anymore.[H]
  20. I think you bought a cheap receiver that no way is going to be anywhere near their 100 watts per channel rating. [] I also don't think you are going to get the most out of your very nice HT. speakers. I followed your posts. They were right in telling you about the Denon 3805 but if you could find the AVR-3803 it would be more bang for your buck if you are on a budget ($500 used) and easily 3 times the receiver that you bought. Since you asked [] {edit: on the bright side it doesn't use much electricity []}
  21. Welcome to the forum Pete, Bigger is better in my book--I would go with the S-3's. I would have said go towers all of the way around, but you may look into upgrading your whole system someday and those may not retain their market value (bang/buck speaking) That being said, I am very fond of my first Synergy Home Theater. For the price they are hard to beat.[] Good luck! {edit:I would NOT go out and buy a Walnut Belle (pictured in above post) for your center because of a number of problems that would create--Upgrading your OTHER speakers could bankrupt you. []}
  22. Welcome to the forum BobbyNga. [] Yamaha makes good products but IMHO, the Denons are a step above. I didn't think so until I had to move my Yammi RXV-800 into a larger room and couldn't get it loud enough before it made my speakers sound bright and hurt my ears. I exchanged it with a Denon AVR-3803 and was amazed at the difference. The Denons are a little more expensive, but IMO well worth the cost. I also like hooking up 2 sets of side surrounds which the Denons allow. FWIW, I replaced my 3 Yamaha HT Receivers with Denons and I am not going back. I feel the best bang for your buck receiver out there is the Denon AVR-3803. HK makes a good product as well. Try doing a word search on this forum with Denon or Yamaha and you will find several hits and recommendations. We all have our opinions [] Good luck.
  23. I like the members of the group, apart and separate. IMHO, Phil Collins is a very talented "Pop" artist and a good drummer--Peter Gabriel is an Artistic Genius![]
  24. Welcome to the forum whatever 55, I have the RF-7's in a HT setup and they sound GREAT! The best suggestion I can give you is make sure your speakers are toed (turned []) in toward your listening position. When you take the grill off you should be able to see the back of your horns (tweeters on the top). Then I would mess around with the volume knob until the neighbors come over complaining. When you reach that point, decide if you wish to invite them over or turn it down a few dB's. Good Luck []
  25. Welcome to the forum tomdeg, There are no disks available in "7.1." The few disks in DTS-ES (which have a separate or "discrete" sixth channel) and Dolby Digital EX (which have a matrixed 6th channel from the "4th and 5th" surround channel) both sound better coming from 2 speakers (rear) for most peoples situations and preference (how's that for a broad statement []). In my home I enjoy having rear speakers (setup below in signiture). Here is a comment I made at the AVS forum the other day to a similar question: 5.1 Vs 7.1? Quote: Originally Posted by BuckNaked So if I'm only set up for 5.1, does ES create a "virtual" 7th channel? I know LOTR is 6.1 ES, and I'm just wondering if I'm missing something with a 5.1 set up. Thanks Here is where I may get into trouble. I saw the first LOTR in 5.1 and was FLOORED! What a great Movie. I then later updated my HT to a 7.1 (or 9.2--I have an obscene system and the Denons allow for 2 sets of side surrounds) and watched the LOTR extended version. The easy answer is yes I heard some discrete *stuff* coming out of my rear speakers and enjoyed the movie again. But it wasn't a "blow you away," kind of experience as watching it the first time in 5.1 The easy answer is yes you are missing something, but are you missing something very important, IMHO-No. The hard question to answer, is it worth the justification of buying 2 more speakers? It depends on your room and budget.
