  1. Tony set up an almost equally special time for a few of us forum members the next year at Mr. Paul's book signing. I wasn't able to make the Hope Pilgrimage, so when this opportunity to travel to Hope came up, I jumped at it. After the "official" event in downtown Hope finished, Tony said a few of us lucky forum members could come over to "the house" and get to meet Mr. Paul and Miss Valerie. It was quite an experience, and we all got to chat with Mike and Maureen (the authors) about all things Klipsch. Mr. Paul was pretty tired from all the day's events, but Miss Valerie was an outstanding host, opening up her home to total strangers, though admirers of what Mr. Paul had accomplished. I was reintroduced to Klipschorns there, and even got to play a snippet of one of my CDs on HIS Klipschorns. That set in motion, my year-long quest for a pair of K-horns, which ended when I got my '68 KBWO pair from a fellow forum member in New England. Quite an experience for me!
  2. Steeler- Yeah, no laser discs at all in the library, so this would be a one trick pony, or maybe 2-3 tricks if there are some good LD deals. But I think for the money, I'll go a different route. Thanks for everyone's advice. Rob
  3. Great. Looking foward to seeing them. Golden is basically metro, so you may have some luck.
  4. Shawn- You are correct, the 3080 is a double side play machine, but for a number of movies, it would still require getting up to swap discs. From what I understand, it does support digital audio, but would need the AC-3 demodulator, or some sort of parts kit to mod the machine. Realistically, I would rather get DVDs than LD, but there may be a few LD movies that don't come out on DVD, or not in the format I would like; ala Star Wars Trilogy. I'd prefer to have the Original Edition vs. Special Edition that will be coming this fall on DVD. But to spend $$ for a format with only a few titles does seem a bit silly. Ed- Pretty telling story there. Sounds like this may be one to pass on. Any other thoughts from the forum?
  5. King- There are a few of us here in CO (Denver metro here), so you might get a local buyer. If you can post info about them, S/N, finish, grill condition, etc, I bet you could get a local seller.
  6. Nah, not into starting a museum, but thanks for the offer.
  7. I have an opportunity to get a Pioneer CLD-3080 laserdisc player that's in great shape. I don't know much about LD players, so how do they compare in quality to DVD? I know this player does not have AC-3 output, but can be modded to pass DD/DTS signals to my receiver via optical digital cable. I also know they are not releasing new movies on LD, but that there are a number of older titles available. So, while this could be called a medium with no future, for a very good player at a nice price, is it worth checking out? Thanks.
  8. I got a chance to hear Jim's handiwork on the TSCM a couple weeks ago when I went up to pick up the Heresys he was selling. It is a massive structure, certainly room dominating, but for those who have the room, the single Earthquake 15" woofer he put in, sounds very good. I was impressed how well it matched up with his Klipschorns. Good deep bass, which would be enjoyed even more in a larger room. It really filled out the low end with the great K-horn top end. Realistically, it looks like a K-horn bass bin with the corners attached, so it makes sense that it would blend well with the K-horns. If someone has the room, and the vehicle to transport it, I figure it would make a great addition to a Heritage HT. The top end sounds nice too, and since Jim has it set up with a K-55-V, would make a great center, again for a Heritage HT. Rob
  9. I hope all is well, since they are supposed to attend the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest here in Denver in Oct.
  10. Since it's a boy, and we know most boys/men are... Horny I'll try to claim that Klipsch makes horns, but I know it won't be enough.
  11. Craig- Yep, these look great in walnut. They would go great on my walnut Flexy next to my walnut K-horns! You've got something to be proud of there for sure. Congrats!
  12. Frz- Good to know that it matches up well with Belles. I just wasn't a fan of the KV-4 with the Forte II. Yes, they are pretty rare speakers, and are certainly good ones, but I prefer the Academy in my existing system.
  13. As having tried a KV-4 with the Quartet's bigger brother, Forte II, I would NOT recommend the match. The KV-4, made for the Epic series, was much brighter than the Forte II horns, and made for some less-than-stellar sound. If you can't find an Academy, then go for a KV-3, made for the KG line. Yes, it has a harder time keeping up with the Forte II, I think it sounded better, overall as a system, than the KV-4/Forte II combo. Frz- The KV-4 is a BIG speaker. IIRC correctly, it is bigger, size-wise, than the Academy. And with the Epic line, will do great things. I sold my KV-4 to a forum member and he loves it with his CF-4s(?)
  14. Amy- Congrats on your pending bundle of joy. I think I met you at the gathering last year, but can't make this one, as our little daughter turns 6 months this week, and there are lots of "honey-do's" on the list. Maybe next year, and I could bring along the whole family! But she already like Baby Neptune CDs on the K-horns, so I bet yours will also enjoy the fruits of your Klipsch association. As far as names go, we had a hard time too, so went and bought one of those 40,000 baby name books. My wife and I each went through all the girl names, wrote down our favorites, then started culling the list. It took us a several weeks, and finally decided on first and middle names about a week prior to her birth. So you have some time. But here's one for you...Paul?
  15. As Gary said, I recently moved from CT. I was not able to find a Reference dealer around, though I must admit, I didn't try all that hard, since I have my Heritage gear. I know it is a drive, but there are some pretty decent audio shops in Greenwich. I don't remember seeing any Klipsch gear in them though. Best bet would be to try out of state. Hartford is pretty central, so you can get to RI, Mass, NY pretty quickly. I was in New Milford. Rob
  16. Colin- Yeah, I didn't find anything in a search either, but you have to have one pretty close, so just use it as an excuse to get out of the house and look at some power tools in the process. Picky- Interesting info from Lowes. Would be interested in what Andy has to say about that. I sure like what BLO does for me.
  17. Lon- Does the Decware unit also have an upsampler?
  18. Yes, yes! Pics, prices, details please, especially location, though your profile says Idaho, just want to be sure.
  19. Tony- IIRC, a false corner of 42" will be even with the front of the K-horn cabinet. So, I would think that if you can leave a minimum of 6" between the K-horn and your cabinet, you should be fine. I have one of my K-horns with about that same 6" spacing to a brick hearth and things sound pretty good to me. Good luck.
  20. I'll be interested in your review. I got a Philips 795SA in last week that I'll be trying out on the K-horns. A couple other folks here on the boards have it. It's an entry into SACD and it also has an upsampler, which is a pretty neat idea. Thought this would give me a good way to check that out for the price, $140, to see if upsampling is any good. If so, then I'd think about that in the NT4000.
  21. Home Depot has it in stock. You can get in the 1qt container or the 1 gallon size. I started with the quart, but think the next time I buy, I'll go big, since I'm now in a much dryer climate. Forget the price, but it certainly won't break the bank. The quart I bought did two coats on my K-horns and one coat each on a set of Chorus IIs, Forte IIs, and KG 1.2s, with about 1/3 of the can left. Andy's advice here is spot on. I'm a convert to BLO.
  22. Lon- Very interesting looking unit. I have been thinking about getting a Njoe Tjoeb for the tubed output and upsampler. Wonder how this compares? Cool that it is a changer and can handle SACD. Certainly an interesting one for 2-ch location.
  23. Craig- These amps look wonderful. You've done a great job with them. I wish I could hear them at Indy this year, but maybe some other time. You still have an open invitation whenever you are here in Denver. It would be great to meet you in person! Rob
  24. Strange. I replied to this thread this morning, but the post gremlins must have been at work. Craig- Thanks for the info. Nice after-sales support! I'll keep an eye open for the EI Elite golds. Can you try a pair of Teles on one side and the EI's on another, or do you need to swap the whole quad out? My musical memory isn't the best, so it's hard to remember what tubes sound like after you let them cool for several minutes, pull the shields, swap tubes, replace shields, warm up the amp, etc. Bob- Where did you get your EI's for $20? I might just try a pair at that price. I bought a set of EI's that are supposedly similar to the legendary Tele smooth plates, but I haven't had a chance to swap them out. I think I paid about $20 or so for this quad also, so I figured I'd give them a shot. Ryan- So what's a good price for the Raytheon's if they are genuine? Would I really be able to tell a difference in the preamp tubes? Dflip- Interesting ideas. Will have to keep them in mind as well. Thanks.
