  1. Contemplating where to drop the slab 6 inches. Actually trying to stay one step ahead (or at least up) with A/V and contractor. Would like to have my own opinion of how the setup should be to compare to their suggestions. So, The room itself is 17 x 28. Subtract 4 feet for quipment behind AT screen. Leaves 17 x 24. That should hold 4 seats across x 2 rows. Maybe 3 foot aisles down both sides. 3 20 amp circuits. AT wall is ~17 x 10. I come up with, starting at the screen which might be 120" wide, 139 diagonally - First seat row at 15' and second at 19'. Then a small bar behind second row and a 3' aisle at rear fills up the room. Run a conduit under slab and pull cat6 and outlets just before the 15', 19' and up the cabinet for the bar. So, the 6" drop in slab would be 15' from the screen. I like the idea of a bigger screen, but it pushes the seat rows back to far. I'm not sure if that is ultra important. I kind of like the front row in movies. Sore neck and all .... Any thoughts or suggestions on the slab work? Or whatever. Thanks as always.
  2. Thanks Dtel and Mustang. Looks like on this one we'll put the 2 CH in another room and the KH in the HT. It's tricky to hide everything for the WF. I'll read a bit on your suggestion Mustang. On to the next decision. Where to have the slab drop down for the front row and what to run under the slab.
  3. It's been a long time since I did the stroll ...... lemme get it back, etc. OK, I've been gone a while. But, I do know where to turn for the best advice. Quick catch up, ummmm, still working fortunately. Building a house. Need help with home theater. So ... I'm baaack. Trying to stay a step ahead of the automation/low voltage fellows. First thing on my mind are the KHorns. I can use them behind an acoustically transparent wall for front L/R in the HT, but I also have VRDs and a Blueberry laying around somehwere. While great for KHorns, maybe not so great for the HT. Should i sell all and start over for the HT, sell VRDs and BBerry and use horns, keep VRDs and BBerry for other speakers, or? I can't really put the whole set (horns) in another room, so I'm wondering about this first. Ummm, feedback encouraged, literary that is ....
  4. I think an exact copy is an exact copy. After that there are other things to ponder - Does the player you use tag the way you like and if you want to move to another player are the file formats and tag(s) portable. Conversion of your digital signal back to analog. The sound card and dac probably make more difference than say FLAC versus lossless.
  5. I thought the vapor trail after this mornings launch (the last night one I think) was particularly intriguing.
  6. Geez Mark Now I gotta go watch em just to see Ray!
  7. Outlaw 2150 and Cornwalls. Render conversation impossible and causes considerable marital lack of bliss. Their lips move but you wont hear what their saying. Used Cornies are around at 400-500 given the current mess. I don't use a sub but I suppose the right one could help. Cornwalls sound great with Primus, Dream Theater, AIC, etc.
  8. I let ours lapse, only used it in the car and I get better music grabbing the ipod to plug in. If I drove all day then maybe.
  9. I've done a turkey on a pals. Turned out yummy. Holds temp better than my Weber smoker. Can build them into a nice table setup. The Weber is a bit easier to manage smoke I feel. Maybe add-ons for the egg help. Eggs are at Sams Club online right now I think. I'd get one if I didn't have ... ummmmm a few Webers. Might anyway if I get room, but I need a gas job for convenience next. I'd suggest it's really about time and temp more than the particular grill, tho some are much easier to manage for smoking. Seems they rust, break, fall apart, chi, dent at different rates. And some tend to burn me more often than others. Might be the martinis.
  10. I'm so sorry to hear Winchester. I have a Lab and I'm scared of the day as I know it's always inching closer. I really feel for ya. I wish it just wasn't this way with dogs. Sounds like you had a fine pup. That's a good quote J4 - thanks
  11. What kind of business is this? If she's a graphic artist these suggestions might be over the top. Granted, if she sells gas stations things are of a different magnitude. Somebody sewing draperies might not need all these protections. Someone selling food might. Above post is an interesting example - charge the company 3x what she makes now when they are making the change(s) to save money. Might just windup with no job. I'd think hard about tossing that one out there in today's economy. 20% bump might be reasonable. Just doing "it" won't stop you from being sued. It might protect your personal assets but you can still spend a fortune on legal fees in the fight. Having a corp or LLC doesn't prevent the process. Someone might conclude the business is too poor and still try to go after you. You might get it dismissed instantly, or, well, your lawyer might. That said, if you don't mind spending the cash an LLC is pretty simple and effective. You need to have a reasonable assessment of litigation risk given whatever the heck she is doing IMHO to decide. If she is valuable to the company have you considered just saying: 1) No, I like it the way it is - they may say okay. Or, 2) Mr. Bossman, buy insurance covering her for business libility if that's your only real concern. To me, rather than complicating life it's about who has leverage. If she is real valuable just voice to the employer your concerns and you might find they resolve the issue. Disclaimer - litigation goes on until there is no cash left to fight, then things oddly settle or bankruptcy emerges. Lawyers - can't live with em, can't live without em
  12. Incorporating will probably hurt you on taxes, of course everything depends on income levels, but corporations are subject to taxes as well as employees of said entity. Furthermore, if you don't meet the ongoing requirements the corporate shell could be pierced (meaning you get sued personally anyway). People can sue the Board of Directors too. People can sue about most anything and often it's a tactic to get settlement payouts. Don't let right and wrong confuse you. Don't worry too much about that stuff until she's quite successful IMHO. Incorporating requires some effort, a Board, meetings, note, etc., to really shelter personal assets. Again, you can still be sued. That's entirely different from getting a judgement against you. On the flipside there are conditions that define a private contractor versus and employee. Typically contractors are not permanent and must set their own hours. You can research that, but in the event of dispute it would probably be between the employer and the state, not you. You can really do nothing, just have her work, get paid and pay taxes. Since there will be no witholdings you should pay quarterly to avoid potential fines. She might want/need to get a business ID and call it a sole proprietership. Then she can get a business membership at Sam's Club. Now yer talkin free coffee. She could be a minority women owned business which in some things helps. My wife has worked as a contract nurse practitioner without incorporating. She did have malpractice, but there is more risk in medicine stuff. She tecnically was an independent contractor (although she would have failed the criteria, but that was her employers issue, they get to avoid FICA I think it is). I'd be cautious about using a part of your house as an office. You can deduct routine expenses like the supplies, phone, internet, but when you toss a room into the mix things get more complicated. Essentially you depreciate part of your house and have to revalue at sale. You can read about that being a flag to the IRS, but my issue with it is when you go to sell it, things can get ... more complicated. Maybe that's less of an issue in a declining housing market but the capital gains if you sell at a profit have to be dealt with. Personally, deducting office space never even made much $ sense. She just deducted supplies and phone stuff basically. Driving direct to her work is probably not a deduction. Keep in mind you can still charge off cars, computers, etc. The issue with the car is she probably uses it for personal and business purposes. Thus you have to split usage and keep records. As I recall, driving to your first business location from home isn't deductable. That may be wrong for a contractor, I forget. It's a little easier for say a drywall contractor to deduct his drywall pickup. I wouldn't worry about overcomplicating it unless she's making big hootin bucks, then get a tax CPA before a lawyer is my suggestion. Lawyers cost money and don't save much. Tax CPA might actually save you some booty. She would probably need bookkeeping anyway, unless you or a family member is really into something like Peachtree. You can use TurboTax and model different scenarios if you want to study car and house deductions. Plenty of info on the internet too. Note I'm not a lawyer or CPA so it's worth what you paid for it. Keep in mind that for her to stay equal they need to bump her hourly rate a bit since she will pay more taxes I think. Good luck IT
  13. Hi Winchester We seem to move around a lot and have both Verizon and Brighthouse. Both companies can be a real pain from time to time. Regarding your question, if you are correct in that you are not under obligation I would: 1) Not pay any fees 2) Request a copy of the contract that they indicate binds you, likely they can't find it. 3) Write them a letter saying unless they provide a contract you are witholding these fees. This is useful if you need to provide it to a credit agency down the road or show a judge in small claims court. Tell them in the letter you need proof of a contract. 4) Switch carriers and get on with life. 5) It's a pain but take notes, get names, record dates and communicate billing problems that don't get resolved in writing. They will probably lose anything you send them, that's to your advantage. If it's a big $ amount get a delivery receipt. 6) YOu have leverage when you are terminating, even more when installing, otherwise they have it as they can cut you off. I won't go into all the issues we have had moving around 5 times in 3 years. Suffice to say they aren't bad people but their systems just aren't as accurate as they would lead you to believe. You can call again right after a call and get a different answer. Documentation pays off. They lose returned equipment. Get receipts. They will try some intimidation and threaten. One of the dumber things recently was we had a modem and cable box, they said return it. Had to goto a special store about 10 miles away. So we found the special store drove there. The guy in the store said, nope, we don't want that back. We begged him to take it and he refused. Then we got a bill for lost equipment and my wife went ballistic. They eventually sent a prepaid mailer after trying to intimidate us into driving back to the store again. I used my see you in court one that time. It's very frustrating so I feel for you.
  14. Okay I'm not done. This got me ponderin .... 1968, I am sure, since I had no alcohol/drugs in my body to impair long-term memory formation, being about 12 years old and all, that my 3 favorite songs were - Heavy Music - Seger Journey to the Center ... - Amboy Dukes Hush - DP Uh huh, I'm pretty sure bout that. Those probably had replaced Snoopy and the Red Barron Along Comes Mary Possibly something by the monkees Yes, I led a sheltered life until I fell off the cliff of nomalicy and created my current state of self delusion. Then I found The Who Zep Floyd And eventually KHorns. Okay done now.
  15. I always loved "Child in Time" too and "Space Truckin". Seems a band I played in long ago played "Pictures of Home". Ahhhh, the days when you were dumb enough to actually load a Hammond B-3 in a van. Leslie and all. Somewhere I have a solo Ian vinyl album "Child in Time" I'll have to dig out. Has anybody seen the DVD Gillian's Inn? In April 2006 Gillan released a CD/multimedia project to document his 40-year career called Gillan's Inn. Tony Iommi, Jeff Healey, Joe Satriani, Dean Howard, as well as current and former members of Deep Purple such as Jon Lord, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Don Airey and Steve Morse are featured on this 2006 CD and DVD. The project includes a re-recorded selection of his Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and solo tracks. I might have to hunt that down. Thanks for the reminder....

  19. Greg's option is best Box em up Get 4 or 5 russians to carry them from MoTown to Grungetown Expect many payoffs along the route
  20. I think I would: A) Go pick them up rather than ship Get somebody to go pick up rather than ship If all that fails - 1) Get a few moving pads from UHaul store and wrap them 2) Get some sheet foam from Homer Depot and cut to fit 3) Build a plywood box around them 4) Strap or mount ot a pallet You might be able to buy the packaging inserts and shippers from Klipsch - no clue there. I believe in overkill perhaps.
  21. I luv it Don't forget "no warnings at all about the dangers of dusting them while operating (my swiffer caught on fire) " - you can use wet wipes but may get steam burns.
  22. Nice speakers and I like the wall color too! Enjoy....
