  1. Yes 200w/channel will make you say "WOW". When I added my B&K Ref. 4430 3 channel(200w/channel) to my Onkyo receiver, the RF-63's came alive. More depth, bass, articulate, headroom, refinement, and all other audio lingo adjectives. I have no experience with Emotiva but many on forum are pleased. There are better amps out there but for the money it seems Emotiva is a good choice. Here is a link to an excellant 3 channel amp on the used market. I would get it if I didn't have my B&K and had extra cash laying around. http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampsmult&1256499339&/Aragon-8008x3-3-Channel-Amplif Bill
  2. Welcome to the forum. The 63/64 combo is nice with a quality receiver. Just wait until you add an outboard amp. What is your budget for an amp? Where are you located? Bill
  3. I think Bill H's "disregard" means that he started to post but changed his mind. No hate mail from any of us. $499.00 for an almost new pair of RF-82's is sweet. If you were to decide on the Def Tech's you might have received hate mail(just kidding). We all appreciate good sound and good deals. Did you get the pair of 82's from the C-list ad I posted? Bill
  4. Welcome to the forum. While the F-3's are by no means junk, the ref. series are of better quality all across the board. If you prefer towers over bookshelves, consider the used market. Post where you are located(near city, state) so the forum members can help in finding something in your area. Take a look at this: http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1255463627&/Klipsch-RF-82-Black-8/10-with- Bill
  5. Welcome to the forum. I have most of the RF-63 system(2-63's and 1-64) and am running them with an Onkyo TX-SR705 as a preamp and a B&K 3 channel amp(200w/ch). Like my 705, your 706 pushes 100w/channel(2 channels driven). Personally I think you should add a 3 channel amp to run your L-C-R speakers and let your Onkyo run your surrounds. The RF-83's might put a little too much strain on your receiver's amp section being that the 83's tend to dip down to about 2 to 3 ohms. With seven channels or even five channels being powered simutaneously, the Onkyo is being asked to perform a really big task. Your receiver would have to power six 8"woofers and eight 6.5" woofers. Take a look at this review of the 706. http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/receivers/3016/onkyo-tx-sr706-av-receiver-test-bench-page3.html As you can see from the graph, the 706 does really well with 1 channel driven and easily beats the published numbers for 2 channels driven. Drive 5 channels and the amps get pretty weak. Bill
  6. I saw this ad and was wondering if any of you well informed vintage nuts could give me some feedback about this receiver or similar model. Is this price okay? I use my Marantz with the Forte's and would like to know if the Sansui(160w/channel) would sound just as good or better with them. Any responses will be welcomed. Thanks, Bill http://orlando.craigslist.org/ele/1312086288.html
  7. In Florida, with DUI cases, the prosecutor has to prove that someone's impairment actually caused the accident. In this case, the victim jay-walked in the path of Stallwoth. The burden of proof had to show that only an intoxicated driver would have not been able to avoid the collision. In this case they could not prove that an unimpaired person would have avoided hitting the victim. Bill
  8. I own an RSW-10d and my buddy has a RW-12d. I think the RSW-10d definitely has more punch with music with it's stronger amp and ultra-high-excursion active and passive woofers. Based on the specs, the RW-12d will play a little louder at 30hz but you will have some port noise contributing to that volume. With that said, you might like it better for movies. FYI, the woofers on the RSW-10d are the same as those on the RT-10d. Bill
  9. I don't know if sanding down a pair of RF-62's is even possible. From the RF-82's on down in the reference series the veneer is vinyl over mdf construction. You would have to somehow remove the vinyl and put a real wood veneer finish. It might be possible to put wood veneer over the vinyl. Someone with more knowledge please chime in. Bill
  10. As Youthman said, the RF-62's go down to 38hz. You have to decide if that is low enough. I have the RF-63's and they go to 30hz. Even though they sound fine in just 2 channel without a sub, they sound better with one. Using a sub doesn't tax the amp so much so a cleaner signal will arrive to your towers. Bill
  11. Wuzzzer, Sweet screen. Nice Forte II's. Hook that baby up and put in a concert DVD or BD and rock. Bill
  12. Great buy Wuzzzer. Bigger, newer, 120hz and I am sure less than you paid for your JVC. I got my 57" Mitsu. 2.5 years ago and paid $1609.00 plus warranty and I thought I got a good deal. When it is delivered, pull it out of the box and take a few pictures before you sign and let the UPS/Fed Ex guy leave. Vann's has great customer service so you won't have any problems. $800.00 for a 2 year old RPTV, great sell for you. Enjoy. Bill
  13. Remember here, without some type of statistics, rankings are only subjective. That is why Pizza Hut was ranked as "best pizza in Orlando". Of course that is nuts. More like "most popular". I will agree that these three's rankings are ridiculous. Steve Howe is one of the few(IMO) guitarists that if you close your eyes you would think he was playing lead, rhythm, and a 12-string acoustic all at the same time. I have not heard much Eddie Van Halen lately, but David Gilmore is probably a better player now than he was twenty years ago. I'll also agree that Lindsey Buckingham is a far better guitarist than he has been given credit for. Bill
  14. Wuzzer, I know that you and I are Mitsubishi dlp fans and you are looking in that direction. With the big box store's phasing out plasma's these days and selling them at very affordable prices, you might want to consider that option. I know you want the largest screen for your money. I don't know if this is large enough or cheap enough but for the money these are good deals. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9280164&type=product&id=1218073533060#tabbed-customerreviews http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8793898&type=product&id=1205537515326 Bill
  15. Ooops, I did not catch the India thing. Shipping costs from Florida would be crazy. Bill
  16. Welcome to the forum. I only have personal experience with the Onkyo. I have the TX-SR705 and it has served me well for the last 2 years. I am currently using it as a pre/pro with a 3 channel B&K amp. Very reliable with alot of features. The Marantz offers a better preamp and amp section with less bell's and whistles and an inferior video processor than the 706. The Denon is probably kind of in the middle but it does not have preouts for adding an outboard amplifier. Bill
  17. newbee, Welcome to the forum. I have a mid 80's Luxman R115 stereo receiver(70w/ch) that is in great condition with a real strong tuner. I am currently using it to power a pair of Forte's, switching back and forth with my 70's Marantz. Don't let 70w/channel fool you. It feels more like 85 to 100w. Send me a PM if interested. Bill
  18. I use Formby's Lemon Oil Treatment. You should be able to find it at Ace Hardware. Some on the forum may suggest another brand. Do a search on the forum for "oil-wood-finish" or any combination of words. Don't use the hyphens in your search. Bill
  19. With the dust covers fixed and a good oiling on the finish, I would say that $225.00 would be a good starting price. Bill
  20. I think you should buy the RC-52 and then do this. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/123294.aspx Bill
  21. Is this system for you or your friend? What city will this system reside? The reason for these questions is that there are alot of Reference speakers on the used market for very reasonable prices. Would you consider used speakers? I bought a pair of mint cherry RF-63's for $1000.00 on the used market and the seller even delivered them to my home. Bill
  22. Welcome to the forum. First off, what is your budget for speakers minus the sub? Quick reply and we will go from there. Where in Texas is your friend located? Bill
  23. Wuzzer, I have a 2.5 year old Mitsubishi DLP(57731) 57in. I chose a RPTV because I wanted the the largest screen for my $$$. When I had my house built we created a niche in the wall of our family room which is 54in. wide. A 57' Mits. was the largest TV that could fit. From any angle in the room it looks like an lcd or plasma flat panel. I just replaced my bulb a couple of months ago(2 yearrs and 1 month). My only advice for you is if the DLP is the route you go, get the extended warranty and pay no more for it than the cost of a new lamp. I almost forgot, so far the Mits. has been very reliable and picture quality is great. Mitsi's PQ has improved considerably more since my model came out. If DLP is your choice, consider this before you buy at BB. http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/features/458647390/mitsubishi-wd-65835 http://www.avrev.com/home-theater-rear-projection-hdtvs/dlp-rear-projection-hdtvs/mitsubishi-wd-65835-dlp-hdtv.html This is a huge step up and only $50.00 more. Vann's offers free ground shipping and no sales tax and a great reputation(no affiliation just highly recommend). Bill
  24. From my experience, Onkyo/Integra GUI are very user friendly. For $1500.00, you can get alot of receiver. Here are a few options: http://www.6ave.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=MARSR8002-OPN http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/MARSR8002/Marantz/SR8002-receiver-THX-125w-x-7ch-HDMI-home-theater-surround/1.html The Marantz doesn't have as many bells and whistles but makes up for it in superior sound quality. http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/details/538397989/yamaha-rxz7 Yamaha has really nice amp sections and many bells and whistles. Maybe Youthman will chime in about Yamaha's GUI. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/MARSR8002/Marantz/SR8002-receiver-THX-125w-x-7ch-HDMI-home-theater-surround/1.html Onkyo has the most for the least and the HQV Reon-VX processor for upconverting to 1080P. This is a killer price. I would buy this one if it would fit in my cabinet(18 1/16 in deep). Bill
  25. Welcome to the foum. For what it's worth, most will agree that the reference line is of better build quality and has a more refined sound quality. My vote=RF-62. As far as the subs you are choosing between, I have the RSW-10d and if the price is right I would get it over the RW-12d. It is a more musical sub and for your room size, it should have as much max volume as the RW-12d. I think either choice of surrounds will work great. Choose whichever pair is the best deal. You did not mention the center channel you are getting. IMO, get the RC-62. Bill
