  1. Oh!...you wouldn't want a P 500 for home, the fan is as loud as a small vacuum cleaner. QSC RMX series might be a good choice.
  2. Dont see hafler in pro sound much these daysm was fairly popular back in late 80's with the p 500. Mosfet amps not favored much inPA community. They had good sound quality for mid top, mushy in the bass. Today we usually see Crown, QSC, Lab Gruppen, and a slew of chinese stuff. Try for a P 500 in hafler for pro mid-top.
  3. Try running a 1.5 to 3 mf cap diectly from input + to HF driver+. This will give a 6 db/octave eq to the top. Leave the existing filter intact. Adjust the value of the cap, bigger lowers the hinge frequency. This is for 8 ohm driver, if 16 ohm, cut values in half.
  4. what kind ofpassive HF eqingare you doingm if any. Love to see a schematic of your XO.
  5. The audio taper pot , as used in a preamp vol control, should ideally be used in the 1;00 to 4:00 range. All audio taper pots will sound worse at lower settings. Trouble is, gain structure considerations are usually aimed at systems with 88 -90 db speaker sensitivity. With horn systems and typical pre-power gains, one usually finds they are running their vol at 9-10 o'.clock. I ended up going with 10 db gain on the pre, and my ave. level is about 2:00...
  6. I think a real good K-Pro topic would be all the background stuff about W.W.R. Technologies. I never hear them mentioned, but I know there was quite a lawduit over something. I once owned many of those mid '90's, systems. love to hear feedback from veterens. Speaking of veterans, remember Tom Gallagher.
  7. The driverack pa used as a measurement tool is fine, i wouldn't use it as an xover or anything like that. the d/a converters sound horrible in those, your soundstage will be very two demensional. The only unitof that type I've heard sound anything near decent was the BSS omnidrive, altho its much more$$.
  8. See also Zen moving coil cartridges. That's who made them...
  9. Klipsch Synergy series are home units, repost in 2 channel and you should get many responses.
  10. the HILL PLASMATRONICS was a high-end speaker from the late 70's.Three way sys ...12" woofer, 5 or 6" mid, plasma tweeter. Heard a few times, great from 4-5k up. Bas was mediocre, mid so-so. But the upper mid top was wonderful. In fact, the tweeter was so fast, it made the other drivers sound slow, leading the system to poor top to bottom coherency. They sold for 7,000 dollars at the time.
  11. My avatar shows a JBL D6600...only available in Japan.
  12. Air Pulse 3.1 from the early 90s. Dont know if it was ever produced. 360 degree radiation, fully hon loaded DiAppolito, 2- 12 in woofers. Was priced at 125k.
  13. just a possibility, system was voiced with reduced driver levels to compensate, or maybe they were thinking coaxial , with LF eminating, ensconcing the mid hi subsystem?
  14. That wa a review in High Fedelity mag, dont know the date ,but I belive it was prior to 1973
  15. As an avid reader of Stereophile, I can tell you JGH never did review anything Klipsch. The first full review of any of the heritage series, speakers was of the LS2,in Nov06 vol. 29, no. 11.. SamTellig reviewed it favorably. The Absolute Sound reviewed the Klipschorn way back in, ,I think issue 4 and 5 in 1974. Not so favorable.
  16. yes, there was a phase change as well...C networks, all drivers in phase. E networks, mid and tweeter, are flipped. Bear in mind per MAS it is actually polarity, not phase, but I digress...!
  17. Anyone know what mid driver was in this old Jensen?
  18. Id use double banana plugs on speaker inputs, and by flipping both around, u can quickly invert absolute phase. If speaker uses barrier strips, fashion some adaptors using short section of cable.
  19. yes, we had a shoot out between this unit and a klipsch mwm woofer. The mwm won, although the ev wasnt too shabby.
  20. Lowered port tuning generally deteriorates transient response in the octaves above, so take note of that when experimenting
  21. Has anyone ever heard these? http://www.funktion-one.com/home.htm
  22. I tend to agree with JWC. There are many compromises and trade offs here, and starting with a "clean sheet of paper"is generally the best way to go.
  23. If you have the k-600 horn, 400 hz cut off is below horn operating range. Plus youd need a larger woofer inductor.
