  1. Another thing to try is to find out if the RF is coming in through patch cables, so unplug at the source end and select it on your amp then if you hear the noise then there is a source. Of course, you can then buy cables (build your own) using shielded cable to solve this. Good luck Paul
  2. Back to your original question about the audio connectors...they are probably 5 pin DIN connectors like for MIDI. Do a Google search for DIN and pin out and you should find a diagram to help you out. Also, you could do a search of the forum here, I think someone else asked this question. Happy Holidays! Paul
  3. Some of this is a repeat of other's responses, but it will save you to learn from our mistakes You spec'd 3 wireless handheld mics - if at all possible use wired mics - they are cheaper, you can find mics for specific purposes and you will less likely to pick up noise or interference. Someone already mentioned Shure SM57 and SM58- I second them inexpensive, good frequency response and pick up patterns and a low signal to noise ratio - so you will not hear any crowd noise, etc. and I will add Sennheiser MD421U - its pricey but great for people with deep voices and looks good on the pulpit. I would try to stay away from Mackie Mixers - the quality has dropped considerably in the past 10 years and in dark settings (clubs and theatres especially) the knobs are hard to distinguish/differentiate due to using similiar colors. I highly recommend Allen and Heath mixers - inexpensive and great EQ sections. Also, in all mixers look for 110mm faders as opposed to 80mm - gives you more control. For amps I recommend QSC or Crown To save money you can make your own cables (speaker and mic) if you or a parisioner knows how to solder. Don't forget a room EQ - look for 1/3 octive and selectable +/-6 or +/- 12 dB. You might also want to ask if anyone as an old CD or cassette decks to donate. Lastly, you will get a better deal if you would with one dealer for all the gear. Good luck and don't hesitate to ask questions - their is a tremendous wealth of knowlegde on this forum. Paul
  4. I may be wrong on this, but when they introduced the blue laser DVDs, they were for recording at more compressed data rates. The blue laser DVD players will play current DVDs, but current DVDs will not play blue laser DVDs. Also, I think consumer players/recorders are 2 years or more away. Paul
  5. Matt, I would think its worth $40 just to add to your collection. But, that's just me. Paul
  6. Mark, I have the AL networks and I am very disappointed it their performance (or lack thereof). So I will be building ALKs over the winter Paul
  7. Rudy81: To make unbalanced audio cables using coax, you will need the following: 4 RCA male jacks - preferably color-coded so you can match left to left and right to right 2 pieces of coax cable of equal and suitable length for your application 1 pair of "dikes" (diagonal wire cutters) 1 pair of wire strippers 1 sharp knife 1 soldering iron, solder and the skill to use it So, start with 1 end of the coax cable and strip off approximately 1" of the outer casing, leaving the shield intact. Slide the shell of the RCA down the cable about a foot Using the dikes, cut into the shield either once or a second time on the other side of the center conductor Peel back the shield Use the wire strippers to cut the dielectric to the center conductor and strip away the dielectric Solder the center conductor of the coax to the pin of the RCA (center) and solder the shield to the outer clamp of the RCA (If you split the shield into 2 halves, only solder one to the outer clamp of the RCA and cut of the other half) Close up the RCA Repeat 3 times Install Enjoy good music Paul
  8. Flason, I bookmarked www.bluejeanscable.com I have not used them, but I am familiar with their brands of cables and connectors which are great in the pro world and I agree with their philosophy. Hope this helps. Paul
  9. I just wish these had shown up in Atlanta. Paul
  10. dgb: If you can't upgrade to any of the heritage line, keep the KG4's they rock! Also, IMHO, they sound better than the RF5's. Paul
  11. A buddy of mine from work - who also helped me move my La Scalas - loaned it to me. It is great! I really enjoyed the plot and the subtext. And a great '80's soundtrack. If you watch it, you will spend some time puzzling over it. Paul
  12. Dr Pyro, the Star Trek Enterprise re-play was in standard definition because your local station probably recorded the broadcast on a non-HD deck to repeat it later in the week. Not many local stations have HD decks to record on since the decks start at 40K and tape stock is about $50 for a 64 minute tape. As for cable companies, many will be squeezing the HD signals down to save bandwidth in order to offer more channels. It is a vicious circle. Paul
  13. "EVERY CHANNEL THAT IS BROADCASTED IN HD IS 5.1 SURROUND. " This isn't quite true, the standard for High Def TV includes the ability to handle 5.1 audio, but not everything is produced in it. ESPN currently does alot of there stereo broadcasts in "CircleSurround" which as I understand it is a simulated surround from a stereo source. One current drawback to High Def, and it will go away over time, is a good deal of programming is upconverted from standard definition (4:3 aspect ratio) to High Def (16:9). The picture itself usually is not horrible, though not as vibrant as HD, but some networks stretch the picture, so it just looks a little off. As an example, when looking at HD sets/tuners, check out ESPN's sports center or some of their daytime broadcast. Also, Turner Entertainment (TNT/TBS/Cartoon Network/Turner Classic Movies) will be launching a HD network on March 15th, 2004. I do not know what we are planning as the actual network, but one of the ideas is a "Best of Turner" with movie, sports and cartoons.
  14. What kind of cable runs between the cable box and the receiver? Regular video (RCA's on both ends) or S-video? If it is an RCA cable, make sure your receiver upconverts to S-video. Hope this helps
  15. And if you have a really big room, you can get these bad boys! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3052580170&category=14993 Paul
  16. Crossfire -- Stevie Ray Vaughan - I know its old, but I still love it. 17. Not to be rude, but there is a dedicated Promedia Forum farther down on the main page. This area has experts in non-computer based audio systems. Good luck!
  18. I have seen the first 2 and they were great. Here is what I know. Produced by Martin Scorsese and he directed the first on on Sunday night. 6 other episodes directed by others including Wim Wenders, Clint Eastwood (Piano Blues) and Mike Figgis. Check out www.pbs.org for more info. And enjoy! Too bad no SRV
  19. Dave, I am really mad I had an idea for something exactly like this about 2 weeks ago and have been doing some research about how to build one. You just beat me to it. Here are my thoughts - not worth the "paper" they are written on... I am not a fan of 1/4" TRS, why not XLRs? My idea was to put in a CD-R drive...you should offer this as an option I like the idea of the gyroscopic mouse, I was going to use a PDA as a remote in my idea and make provisions for it to be the whole systems remote. How big will the non-removeable harddrive be? Keep up the good work and let us know when you will be selling/shipping them. Paul PS: I will gladly be a beta tester for you!!! PLEASE!
  20. Where do I sign up? I'll even expose myself to bose to qualify to participate
  21. With my KG4's I drove em loud to overcome the "cone inertia" - just that above about 85dB, they sounded tighter and more live-like. With my La Scalas I have not found this or I haven't turned it up loud enough
  22. I hope you didn't write your rant while driving Of course, here in Atlanta, people try to do that while sitting in traffic and other things
  23. Happy Birthday! May you be happy, healthy and wealthy. Paul
  24. Skonopa, glad to hear you are still safe. I just hope you have a chainsaw At least you'll get some good BBQ firewood from the trees. Mike- awesome picture. That has to be one of the best pictures of a hurricane I have ever seen. Paul ex-Corpus Christi Texas resident
  25. And they sound great! Welcome to the forum Paul
