  1. Glue up of mitered 3/4" mahogany box for the bottom.
  2. Here are some pics. Lacquered MDF with dalmation wood armboard. Mahogany set is in process.
  3. Shop 2 channel. Advent 300 on the bench with an ipod cord and two heresies under the bench. Other project stuff around.
  4. Got rid of my pool table and moved my two channel out of the home theater.
  5. Turn it up and you blow the kid across the floor. Get another kid and move the speakers to the four corners and you can have bumper cars.
  6. Happy Birthday Bob. Thanks for all you patience with my dumb questions.
  7. Walnut is a pretty dark wood even when it has a clear finish. You may not get them a lot lighter if you refinish them. Any stain will make them darker than the natural wood. I do not think there is a lot of darkening pigment in the original walnut oil finish but someone else may know (Greg?). An opaque or partial opaque finish can make them lighter but you will get a painted look that has a wood grain in it. If you want a light finish you could go with a maple or the like and re-veneer. Re-veneering can be tricky if you have not worked with wood much. How about selling yours and buying an oak pair? May be even make a trade offer in the garage sale section.
  8. Any one know anything about the Pioneer Elite Pro FPJ1 video projector. I understand that JVC DLA-RS2U is the same thing. I have a chance to sell my older Runco cl710 and I am looking at a replacement. Any help is appreciated.
  9. The grills on the cornwalls I have were missing when I got them. I will make new grills to fit the horns I end up using. I would be interested in Greg's horns but I wonder what the difference would be compared to some PH800s at $75 a pair?
  10. Bob Crites has used a pyle pro 2380p (discontinued) and a ph800 in his conscalas. Are you thinking of a similar shape and size? I would be interested. I am on the fence as to refinishing my lascalas or taking the parts and trying a cornscala.
  11. Sorry quote did not come through on previous post
  12. I enjoyed this blu-ray. I watched with a friend and we both thought the mikes were "hot" for this recording. There seemed to be alot of gain added to the recording. Reynolds can play.
  13. I am on the gear head side of the continum, but I have always been able to get a better sound (in my opinion) from analog. I have tried several cd players and several turntables/preamp/cartridge combinations. When the vinyl does not sound better to me than the CD there is usually a turntable/tonearm/cartridge set up problem. My 1.5 cents.
  14. What did you end up getting? For my LSI's I like the EL34 in a cayin integrated amp and 6L6 tubes in 2 scott 99c. There is a scott 222c for sale right now in the garage section that would also be a good fit.
  15. I have used minwax sticks, crayons and colored markers for furniture. I end up going back to my dads trick-shoe polish. Start light and go darker. You can usually buff it out to the level that looks good. You can even buff it almost off and start again if you over buff. I use kiwi polish in assorted colors applied with a q-tip and buffed with a soft cloth. The goal is to get rid of the color differences that catch the light. Add a couple of coats of butchers paste wax on the enire surface after the polish has dried and you are done.
  16. I have always liked this poster. It hangs in a promenent place in my room. I would be interested in a copy of the original ad if anyone knows where to find one.
  17. Took my 124 to a friends house. He has a high end mcintosh set up with proclaim speakers. We traded out his well tempered table for the my 124 with the rega and the micro benz I described above. He was floored. The base tightened up and the sound stage expanded. We tried it up against sacd and the difference was still considerable. We ended up getting him a local 124 on ebay. Another turntable project.
  18. I have my heresy 2s in the shop with lamp cord to an old pioneer reciever. The plugs are still on the lamp cord with one spade twisted 90 degress to fit into the old pioneer speaker sockets. On the other hand, I recently put my heresy 1s on speaker stands in my main room and I like them with my nordost cables and tube amp. They can be dressed up or dressed down without a problem. Wine or moonshine will still get you drunk.
  19. Still looking for some cartridge recommendations. I have access to a bluenote u3 unipivot tonearm, a rega 300 and a sme 3009. Anyone solved the iron sub platter magnetism with moving coil cartridges? Thinking about the zu 103. Any opinions on spending more for the higher level zu 103s?
  20. A second vote for cayin stuff. I have the cayin a50t integrated and it sounds better than some mcintosh, creek, conrad johnson, primuluna and adcom gear that I have tried with my cornwalls and lascalas. I have changed the power and preamp tubes to high end mullards to bring out the best of the cayin imho..
  21. Has any one had problems with moving coil cartridges and the iron sub table?
