  1. Thanks for that reply and information about the Belle; I always enjoy reading the history behind the decisions that were made in doing these things in production. Roy had mentioned to me about turning it into a 2-way via email correspondence awhile back and Coytee mentions it quite frequently as do others. I do like the aesthetics of the Belle better than the La Scala especially for how my living room is laid out, and, I just love the Belle looks. I have all the parts to build a 3-way but can do either even if it makes the top section a tad taller to hold whatever horn is in there for the 2-way. Or, not do the top section and run it open. But I'd prefer it to have the stock look.
  2. Ok, so I'm deliberating on what would be required if I decide to go 2-way on the Belle. If I decide to buy K510/K691 (?), is there a passive crossover network I can work with or someone who has built one that would share the diagram? I don't really want to go active...I just want a passive network for running off of a single tube amp. What's the normal price out there for these parts? PM me if it's not allowed in the forum. Is the K510/K691 combo referred to, or ordered as, the KPT-904-HF? Another option is the Fatial Pro HF140 with the LTH142 horn. Bob Crites has mentioned he could do a passive 2-way for those as he uses something similar, or exact, in the Cornscala D. Again, I'm trying to keep this kind of reasonable. If I go 2-way, I'd just sell off all the other parts that make it a 3-way and keep the mnew K-33 woofers. I don't have golden ears anymore nor do I have the space to do a K402 horn in my living room. One day with the separate listening room will be another story. (next year hopefully) Hell, it could turn into Jubilee's then. Who knows...
  3. It does follow the tweeter after swapping sides. I was wondering at first if it was going to be the crossover network in some way. They still sound great but even with my less than stellar HF hearing, I can tell. I had my wife listen too and she confirmed; not awful but noticeable. Thanks foe that offer! Still pondering a pair of Forte 3's instead of building Belle clones. Just not sure. I know it's a completely different presentation.
  4. I had been using the VTA ST-70 since I'd finished the build back in February and had noticed it then too. I'd swapped output tubes and input tubes around with no change. So yesterday, I decided to hook up my horsepower amp back up; Carver M-1.0t MkII Opt 002 @ 460wpc. It definitely runs the snot out of them and sounds great doing it. The CF's love power. I may biamp them one day with the Carver on low end and ST-70 on highs since the Onkyo P-3000R has a handy dandy biamp level adjustment.
  5. I had seen those mentioned earlier when I was home for lunch and listening to the CF-3's and looking up diaphragms, etc. I know it will be tough to find something that will work the same as the K-63 but those might be a viable option. Sometimes I just want to sell off the older stuff I have an buy a new pair of Forte 3's and be done with it. Bought/built a new tube amp earlier this year (VTA ST-70) and just replaced my Carver C-1 preamp with BillD modifications with a new Onkyo P-3000R which has been great. I don't pay retail for anything stereo related; haven't in the past 30 years and won't now. I know 15+ Klipsch dealers over a 8 state area that I can call if need be. I wouldn't have bought a new P-3000R at retail, either so that was an easy choice for me to make. Decisions, decisions...
  6. I know my hearing is jacked up on high frequency but one has more upper HF than the other does. I've swapped RCA's and also swapped speaker leads around and it stays to the same (left) speaker. I guess when I get home tonight I'll swap the horn/driver from one cabinet to another to see if it follows the driver or if it's a potential crossover issue...which is doubtful. It's only been recapped and new Mills resistors. Guess we'll find out later if I need a new K-63-N a.k.a "needle in a haystack" in finding one, once in a blue moon, or, as John Candy said, "I''d probably stand a better chance of finding a 3 legged ballerina than finding a K-63" or "you've have a better chance of playing pick up sticks with your butt cheeks than finding a K-63". I know the EV drivers work but I like these just fine. You get the idea...
  7. But....but....but.....it's not been supported since 4/8/14 and is more vulnerable than iPad 2's on a school network! ha
  8. There's a pair of black Quartets on Little Rock Craigslist for $280 right now. I don't need 'em or want 'em.
  9. Yep, those are the only two versions I use as Onkyo has "proprietary" drivers that had to be installed on the PC before it would work. I agree about it being somewhere in the middle. I would think a decent cable with good shielding and nothing crazy would be all that's needed. I mostly fall into that camp about a digital cable not mattering to a certain extent. Length of cabling is what degrades. That's why HDMI has their standards for cable length as does USB. I believe USB is 16.4 feet. May just get a decent 6 foot cable and give it a whirl. Nothing too fancy but better than what comes out of the Cracker Jacks boxes.
  10. No friends in town that get into audio. Just my best friend of 40 years and that's only occasionally with a lot of my older gear that's been stored there since moving back here in 2010. He has no internet as his place (too far out) so it's all via Spotify or CD's he already has.
  11. I hope this isn't opening too big a can of worms like a speaker wire discussion but was curious what others have done. I play FLAC files from my computer which are stored on a NAS. The computer is hooked from a USB output to my new Onkyo P-3000R preamp with a generic "everyone has this USB around the house" kind of cable. Is it worth spending a little money on a "better" cable for any audio difference or would it be more so for shielding? (which I was thinking) I'd spend $20 to $40 on a cable if it was that much of a difference especially considering it's a new preamp wasn't cheap (compared to some) even if I did buy it at Rep Sample price. I'm a Network Administrator for the city I live in and was for a school district so I have LOTS of cables around. Just curious...
  12. I will retract and delete what I've written above. I'm not out to make enemies on a forum that I enjoy being a part of.
  13. It's a good amplifier....I've owned that and lots of others from that company. Still do. GLWS.
  14. Ok, the topic is about LS II's. Seems like you had older ones so they aren't in the same era as the II's. And that car anology you gave awhile back about the difference between 10 and 30 years being not that much different is rather dumb. It's a speaker discussion...not cars. Now if the LS II's looked like turds, that's another story of course. But if they are equal in their looks, the newer will be worth more but I doubt many 30+ year old speakers look "perfect" anymore. As far as not getting what you wanted... "Desperate times lead to desperate measures..." Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Move on In my opinion
  15. So far it's doing an awesome job although I don't really use much more than JRiver/flac files and Spotify and a couple of other streams. The PS3 is tied into it for when someone happens to rent a DVD (I don't do surround) or we want a game played louder (lol) It might be overkill for what I'm using it for but I'm glad to have a new 2-channel preamp that does the things I wanted/needed it to do and sound great doing it. I played around with a lot of vintage gear for about 15 years and had a lot of fun with it and made some money back on it along the way. I'm more interested in just listening to music these days although, if something vintage came along for the right price, I'd get it. I thought I might start on the Belle clones soon but it's been so freaking hot in the garage, I haven't been too worried about it. Plus, after finishing up on moms house remodeling after 4 months of weekends, there's other things around my own house I need to get done. Not to mention the last of the goods that came from her house (mostly mine) are in one half of the garage and I can't get to the table saw. :-/ Soon, though. Hell, I'd buy a pair of Belle's if a pair came up nearby but they don't too often. I've got "mad money" stashed back for my "hobby" that is separate from the joint funds. Then I'd just sell off the parts I have and call it good.
  16. As always....too far away from me. I'd buy those if they were closer. Just because...
  17. Unboxed... This thing is a beast! Right at 24 pounds and, thankfully, fits where the Carved did. Running through a few FLAC files on via the USB connection on some familiar tracks. Man, it sounds good. Bass seems more defined with lower tones, vocals are crisp and clear, and the staging is phenomenal. I'd say this was a very good purchase for sure. Built like a tank with solid RCA connections on the back and even adjustable bi-amp preouts so if you have amps without separate gains, you can balance them out. Sweet.
  18. It's too bad the website software can't compress them down automatically to a smaller size.
  19. 2 and a half days since the new preamp arrived, it's still sitting in its box in the garage. We worked on my moms house this weekend which finished up a 4 month long trek of weekends renovating the house to get sold. So, that was a priority over anything considering I already have a buyer for it. It'll be nice not having two mortgages over the last 5 months, though.... Same goes with building my Belle clones; I have all of the parts in house and ready to go but there hasn't been any time. She got sick, then terminally ill, which put all of that on hold, too. Once I can maneuver my way around the garage again and put all my tools back up from renovating, maybe I can get rolling. May do the preamp tonight....or maybe tomorrow at lunch.
  20. My daughters iPhone 6 has the same battery problem and it's a tad over a year old. Same thing happened with her 5. I think it stems back more to her erratic charging habits more so than the phone. My wife had a 6s that started having a battery issue around a year old but I got her a 7 last October and it's been fine. Never have had any battery issues with my Note 4 or the S7. Knock on wood...
  21. Do they seriously leave those 4 corner bulges on the grills and ship them out like that? For the money those and the F3's cost, I'd want the "no 4 corner nipple option" on mine spending that kind of money. Just saying.... Beautiful speakers, though.
