The church organist, Was in her eighties And had never been married. She was admired for her sweetness And kindness to all. One afternoon the pastor Came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room. She invited him to have a seat while she prepared tea. As he sat facing her old Hammond organ, The young minister Noticed a cute glass bowl Sitting on top of it. The bowl was filled With water, And in the water Floated, of all things, a condom! When she returned With tea and scones, They began to chat. The pastor tried to stifle his curiosity About the bowl of water and its strange floater, but soon it got the better of him and he could no longer resist. 'Miss Beatrice', he said, 'I wonder if you would tell me about this.' Pointing to the bowl. 'Oh, yes,' she replied, 'Isn't it wonderful? ”I was walking through The Park a few months ago And I found this little package On the ground. The directions said To place it on the organ, Keep it wet and that it would prevent the spread of disease. Do you know I haven't had the flu All winter.”
  2. Cool post Ben. The EV has always been a favorite of mine. A couple of years ago I bought out an estate of a real speaker collector. In the lot were 5 EV Patricians and a pair of the 30" woofers. They're a monster driver. Fragile looking and the cones are actually made from a foam material. The reason for the foam was the size and paper wouldn't do the job. Two of the Patricians had the Ionovac Purple Gas Tweeters-Dukane transformers along with T-350s in them. I did a lot of research on them and contacted a few "experts" and was told PWK was instrumental in the Patrician sound chamber design similar to the Khorn. This info was NOT sent to me documented but the feller I talked to seemed to have good knowledge of the Patrician history. I was also informed that our Military did some testing with the same 30" woofer to use the LF as a possible weapon. I was sent a scan of some literature to that effect. I wish I still had it but it was on my old PC destroyed by lightening. Can anyone verify any of this? I'd sure like to know more. Harry
  3. The 2.1 are great sounding speakers. I liked them so much I bought 3 pairs in less than 2 years even when they kept breaking down. No problems though. Klipsch was kind enough to send me to Radio Shack to get the DIN plug from a Playstation since they couldn't seem to get the new cables, volume controls, or any other part from China. I'd recommend buying them even though I was forced to use my old BA I've had for 10 years with no problems. Too bad they don't sound anywhere close to the Klipsch. I just gave in and listen to my old Heritage U.S.A. made speakers that are 30 years old. Yep, I ain't over this one yet. Harry
  4. Happy Birthday Amy. Best wishes to the prettiest forum moderator around. Need a spankin? Harry
  5. The "S" is probably a faded out "B" and the old fart can't see squat. Getting old sucks!!! CRS (can't remember squat) CSS (can't see squat) and DGAF. I'll let you figure that one out. How's it going Jay? Give me a call. Harry

  7. Tom, PE carries the poly covers in 4" and 5". I think yours uses the 4" http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=260-383 Harry
  8. Michael,You met her at the Pilgrimage. She has a cute cousin the same age and a killer GF that's just as freaky as she is. I love Robert Cray but between the two of them I'm getting burnt out. Harry
  9. I'm pushing 60 real hard and one of my GFs has got into audio. She originally made fun of my music and called me an old a..hole or dinosaur etc at times. She would listen to the rap and hip-hop stuff and it would drive me insane what she calls music. I refused to let her music play on my system. (sounding a lot like my dad as I get older) Lately I've noticed she's listening to a lot of the music I listen to. I've even noticed she's searching the web for a lot of the music I like for her own collection. Her little CD boombox ended up being non-acceptable for her after listening to my systems and she's had me help put her a system together. Now she's not an experienced "audiophile" but she's got a pretty good system I helped put together for her. I gave her the auditions for different gear and here's what she's chosen for her system. Altec Santana II, Dynaco ST-70, Dynaco Pas-2 (courtesy of Josnich), Denon DCM-777, Nakamichi BX-125, and Technics SL-D2 with AT12s. Not bad. She picked all this out herself with numerous listening sessions. It took her over a month of auditioning all the different gear. Yes, and she's constantly upgrading. Funny, she burnt her forearm on the ST-70 when I had it set up here and I thought she'd leave my gear alone but she loved the sound of the tubes and she bought it. She does leave the cage on now though. She's making comments now about the quality of her cd's and complaining about not liking the recording quality of most of her discs. You can't take her to the Goodwill or garage sales as she will spend a lot of time going through vinyl with a magnifying glass. She's even got her friends listening to her system and a lot of the older rock, blues and jazz now. They're all getting into better systems and their music choices are changing a lot. She's even bringing them over to listen to certain music selections at my place. It's actually getting to be a nuisance at times. Instead of the "thumping" thuds of subwoofers in their Honda Civics and Low Rider S-10's blowing you out when they pull in the drive I'm hearing Robert Cray, Clapton, Etta James, etc now. (If you haven't summised by now she's considerable younger) Fenderbender, let your wife call you an old Foggie. I'm betting the "good stuff" will rub off and the comments will cease as her introduction to different music is played. I no longer hear the "comments" about my listening preferences but I do hear "who's that", "man that guy can play guitar", or the dreaded "can I borrow that album" (always answered with a resolute "NO" of course) Sometimes music will bridge the gaps and give you more in common. Harry
  10. I personally would love to see a manufacturer produce a good sounding tube. The "NEW" technology, materials, and manufacturing processes hopefully will produce some tubes worth listening to. I'm afraid though that the new tubes will sound flat and sterile. Just because a computer program and new manufacturing technics are used does NOT assure a quality tube for audio use. There are so many variations out there of the new issue tubes and I've yet to hear ANY of them I'd spend ANY of my money on. I guess to make sure you don't miss the sound of a good vintage tube is never listen to them. I think that's why so many people will use the re-issues. They've never given a good listen to a good vintage tube. Money vs need is definitely the reason most of these re-issues exist. I don't use Ebay or Agon to purchase good tubes. I can't afford it or won't. I hit garage sales, auctions, and "wheel and deal" for my good tubes. I go as far as to purchase extremely large lots of tubes just to build up my "stash" of quality tubes. It's a P.I.A. to sort through hundreds or thousands of tubes but worth it. Best of luck to Blackburn in coming out with a quality "valve". Wouldn't it be nice to see a quality sounding tube hit the market? That would knock the crapola out of the inflated prices demanded for tubes. Harry
  11. MM, Seeing as how the BA100s are sealed cabinets and there's a lot of pressure on the foams I doubt a repair will hold or even properly work. The surrounds on most of these were only good for 8-12 years or so at most and should be replaced and the woofers resealed in the cabinet. If the foams completely split or even partially split and let the cone "short out" against the frame it's like shorting your speaker wires together with the amp on. Not a good idea. Best advice here is replace the foams on the A100s. The 10" woofer is an easy repair. Glue removes easily and the voice coils have more than enough play in them to "float" fit the new surrounds. This is NOT a woofer I'd patch up the surrounds on. Replace the foam. Properly repaired and sealed up they are a good sounding speaker. If you need help I'd be glad to walk you through it. Nothing to it actually. Best of luck, Harry
  12. Congrats on the nice speakers. Someone say fishin'?
  13. Ebay wants it all. Good corporate strategy but typically bad for the "little guy". Ebay has no serious competition to keep them in line and until they do you'll see them stick everyone they can anyway they can. Harry
  14. Don't wait. Grab 'em while you can. Harry
  15. "Better Living Through Chemistry"
  16. Great music from Billie Holliday. I've got a half dozen CDs of her recordings. Even a couple in HDCD that sound great. Great find. Mono set up is a must for these old treasures. I was lucky enough to score 4 of Mallette's cd recordings from vinyl at the Pilgrimage. He does some fantastic work. Harry
  17. What kind of amplification are you running? How much power are you using to push your speakers? I like the Chorus 1 or 2 but they definitely are NOT a small speaker nor is the Forte 1 or 2. Size is relevant. The Chorus 2 seems to shine on the bottom end with a bit more volume than most listen to for average listening. Forte 2 is a bit better in that respect. RF-7 is a good speaker and size compromise isn't bad but they like power also. They're fine without some monster pro amp running them but a strong amp will "wake them up" Since you personally don't like to use a sub (I'm in agreement) you may not like the sound of the rear passives on the sealed cabinet systems. My apartment room layout did NOT like passives. I had an open rear on one speaker side and it was flat sounding compared to the other side. To me front ported speakers are much easier placements. My house had hardwood flooring and high ceilings with glass 180 degrees behind the speakers. With some, actually a of lot help from a forum buddy MAS (R.I.P) I was able to sound treatment the room for good (decent) sound. A two way speaker seemed much clearer in that room than any three way I tried in it. I actually ended up using Altec Valencias in it when finished. Not a small speaker either. As always, if you're lucky enough to be close enough to some kind souls that would demo different options for you it would give better answers to your listening preferences. More info will give you more input too. Since you're also going to use them for a 2 ch HT I'd go as big as I possible could. Compromises suck eh? If a $500 figure is in your area I believe I'd have to choose the Forte 1 first and then the Forte 2. It would be easier to find them in that price range if you're lucky and/or patient. Your money, ears, preferences. Harry
  18. Mike, Just give it a good cleaning and it should take care of it. It's going to be hard to get to the back of all the controls on the 1080. Do the rear of the pots and controls and then do the shafts and switches from the front also. You have to do both to get it clean. Do not use the Caigs Deoxit or GC Deoxid on the tuner plates or tuner area. Non residue only on the tuner section. LET COMPLETELY DRY FOR AT LEAST A COUPLE OF HOURS BEFORE PLUGGING IT BACK IN. ASSUMING YOU KNOW TO UNPLUG IT FIRST. I'M NOT TRYING TO BE A SMARTA$$ BUT I'M ALWAYS AMAZED AT PEOPLE WORKING ON ELECTRONICS STILL PLUGGED IN AND POWERED UP. Use a good non-residue cleaner first, then give it a light shot of Caigs Deoxit or GC Deoxid. Same results but the GC is about 1/4 the price of Caig. Best of luck, Harry
  19. This is normal for the receiver to cut out. With or without the speaker wires attached. There is an inherent problem with the "80" series of Pioneers. There are 2 STK chips. They are marked "Darlington" on them. They're the two black "ovals" about 3" long, 3/8" thick, and have nine (if memory serves right on the 1080) pins that are soldered to the power board. They control the output, meters, and your protect circuit. When they quit on this model the meters usually "peg". They control one channel each. They're easily replaced and relatively inexpensive. They are also what causes the majority of the distortion in the Pioneers of that line. They're why you can't push the volume control past about 10:30 position before it starts "muddying" up bad. There is a good replacement part available for these that will clean up the sound on them at higher volumes. They're less than $15 each as of about 90 days ago. Bottom line is, it ain't broke so don't fix it. It's also not a good idea to push the receiver with no load on it. If you are having intermittent issues with it cutting out it would be a good idea to clean the switches and controls on it. Pay particular attention to the "loudness" switch. If it hasn't been cleaned before it's definitely time now to do a "maintenance" cleaning on it. Harry
  20. Heckofa dog OB. You trained it well. All I could train my dog to do was hide behind the couch when the bill collectors showed up. Hey, the dawg could sure do the "duck and dodge" come pay up time. Harry
  21. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't OB's Alvin and the Chipmonks collection a boxed cd set? Something tells me OB wouldn't be caught dead with vinyl. Harry
  22. Kyler, I like the fact that Klipsch is making an effort to expand marketing of the company's product. Klipsch is expanding it's product line. Klipsch is expanding it's odds of survival and profit It's the only way a company can survive in todays competitive market. Everyone knows of Bose and the advertising dollar they spend is considerable. Good products for the buck and the consumer that wants sound with his/her movies. Headphones, radios, etc. IMHO that's all they're good for anyway. Klipsch is tapping that market and rightly so. "There's gold in them thar hills" This marketing has kept many a company afloat in troubled times for audio. Not many high end audio companies still exist in original form. Think about it. Klipsch has to evolve and adapt to keep the doors open. They are targeting a different group of buyers than PWK originally went after. After all, it's likely more people are answering the phones at Klipsch now than even worked at Hope the first 10 years after PWK opened the doors. Mass production and marketing Klipsch is keeping bread and rice on the table for many folks around the world now. Klipsch is global. The world is smaller due to improved transportation and communications. Overall quality will suffer due to the fact the companies MUST produce a high volume high profit product to survive. On the other hand it allows for a quality product like the Heresy, Khorn, Jubilee, and Palladium to exist. (If I left anything out my apologies, it's probably not intentional) We all have our own idea as to what Klipsch should be. Only Klipsch can decide that. The brains will figure it out to keep Klipsch alive in some form or another even if it's not what our idea of what Klipsch should be. I personally am a Klipsch fan due strictly to PWK. His designs and ideas of what audio reproduction should be. I feel there is no way Klipsch could have survived in any form without the mass production and marketing of "smaller" products. BIG speakers aren't for everyone. 99.999% of the market have no idea of what Klipsch was. Klipsch is a different company. Klipsch is surviving and hopefully profiting and hopefully will be around for another 60+ years. Just my 2 cents worth of dribble. Harry
  23. OB, you bite anyone with them teeth you'll have to take them out of the glass on the nightstand first.Harry
  24. OB's a stand up guy. He knows that the heart of the Fourm rests on the wiligness of people to follow through on their commitments. Nope. He's not afraid to take one for the Forum. Hey, sometimes these things just happen Dis guy, RePlace, is trying to welch on his word. I'm just doing what's needed to keep the joint on the up and up. It's been 16 hours. Lookin bad. Gonna miss ya Buck! Darn it OB, gonna miss you bad. This forum just won't be the same. Your wit, charm, and personality are a daily highlight for me. Once you're gone I may just hang it up myself. Now that you know how much I personally will miss you, can I have your Cornwalls and Scott? Harry That's funny, but if your going to shoot OB you better shoot a few times or you will just make him mad..............................That is a nice Scott ! I wouldn't shoot OB, he's my bro! He's on Thebes Shite list, not mine. I was just trying to make out on his misfortune. Better than his kid playing that rapcrap on tubes and Corns. I mean if his eloquent demise in inevitable why not give them a good home. It's almost like adopting his kids or something. I'll send my thoughts to the big guy for ya OB. Harry
