  1. Two good ideas. I am going to put then on milk crates in the back to compare them to my PSB setup. The winning 5 speakers stay the loosers will be listed for sale.
  2. I was invited to Noah's last night to pick up a heresy center channel. It was great to meet Noah in person and talk about audio stuff. He showed his large array of equipment and let me pick out my own cabinet, and components from his stock of parts. It was like a klipsch buffet. I noticed several scott 99 amps in a neat stack and could not resist. I bought two. Noah was very nice and his prices were more than fair. He noticed my motorola phone and even gave me a charging cradle he no longer used. I enjoyed meeting Noah and I am sure we will get together again. I will post pics of my new toys when I get them home. Thanks Noah.
  3. Here is a pic of itunes on a projection screen.
  4. Very nice work. I used to hang out in my grandfather's forge. I got to do a few things with him. I wish I had paid more attention but I was only a youngster. I still have some pieces we made together.
  5. The bottle of Sam Adams shown in the picture makes it all work for me.
  6. I am using a mac mini with itunes and I use the USB connection to a M audio audiophile interface. I want to upgrade the dac interface. What are you using and what would you recommend? I would like to preserve my ability to record vinyl to lossless files so the DAC would have to work in two directions. Computer>DAC> preamp (for playback) and phono preamp>DAC> computer (for recording).
  7. Could the speed problem be related to traction (slipage)? Have you tried a little talc on the floss or the belt?
  8. When I first read mapleshade catalog I suspected that there might be some snake oil for sale. I got some iso blocks and they work as advertised. There may be some value to buying the system they have put together and tested. You could also get the same results with a walgreens machine, homemade solution, etc. Depends on how much effort you want to put in to put together your system.
  9. That is the site I got the crevice tool idea from.
  10. I have seen them all at least once and I like your choices. I think you are over budget especially the moments notice part.
  11. Mapleshade sells a similar system for $150. Probably worth a try. http://www.mapleshaderecords.com/audioproducts/deepcleaningsystem.php
  12. I built my own record cleaner that worked well for along time. I used an old ice cream machine motor, a modified vacuum cleaner crevice tool, Two ratchet sockets, a small oreck vacuum, two pieces of round acrylic, epoxy, velvet, and a nut and bolt. First I used a dremel tool to cut a slot length wise in the crevice tool. The length of the slot spans the record grove area. Then I squared off the end of the tool and glued a wooden plug in the end. I used contact cement to cover either side of the slot with velvet. I drilled several breather holes on the tool to control the amount of suction. I cut two pieces of round acrylic the diameter of a record label and drilled a record sized hole in the middle. I epoxied a nut in the bottom of one of the 9/16 sockets and a bolt in bottom of the other. The record goes between the round acrylic and the nut an bolt get spun on to grip the record. The 9/16 socket happened to fit on the plastic hex drive of the ice cream machine. I fit the record in between the two acrylic/socket assemblies and thread the other acrylic/socket side on through the hole in the record. I insert one of the sockets in the motor. Spray the cleaning fluid on the record. Give it a light brushing and vacuum. I then flip the record inserting the other socket and repeat. I will post a picture when I get home. PS: The ice cream maker was salvaged from the local dump. It died. I am looking for another one with the same 9/16 drive. In the mean time I got a nitty gritty and it works just as well with a higher wife acceptance factor. If I find a motor I may end up selling the machine parts less the vacuum.
  13. All heresy it is. Noah teased me with an offer to sell a single heresy. I have an older monster Mirage BPS 400 sub that should work fine. I will set it up and compare to my psb setup. My current setup is two psb image 3lr, two psb 10s and one psb 9c.
  14. Thanks for the input. I think I am going to try to use 4 heresy speakers that I have and find a single heresy for a center channel. I follow the logic on the seating placement. I have tried a single chair in many locations before the sectional arrived and the sound is better a couple of feet forward. The problem is that my wife likes the 100" screen from 14 feet, she does not like it at 12 feet. I keep inching it up but for some reason after my wife cleans it moves back. I am also considering new seating (the corner seat in the sectional is shot). I think a set of three chairs would be better and more movable. What position should the heresy take in the back corners? Firing perpindicular from the wall, to the middle of the room or to the listening position? What should I use for stands?
  15. I admit than I am a gear head. I am always trying something new or old in my system. I like vintage gear and required tweaking it requires. What is your dream 2 channel system? Include equipment have you have heard or wish you could try. Biuld a virtual system with any price under $100,000. Extra points for high quality lower cost systems. The catagories are preamp, amp, analog source, digital source, speakers, cables, and power supply.
  16. Fender, What do you use for a test disk?
  17. Another vote for replacing foam. I have done a few pairs of Advents. I got the surrounds at parts express. I have used the wellbond and tissue paper trick once because it was suggested in another thread and it worked great for a small (1/4") in a klipsch cloth surround.
  18. I grew up and lived in VT until 1996. The term used in central VT is vermin.
  19. I did it the caps in my cornwalls with out much experience and some on the phone guidance from Bob Crites. Here is a pic.
  20. More good words about Bob. He sent me tweeter parts, caps and grill cloth for my DIY projects. His advice on what to do and how to do it was very helpful..
  21. Bump. Did I ask a stupid question? There are some surrounds for sale in the garage sale section. Would one of these be a better option?
  22. Just missed it. I just got an order shipped on Friday.
  23. I got mine yesterday. They are far and away the most comfortable I have ever tried. The sound is far better than the my Etymotic er6 and alot better than my v-moda's. Over all they are balanced throughout the sound spectrum. No real emphasis. Just good sound. A bit less efficient than my er6's bit better through the low end than the er6.
