  1. I get to wondering about this comparison as I contemplate either purchasing the parts to build the Belle clones I've talked about for so long or buying a pair of Belle's. Since the Belle's are lacking in low end, without a sub (which I can do), and the CF-3's aren't lacking in low end, I contemplate the RF-7 II's now. I can get a pair of B-stock at cost from a dealer I've known for 30 years so they would be reasonable. Has anyone owned both sets where they can give a comparison of the CF series versus the RF-7 II's? I would imagine their low end is comparable being dual 10's but the RF-7's use rear firing ports versus the CF-3's front firing. I can back my CF-3's up against the back wall where I would imagine the RF-7's need to come out more. I'm about 12 feet back for listening position. Power won't be a problem for them as I have up to 460wpc from my Carver M-1.0t. I've read only a couple of reviews where they thought the efficiency wasn't that great on the RF-7 II's although they are rated at 101db @ 1-watt. But I also know the CF-3's don't really seem to be their rated similar efficiency, either. I would think the RF-7 II's have a slight edge in the top end as their HF is at the top of the speaker in comparison to the CF-3's being in the middle at a lower point. I keep my CF-3's tilted to account for this and, at the distance I'm from them, it works well. What say ye? Would it be a noteworthy upgrade from CF-3's to the RF-7's? Or, would a full loaded Belle clone setup be more the cats meow?
  2. I've got an older Denon AVC-3020 amplifier that's 80 x 2. It's a surround amp but wouldn't really matter for that part. Toroidal transformer, preamp out, phonograph input, etc. No remote control, though, but a universal would work.Selling for $80. Also have a 25 lb Denon DCD-2560 but that would be over budget. I'm in Searcy, AR.
  3. I believe I would leave the Heresy's in more of a home setting and get some type of Peavey cabinets (or the likes) in some towers with more bass. Something like the Peavey Impulse 1015 (15" woofer and compression driver for highs) will rock and can be found used pretty reasonable. But, on a limited budget, that may not work. There's many others out there and you may end up killing the Heresy's as they don't have the protection like their KP201 brother. Just my $.02. YMMV.
  4. Open to trades. Will need some mids/highs for the Belle project. :-D
  5. What about these... He might ship. About 1.5hrs from me. https://littlerock.craigslist.org/ele/5603694867.html
  6. Do they need to be "actuals" because the originals are gone from yours? If so, I could understand that but if you're just adding them, I wouldn't think it would make much difference as it wouldn't be factory.
  7. Yeah, that's definitely doable. I was hoping there might be someone down south that could look at them for me but may be a long shot.
  8. 7.5 hours one way trip for me. That's really nothing overall. I was a manufacturers rep for 9 years and spent a lot of time behind the windshield. I could leave at 3am, be there by 11am maybe, and back home right at sunset. Is anyone on here down that direction that could go look at these in person for me? Hmmm.... To buy or to build...
  9. What are the actual serial numbers on the tags? Is there any veneer missing or is it just nicks? Any more pictures of them?
  10. Wow.... You are coming up with some smoking deals lately! It's a possibility that there are lighting elements, or bulbs, on that preamp display that could be out. Or even a fuse. My dad had a bunch of NAD and Adcom gear thru the years and I want to say he had an issue like that on a cd player and was easily fixed. But you got your remote preamp and good power now. Awesone finds!
  11. I also have a Denon AVC-3020 80wpc Dolby Pro Logic amplifier and Denon TU-660 tuner that match the CD if interested.
  12. Well, since I don't use a separate CD player anymore with all my CD's being ripped to FLAC on my music server, it's time to let go of my Denon DCD-2560. This thing is definitely a beast at a tad over 23lbs but it's no problem to ship it and ship it properly. This player works very good and sounds great and is in stock form. No belts, capacitors, etc., have been done so it's ready for hot rodding if someone so desires. I have the RC-214 remote control for it which does control volume. The owners and service manual are both available from the Hi Fi Engine at the link below as I don't have the originals. The CD drawer needs that little extra push at the end to make sure it's in all the way which. if I recall, a belt should fix? http://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/denon/dcd-2560.shtml Asking $225 plus shipping (via PayPal gift payment) in the CONUS only. Please let me know if any questions.
  13. Nice Denon DCD-2560. I've been thinking about selling mine as I never use a separate CD player much anymore.
  14. I agree...the Heresy 2's do sound nice and I'd thought about that before with cabinets in the past. I've already owned 3 sets of early model Heresy's and one set of Heresy 2's but sold them all. Just had too many speakers around and still kind of do. But, if I'm going to build something, I'd rather have a larger set of speakers right now. Definitely love the way the CF-3's sound. Even if my HF hearing capability is shot from about 12KHz and up (blame it on 80's concerts, playing in bands and being in car/home audio).
  15. Really, the only reason I mentioned the Heresy 2 drivers is because I picked up a pair of Heresy 2's that someone painted white and look rather rough. But, I'll most likely fix up the Heresy 2's and sell them to pay for mid and high drivers and horns for the Belle project. For starting out, I may end up with Selenium drivers and horns. Possibly the D250-X with an HM25-25 and the D220ti with the HM17-25 horn. Those would both fit in the top hat section of the Belle cabinets no problem. I don't think I'll be able to come across any K500 horns anytime soon.
  16. Well if you find a set at a decent deal, let me know and I just may make a road trip!
  17. Haha....never hurts to ask but it was definitely in good humor. I wouldn't trade that gear for a laptop, either. Keep an eye out for older Mitsubishi gear like the DA-A7DC at 75wpc, DA-A10 at 100wpc and DA-A15 at 150wpc. Those have been on my radar for some time now....kind of like Belle's. But both seem to elude me in this area.
  18. Wanna trade those for a laptop? Very nice find and a great price. I sold that series years ago and they were always stellar performers. I know what you mean about remote control; I just enjoy having it. I've got an older Carver C-1 preamp that's been completely rebuilt (200+ resistors and caps, IC's, new RCA's out back, etc) that sounds amazing and I also had remote control volume and mute added to it. Also had my Carver M-1.0t major updated with lots of new innards. Now makes 460wpc versus 200 and is dead quiet on the CF-3's.
