  1. I had a Sunfire sub when they first came out (True Mark IV, I think) and that thing was awesome. I still miss it.
  2. Right on! As far as placement goes I currently have two in the front left corner and two on the side left corner next to my "sweet spot". I'm just playing around with them for right now. Every wall in my basement has the drywall torn out from about 2' up from the floor because of flooding so this is not a perfect testing environment. Plus, I won't be able to leave them in the front corner where I have them now because that's where th Klipshorns will go so I'm not sure if I'll have the same results once they're in the final resting place. I'm just trying to get an idea of what they are capable of. I'm also considering putting an additional wall up in my basement to make the area where my theater is smaller. I think that would help get the bass a little better. I still want a bit more but I'm this close!
  3. That's me! Mr. Floody Pants. I went through all of the options and in the end I bought these because they got good reviews and I'm kind of loyal to Klipsch. Plus, I like that they're made in the USA. I checked out the Danley subs and they are in the same ballpark price-wise as this set-up but they're so damn huge! I hope they work well with my Klipschorns, too. I will post pictures of the re-building ASAP.
  4. Holy smokes! I replaced two RSW-15's with four KW-120-THX's and two KA-1000-THX's and after playing around with placement, crossover and volume settings I'm very impressed. Right now I'm using a couple of my water damaged RF-3's for mains right now but look forward to hearing the Klipschorns with these.
  5. "Parsimonious" and "kludge" shall be permanent additions to my vocabulary. Thank you, WMcD.
  6. I just received the KW-120-THX subs and KA-1000-THX amplifier from Yura and he did an excellent job! He even checked in to make sure everything was OK when I missed the first delivery attempt. They are in almost new condition (in fact, I would be hard pressed to tell the difference between these and the brand new set that got just two weeks prior!) and even came with an extra interconnect cable. Thanks, Yuri!
  7. Oh, it's very nice. In the summer, I sometimes choose to drive through downtown Birmingham even though it's a much slower way to go but the scenery is fantastic.
  8. I use a metal dental pick (like at the dentist) to remove grills from ceiling and in-wall speakers.
  9. That's a great idea! But he probably wouldn't rehire me.
  10. That's right, my boss is a jerk and he's making me work this Saturday!
  11. It's my pleasure, Neil. Just returning the favor and I'm glad it worked out for you. The basement project is a slow go...... So far I have the Klipschorns and one pair of the THX Ultra2 subs and amp with a second pair on their way. Now I need to figure out what to replace the rear speakers with and finish the rebuilding, hopefully by Christmas.
  12. From topic SE Michigan Flooding: Haven't posted in awhile....... So after many years of dreaming about having a finished basement I was able to buy a house and finish the basement and set my stereo up in a nice family friendly environment. We were able to enjoy it for two years until the whole basement flooded yesterday. I lost two RSW15's, two RF7's, two RF3's and possibly a B&K Reference 200.5 amp. I know it's just stuff and doesn't mean a whole lot but I spent years (and gobs of money) building that system and had plans on keeping it for ever. -Sad Guy in Royal Oak.
  13. Thanks, billybob. I have to say that my wife has been so awesome through this whole mess. I thought my previous set-up would be the best that I would ever have but, because she understands how much I enjoy this stuff she is letting me replace it, and this time it might actually be better!
  14. I have all but paid for these (waiting to find out the form of payment) so it looks like I will soon have 4 of these subs and 2 of these amps. I can hardly wait!
  15. Sir, I will take these at that price and the +/- $250 shipping to 48073 (Royal Oak,Mi). Please let me know how I can pay you.
  16. 1-What condition are these in? 2-Are these made in U.S.A. or China? 3-How much to ship to 48073? 4-I just got a pair of these and this amp and they kick some serious a$$. I'd love to have four! Thanks for answering my questions.
  17. Holy smokes! I probably would have driven out there (from Michigan) and bought these to replace my flood damaged system (which was almost exactly this system!) had I not just dropped an a$$load of cash on other speakers. Good luck with your sale!
  18. Congrats! My dad came from Scotland when he was three and became a citizen about 50 years later. I, too, would like to know what kind of shop. 'Sup Neil? Just picked up my THX Ultra2 subs and amp from Almas yesterday and will be starting the drywall soon. I'll be in touch when it's ready for a listen.
  19. I called Klipsch and was able to get some info on these. They are 2009 model year and built in weeks 48 and 51. I didn't think they were 90's vintage because they don't have the "collar" between the tops and the bottoms (changed in 2005?) and they have the newer (internal) crossovers, which I'm not sure when they changed that. Either way, I like them and I'm glad I have them.
  20. OK......here's the deal: They come with two pieces, the bottom (Low frequency cabinet) and the top (High frequency cabinet) so they each have a serial number on them and there are FOUR peices with THREE different serial numbers. One set (speaker) is a match (the serial numbers are the same for the top and the bottom) and the other set (speaker) has non-matching serial numbers. Yes, they are all black and sound fantastic. There truly isn't a mark on them, they look like they just came out of the box. I was told they were 2012 Klipschorns but that does not seem to be the case which is why I'm starting to think that they were in storage for quite some time before being sold. My guests have just arrived in a 2015 Mustang so I have to go check that out. I'll finish later.
  21. You are right on! My local "news" websites are a complete joke! They regularly refer to somebody by name in the middle an article that the reader is supposed to be familiar with but was never mentioned previously in the story! And the grammar and errors make it almost impossible to read. Even CNN has some awful writers.
  22. mikebse2a3 is correct. I basically have three different serial numbers. So am i correct to assume that this not a big deal? Is this somewhat common? Does this affect the value of them? Thanks so much for the information. I will post pictures of my basement before the flood and after the flood once it's finished.
  23. The other one is: This is from the HF cabinet (the top section): KHAK5BK09480004 match with LF KHAK5BK09480004 This is from the LF cabinet (the bottom section): KHAK5BK09480003 match with HF KHAK5BK09480003 In other words, the top half is the ......0004 serial number and the bottom is the .......0003 serial number so they don't match. I guess I don't really care much, I'm kind of picky and just wanted consecutive and matching serial numbers. No big deal. They must have been sitting around for a long time if they're 90's vintage because they are almost perfect. Thanks for the help.
  24. Right? Each cabinet (High Frequency and Low Frequency) should have the same serial number because they should pair up, correct? I was also told they were from 2012. They look absolutely brand new. I'm both confused and kind of pi$$ed about this. More at myself for taking his word and not looking for myself.
  25. I bought a pair of Klipschorn's from a guy off Audiogon and here are the serial numbers I have: HF: KHAK5BK09510001 match with LF KHAK5BK09510001 and those match. The other one is: HF: KHAK5BK09480004 match with LF KHAK5BK09480004 LF: KHAK5BK09480003 match with HF KHAK5BK09480003 What gives? I specifically asked about consecutive serial numbers and these don't seem to be that and on top of that, the other one doesn't even match each other! I have kind of a red a$$ about this. Am I wrong and making a big deal about nothing? And then my next question is does Klipsch ship them out like that or are they very careful to make sure the serial numbers are consecutive and that the HF and LF cabinets have matching numbers? Thanks for the help.
