  1. If you are going to compare Khorns to Magnepan make sure you use the 20.7s. It wouldn't be fair to compare them to the 3.7s, it's half the cost of a Khorn. It's not really going to be a fair comparison because they are two completely different presentations. Both have their merits.
  2. I started with Beck "Truth" in 1968. Some great tunes on that disc. He moved into Progressive jazz and you either get it or you don't. His instrumental "A day in the Life" is magic. If you don't like that, you are soulless.
  3. I didn't say it made any sense, it's just the way I do it. I don't want to speculate because I really don't know the answer and I think the amp architecture makes a difference also. It's an interesting question, probably with multiple correct answers. I guess you have never seen the guys that leave their pre-amps on 24/7, burning through a lot of tubes in a year. I'm pretty sure they are doing it for good reason. I know I can hear the difference between cold and warm on some equipment. Perhaps it's just not required on your rig/rigs?
  4. I didn't read all the posts. Do we know the other components in the OP's system? Is he looking for sweetness or ground pounding? Sorry if I missed the facts but I can't recommend unless I know about his system and requirements.
  5. It depends. On my most critical system I can hear that it takes 20 minutes to get warmed up and smooth. On other systems I can't hear a difference. As a general rule I give it a half hour before I do any critical listening. Shutdown procedure is turning the gain all the way down and wait for 10 minutes before I kill the power. No reason but I like to let the tubes "idle down" before I flick them off.
  6. You can pop over anytime...sorry I'm not in the UK and I don't have Cornwalls but I would love to have you over anyway. Don't forget the wine, I'm out.
  7. That is a lot of box for 22 watts!
  8. Music Hall A15.3. http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MHA153
  9. I'm a tube guy most of the time but a very nice integrated is the Music Fidelity M3 or one of their older offerings. I have two friends that run these and they are very nice sounding. http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MFM3SI
  10. It's not the WPC, it's the huge power supplies, caps, and quality that give big amps real beef. Personally, I like small amps, I run small tube amps in 3 of my best systems but it can't match my highpower system in weight and slam, even at low volumes.
  11. No they wont. That is why big brute amps exist. However you can get a very satisfactory sound, you just can't get the weight of a big amp.
  12. In the future the Palladiums will be the Holy Grail and much sought after.
  13. Hey, who left the door open and let a multi-channel guy into the 2 channel forum! Maybe we need a secret handshake or something?
  14. Triangle Signature Deltas ($8000), PrimaLuna Dialogue HP Integrated ($4399), Oppo CD ($1500), any tuner. You could sub a P-37F but I really like the Triangles.
  15. Big systems can do the same thing but it takes a really good system and room.
  16. I'll be the odd man out. A big amp will add some meat on the bones for various reasons but mostly because a quality big amp is better than a cheap amp. Think about an audio amp in the 200wpc category.
  17. I am frequently mistaken for a rock....so I don't understand what you mean here....the left and right outputs from the Oppo go to the receiver, and the speaker cables to....the speakers.... The Oppo has a sub output of course, but in Stereo, it does not function. The Velodyne has both inputs and output connections. You'll be using the speaker cable output (from the amp) as the signal source for your sub. Just parallel a second set of speaker wires to the speaker input connections on the sub. Some people think this is the best way to drive a sub and I agree. So you'll hook your speakers up as normal and you will run another set of speaker cables to the sub. You just need one set because most all bass is mixed into both channels. download a Velodyne manual if you are still confused.
  18. OK, easy peazy. Set the Oppo for stereo, then hook up the Velodyne to either the left or right speaker cable. I'm not sure if your Velodyne has speaker inputs but if it does, you are done. If not, post that up and I'll give you the second way to do it.
  19. LT/RT is mixed channel stereo surround sound. Stereo is mixed channel two channel non-surround sound or pure stereo depending on the source.
  20. It's up to the manufacturer to spec their equipment. Power measurements need frequency, distortion levels, and test methodology to be meaningful. I only use power measurements as a rough rule of thumb. Since the difference between 300 WPC and 600 WPC is only 3db, you really have to run the amp to see what's its got.
  21. I had a good one a little while back. I had a small hybrid pre-amp that had a low level hum. The solution was flipping the power cord. The two prong cord could be inserted both ways on the unit. One way was dead quiet the other gave slight hum. That one took some work to isolate.
  22. If Thebes is behind this product, I'm willing to watch him plug it in....that will light him up!
