  1. Get well soon Justin. This world can't afford to lose someone of your integrity.
  2. Thanks again for all the suggestions. I decided to go ahead and give those Thiels a try. I was able to get them for less than I would've had to pay for a pair of used Heresy's. I am aware of their thirst for power, but I'l see what I can do. I won't be able to play them very loud, so that may not be much of an issue. If it doesn't work out, then it's not that big of a deal as they are only going to be a temporary music source for me while I am working a contract job away from home (and away from my Khorns). As long as they sound better than the harman/kardon computer speakers I have now, I probably won't complain too much. I did find them on Audiogon. I did look for Frazier also, but didn't seem to find much. I also considered those Fraziers for $250, but the timing just wasn't right for me. Had they been available now, they would likely be mine. Well, hopefully I can make these work out. In a way, I'm actually interested in trying out something that is pretty much the exact opposite of Khorns.
  3. Believe it or not, I haven't even been drinking...
  4. Sorry, accidentally hit the "submit" button twice.
  5. Sorry to hear of your loss. This may not make you feel better, but consider that you were fortunate. I never had a grandmother.
  6. Try a citrus based cleaner. They can work wonders with gooey stuff (not sure what type of grime you have though).
  7. Johnny, You've got Khorns. How much can you spend on some good amplification? You can get significantly better than an AV Receiver. Tubes are the way to go in my opinion. However, if you are only interested in HT, then an AV receiver is probably fine.
  8. For two channel, how about NO sub?
  9. http://www.tubeaudio.com/page23.html Don't know how good it is, but it is interesting. Since it is a 2-channel amp, it is even cheaper than the ASL Wave-8's. Noticed this mentioned on AA.
  10. By "Custom", I believe they are implying that they are homemade. I don't think those are Klipsch.
  11. The Edgar mods do sound interesting. I look forward to hearing more about them. VERY NICE looking Cornwalls. Tough to beat that for $60!
  12. Check: www.audiogon.com www.audioshopper.com www.audioreview.com and of course, eBay
  13. The price is probaby about the average going rate. In regards to the suitability of the KHorn in a HT environment, let me say that I have recently assembled my own Khorn-based HT using a Belle as center, Heresy's as surrounds, and a JBL Pro bass bin for LFE. It is unquestionably the best HT I have heard. Just yesterday I stopped by a dealer and saw their "reference" HT setup. It was based on Revel speakers. I don't know what the overall cost of the systems was, but the mains were priced at $12,000 per pair. They were playing Spiderman, which I have watched/heard on my own system. At least for HT (I didn't get to audition these with music), there was no comparision. Khorns win easily.
  14. Yes, Khorns are big, but not quite as big as the ones shown in Dale's photos. He has his Khorns sitting on essentially another top section of the Khorn. Although they are big, because they fit snugly into a corner, they really don't take up that much room. That's right, relatively speaking, Khorns really don't take up that much room! Find some with a nice wood veneer, and the WAF can actually be pretty good. Believe me, I've experienced that. Beware though, when you are moving them inside your house, they will likely freak out. But once you get them in place, and had a few days to get used to them in the corners, they are very easy to live with. In regards to the age of the speakers, don't be concerned with how old they are. Some people on this forum actually think the best Khorns were those built in from mid-70's to early 80's, while there are others that prefer the very first models (those built in the 50's!). It seems that these particular Khorns were built in 1971. I would say that the biggest concern should be with their condition. HDBR spotted some very important deficiencies in these speakers that I didn't notice, such as the missing tailboard. The side grills are merely cosmetic and don't affect performance, but are something you may still want to replace. I would suggest as HDBR did that you get very good information on the condition of these speakers before buying. At $1500, they could still be a good purchase, but that will really depend on their overall condition and how much of the repairs you are capable of performing. It would be ideal if you could get yourself to audition some Khorns first, so that way you know what to expect. Yes, there already are some forum members that get together to share each other's systems. I have heard of the horn clubs in Chicago and S. California. There is also the Dallas/Fort Worth Klipsch forum gatherings that have been going on for about a year now. Unfortunately, I have only been able to attend one of those gatherings. But at this particular gathering, there were some forum members that were able to see and hear Khorns for the very first time.
  15. Try using some of those citrus cleaners to take off the goo. They clean stuff quite easily.
  16. Thanks for all the great suggestions! I've actually been thinking about all of them, trying to see what can be found used. The RB-5 is one I've been thinking about for a while. That is approximately the size I'm looking for. However, I ran across a pair of low priced Thiels that are interesting. They are actually mini-towers, but they have a small footprint so I think I can handle the size. Yeah, these are almost the complete opposite sound of Klipsch, but that is probably what I'm looking for anyway since I will have to do all my listening at relatively low volumes. I have heard Thiels before and thought they sounded good.
  17. I second (or is it now third, fourth, fifth...) the Heritage recommendation. For less than $1500 you can easily find a set of Cornwalls that will do the job beautifully. However, I also agree with the suggestion to consider tube amplification. You want to hear horn instruments sound real, there is nothing better for that then horn speakers. Go with Heritage and tubes and you'll never regret it. By the way, I have some Venezolano friends. I hope things are getting better over there. Welcome to the best forum on the internet!
  18. Mobile, speaking of Eico, I read in a recent post (can't seem to find it now) that you might be selling one of yours. If that is the case, let me know as I might be interested.
  19. I am in need of finding a relatively small speaker system and would like to know if anyone has any good recommendations. I am looking for something under $400 or so, so used is the way I'm planning on going. Heresy's are bigger than what I'd like. They don't have to be Klipsch but they should sound good at relatively low volumes. I'm kinda thinking something on the order of monitor-type speakers.
  20. So sorry to hear about this Dean. Sure hope things turn out ok.
  21. They look about the size I envisioned. It does seem that only four of the bass modules are shown. The photo on the AG website has six of them. Width does seem to be around six feet or so, which is about what I imagined. Don't think SVS are anywhere near this size. P.S. In regards to their "specs", or that of any other speaker, you can't determine sound quality from "specs".
  22. James, I have Khorn mains with a Belle center. I am currently using Heresy's as rear surrounds. I am only using them as the room they are currently in cannot accommodate anything bigger. My future plans are to use Khorn rears if I can get a room with the right corners. If not, then La Scalas are the next choice. I must admit, the Heresy's do sound good -- probably better than I expected considering they are being used with Khorns and a Belle. But my recommendation is to get Heresy's at the very least, if at all possible.
  23. DougDrake, you might want to invest in one of these: http://www.overheaddoor.com/Product_Index/Home_Products/Garage_Door_Openers/Overdrive/overdrive.html It might save you some money!
