  1. I wasn't expecting much when I changed from 5.1 to 7.1 but was surprised at how much the rears added. If you can fit the Fortes for your rears go with that, if not the KG4s. If you go smaller you will loose a lot of the rear bass. My system is a bit bigger than yours but I tried KG4s in the back at first, and then for fun swapped in the Fortes to see if it would matter much. It did and the Fortes stayed.

For sale is a used but good condition Behringer DEQ2469 processor with the matching ECM8000 calibration mic. Both are 3 to 4 years old with moderate use. No scratches or dings and working fine. I have attached 4 easly removed small felt pads to the bottom since I didn't rack mount it. An excellent tool to help with room issues and to my ears a nice sounding DAC as well. Since I moved my K-horns to the basement which is acoustically a much better space I just haven't needed it anymore. Price for the pair is $200 OBO
  4. My experience as well. Part of me wants to like the sound of my turntable better, and it does sound very good, but at this point well recorded digital material sounds better on my system. For romance, vinyl, for clarity, dynamics, range, etc. digital.
  5. KG4s are a fine speaker and Bob Crites sells a nice titanium diaphram for the tweeter that really is a nice inexpensive upgrade. Sure, there are better Klipsch speakers out there, all for a much higher price, but the KG4 is a solid speaker and a great value. You should be able to get a pair for $200 max, probably a good deal less. Even though I have better in my basement I am always happy to listen to the KG4 KG3 system we have in the livingroom. I am always pleased with overall sound.
  6. I have a Canadian built Ideal Innovations Elite 80 tube amp that I am thinking of parting with. 20 watts per channel and dead quiet with my La Scalas and K-horns. I would be willing to do $350. Link to manufacture's website. http://www.idealinnovations.biz/elite80+.htm
  7. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57574718-37/apple-sued-over-sound-tech-by-george-lucas-thx/ Be intersting to see if this has any merrit or just gold digging. Either way I am sure it puts a smile on the face of Samsung.
  8. Came across this comercial while watching the news.
  9. Recently got a Pioneer VSX-1122 for my second system. Lots of features and good sound with my KG3 KG4 setup. $359 at Amazon, maybe even less at Newegg. If you can afford a couple hundred more the SC-1222 is even better.
  10. I am using a single KG3 between my KG4s. Sounds great.
  11. I have a nice Yaqin tube phono preamp. There is no phono input,on the Pioneer and even if there was the Yaqin is really nice sounding.
  12. A cinema F20 is a great home built sub. Solid to 20hz, does movies and music well, and easy to build. Only downside is that it is very big. If you have the room for it you can't do better.
  13. [Y] The Pioneer SC-1222 sounds great and is a bargain at $550. The VSX-1122 is a nice unit too.
  14. Nice looking pair of 1985 La Scala. Price is a bit high, $1250, but ... No affiliation. http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/ele/3654134370.html
  15. No direct experience but if the price is right give them a try. Onkyo generally gets good reviews here.
  16. Back in December I bought a Pioneer SC-1222-K receiver for my basement K-horn/La Scala system and was blown away with how good the sound was. My upstairs system was very cumbersome to use for my wife and kids with a tube amp and preamp and other boxes and switches to get it up and running, so I decided to try another Pioneer receiver, the VSX-1122-K. The 1122 is a notch lower in the line-up, the the big difference in the amp sections. The 1222 has the "D3" class D amps, where the 1122 is traditional class AB design. Well I have to say I am very pleased with the sound it is getting from my KG series speakers (KG4 left/right, KG3 center) and tuba table sub. We watched the Red Violin the other night after I got it all dialed in and the sound is very good Not up the basement system's standard but still better than I ever thought I would get out of the KG speakers. Once again, very happy with Pioneer! []
  17. Maybe your mic is not working properly? The mic that came with my Pioneer is not very impressive looking, though it seems to do the job. Maybe you got a dud.
  18. Take a look at the Crites A/4500 as well. You have to get his tweeters as well but it is a nice improvement to the upper mid range. The sound seems much more relaxed. I have wound up doing that to both my K-horns and La Scalas.
  19. Speaking as a professional orchestra player (bass trombone), Klipschorns! If you don't have the corners, La Scalas. I haven't heard any setup better for orchestra. I think it takes a horn to accurately reproduce one.
  20. I use MCACC with my HT. First I let the auto MCACC function do it's thing. After it has done its thing I check the settings and it lists the K-horns and La Scalas as large, and has the crossover to the Cinema F20 sub at around 100hz. Not optimal for sure, but I have achieved VERY good results by changing the K-horn and La Scalas to "small" and changing the sub crossover point to 50hz. My system is different than yours but this small tweak provides a great sound for my set-up.
  21. I sent Tromprof and you a PM with a link to some pic's and a drawing. THANKS!
  22. Thanks for the reply, this sounds promising. I love the way the system sounds now but the K-horn bass bin is all I am really using of the K-horn. Seems like a waste. If the MWM is good replacement I could get he K-horns back upstairs in the teaching studio.
  23. I have had a lot of fun the last couple of days reading about the MWM bass bin, and it looks like a fun project to build one. In my basement system I have a pair of Klipschorns with Volti Fc-260 mids with K55 drivers, Crites tweeters, and Crites A4500 crossovers. If I were to build MWM bass bins to replace the K-horn bass bins, how much modification to this setup would be required. Could I keep the crossover points the same? If I needed to lower the mid crossover point, how low can the K55 effectively go?
  24. This is the guy in Canada for Yaqin. I have delt with him and had good results. Don't know anything first hand about Dared but have owned a couple of Yaqin amps and have been very happy. http://stores.ebay.com/Canadian-HiFi-Online?_trksid=p2047675.l2563
  25. Enjoy! I think you will be surprised how much music content there is below what the k-horn reproduces.
