  1. Greg You really did another top notch job on those babies, I tried dropping an email through the site but I am not set up with outlook express. I would like to say a couple of things, one that I really enjoy reading about your restorations. It brings me back when I first read about the rosewood ones you did a while back, at first I was funny about re veneering but then I realized that sometimes that's all you can do. I stumble on your site before I came a member to the the forum, now I glad I get the chance to follow what you do when you do it. Its neat to see the transformation from original stock khorns to completely redesign, with the enclosed backs, new networks, and your v-track mid horn with different drivers, and tweeters. Were the different drivers and networks the customers orders or are they necessary for your v-track mid horns, also I know I have seen some websites about the alk networks are those ones your design or did you get them from another site. Man so many questions to ask so little time. But just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to post the pics for us around here to see what you do since we cant be there in person and all. Nick
  2. I'd get a tarp. That's all I have since I haven't made that journey yet. Good luck with the trip hope all goes well. duder
  3. Better not let JC see he will making his wife very unhappy with some of those. monstrous just monstrous. Looks like something everyone would want it their home, I know I would. duder.
  4. Wow that's a long time, I couldn't see my self working for a company that long. That's some serious dedication, congrats on the ten year. duder
  5. Ah very nice, those are the same year as mine and they sound awesome looks like yours have different crossover networks(wonder if you could ask for different ones when ordered). I would try as hard as I could to keep them stick them in the garage attic somewere will she will forget about them, or like someone said if she wants them gone she has to carry them out(hopefully shes not a body builder).
  6. I think its very settle, not too wow im yellow. looks nice. nick
  7. I have been seeing this post for a moment now and just now got the time to read it and all I can say is wow that is really cool(my wife would never go for it.). So Hobie do you feel like a youngster again listening to movies on the same speaker that you did back at your hometown(by the way were at in KY you from I have family in the western part, my moms there know). Your system looks nice I feel for you in your subdivision hope you can find a home you can build a theater of your dreams in. good job reconditioning those they look really nice. I too just had a couple of theaters here in Omaha close down I tried to score some audio gear from them but all ready spoken for great job all together have fun and let us know how it sounds. duder
  8. This is why I need to have a secret audio fund.
  9. I think its a 40k pot so 20k would be the center but soon as I get to 19.7 something it goes out. but I just replaced the 3 wires from the pot to board and that took care of one of my problems with some static. So I will get the ohm meter back out tomorrow and recheck to try and set to flat. thanks for your help if i still cant get it I will hit the technical section, just thought that was for speaker to amp comparison but now I know. once again I greatly appreciate your help. nick for know I will critic my work and have a little listening r and r
  10. thanks for the reply, but one of the problems is I dont have knobs for the bass, and treble and since they are split between left and right its hard to turn both at the same time. Also I plan on up grading to a pre amp in mind that dosent come with tone conrtols so I wanted to get an idea how it sounds flat. thanks nick
  11. So I have this Dynaco pat-4 that's bone stock all original, which my only attentions were to use this for the chassis for another preamp diy kit. But for know I need it to work its best until I save up some dough. I believe the treble Potentiometer has gone bad cause after about half way it goes to 1 . on my ohm meter, but any who what I am trying to do is set bass/treble to flat so I can get an Idea how this will somewhat sound when I do the diy kit which has no tone controls on it. So if any of this is making any since what I want to do is take out the potentiometer and put in a resistor to basically make it a flat signal, all the time. I have a wiring diagram if that helps. thanks any help appreciated duder
  12. thanks for all replys and really good infor(jacksonbart I wouldn't know what to do without that info) even after reading some other post about just tone arms sounds like this turntable thing is a hobbie within a hobbie. I think I have an idea wear to start. so once again thanks for all the help and ideas. Pauln all these things you talk about Is what I like about this hobbie the adjustmenst, engineering etc then finally setting back and enjoying. nick
  13. Looks good Russ, I like the contrast of the black and rosewood.
  14. I figured it out. NEW MADNESS. building one big @$$ pa one speaker at a time. duder
  15. I called one of the local shops they said they have a Garard I didn't ask which model but they only want 40.00 for it. I might go look at it this weekend does anyone know if it will take any good carts, tonearms. they seem pretty cheap on ebay are there any brands to look out for as in not to get. thanks nick
  16. someday I whish to upgrade to one of those but I came across these for what I believe was a good price, and It would give me a chance to check a couple different brands, giving that the other two are direct driven I probably wont put to much into them. Since my technics is all ready useable, If I can get a descent cart, plus belt for the marantz I will probably compare the two of them one plus with the marantz it all ready has a dust cover which is a plus over my technics. So if anyone wants to buy the pioneer or jvc let me know they are for sale just name your price, plus the cost of shipping let me know. thanks nick
  17. this all gives me a good start, are most tone arms and cartridges universal if so any that you recommend. sort of that's one reason I asked if the cartridges are universal, I've seen that there are two styles of cartridges. But back to that question I have all 4 in my hands. So in a way yes I can but don't really want to put a lot of money to all of them just the one I want to keep. You guys are right cartridge can get pricey. So I will have to look around. thanks for the input from all Nick

  19. Now I have a feeling a lot of this is going to come down to owners preference. But what are some things maybe one turntable than the other can offer such as upgradeable tone arms, stylus, cartridges, etc... Also is belt drive better than direct drive or vise verse, what is with what seems to be counterweights on the end of the town arm. The reason I ask is that I have 4 turntables to choose from technics sl-27bd, marantz 6100 which is belt driven, Pioneer PL-4 which is direct driven, and last a JVC L-A11 direct drive which also is direct drive. Now the marantz is neat looking with the wood base, but all in all they all have some cosmetic issues which doesn't effect me that much just wanted to know if anyone has owned any of these models or even brands and maybe some things I should look at. thanks for inputs nick
  20. I was talking about the ss 120, but sounds like everyones opinion says it sucks. thanks for all the input guys.
  21. I say the complete opposite take a sledge to it and deal with any problems later, especially if you plan on staying there long. If your doing it to benefit you just fork out a few bucks to fix up the corner, flooring, drywall, pipe caps, etc. then you have more space for your system, plus it might be the reason for that drain that keeps clogging and you could fix that while your at it. Actually dont listen to me I've had a couple of drinks all ready to day. duder
  22. I recently too am going through this, like I've said in past post I am a metal head at heart grew up on slayer, pantera,etc.. but wouldn't be there if never introduced to bands like black sabbath, ac/dc, etc... only thing is I lately have problems listening to any ac/dc with brain johnson. But back to the subject I have gotten on this kick of what sounds good on vinyl and let me tell you i enjoy sitting back and relaxing with some soothing jazz and a good ale alot lately at night. seems to calm me down a bit before bed. duder
  23. I've got it, the fever that is I bought my Heresies a little over a year ago, then recently bought my Cornwalls, next is the Lascalas then K-horns. Don'T know if I will ever get any Belles. I think I am glad I started with Heresies, cause If I started with K-horns I would be in this situation.
  24. Just picked one up for a good price(actually its being mailed to me) but was wondering if there were any upgrades on this haven't got a chance to ask any of the great guys on lots of the dynaco websites but wanted to know if I should stick with my Kenwood genrall 2 amp or what ever the model is. But if theres anything that I could do to make the dynaco better or maybe a better sound quality, let me know. Or should i just dump it. thanks for any input. duder
