  1. Just wondering, where did you find the stock cabinets and what did you give for them? I just purchased a set of early 1980's LaScala cabinets that need LOTS of work for $165.
  2. The insurance company did pay the policy limit of $5,000 on contents. So they did the right thing. I can't say anything bad about Travelers. They were quick to respond after I provided a replacement quote. I am looking forward to the project. Hey, I saved a set of LaScala's from the dump and I am learning a lot about one of my favorite speakers. Plus I get to play around. I'm reading on LaScalas. I ran across a post that was interesting. It valued "Crate" (handles, corner guards, etc) LaScalas higher than a home pair. I am wondering why? Anyway, I plain to have fun with these. At $165 for both cabinets, I can't go too wrong. Just REALLY wish the guy had discovered the upper access before he tore the bottoms out.
  3. I'm in Shreveport, LA. I purchased a set out of Springfield, MO. They will need a lot of work but the price was right. I'll post pictures when I'm done. The current owner knocked to bottoms off to remove the driver. After I get them in my workshop, I will determine if the bottoms can be reattached or if new bottoms need to be fabricated. They also have carrying handles and corner protectors. I plan on removing both of these and patching them. After that, I plan to sand, prime and paint them in black lacquer. codewritenfool suggested I remove the upper access panel and close off the back of the HiFi section and add ports up there. May try it. It shouldn't be too hard.
  4. Travelers paid the policy limit of $5,000 on content once they received the quote on a new pair. And I got to keep the speakers. I'm chasing down a pair of LaScala cabinets now for $165. (plus $300 transportation) Hopefully I can get them and put the components in them. I won't feel so bad about the Bob Crites rebuilt crossovers and tweeters going to waste.
  5. Totally weird you posted about the MWM. I started searching for a pair of LaScala and ran across a guy selling two pair and a set of MWM's. I would have had no idea what they were. I'm tempted to buy them in case I ever open a concert venue. lol. Thanks again. Always looking to learn something new.
  6. I really wished I loved closer to some of you on this thread. I would like to hang out for a few weekends and learn about tub amp construction. I ran across this thread when I searched to forum for Magnavox Amp 175-67. I wanted to learn more about removing one from a console and rebuilding. I must admin, I am a bit overwhelmed and in awe of ya'll.
  7. Here is the insurance paperwork. I was incorrect. $131.52 is the value of the speaker.
  8. Thanks. He was supposed to send me some pic's via text. Never got them, but they are just as he described. It's about a 16 hour drive for me (round trip).
  9. Thanks!! I sent him an email. I'll let you know what he says.
  10. dtel - I ran out of room, so I put them in the hanger. I did have some false walls built for them though. They were a little echo-ish. I ran them on a Marantz 2330B. The LaScala would fit in my home office or my office, same for the Cornwall. I just don't see another pair of K-horns in my future for a while. I need to take the K-22 out of the bottom cabinet before it starts to rust from the humidity. The top has enough air circulating that I'm not worried.
  11. The issue is that the policy is depreciated value, not replacement. Every other policy I have is replacement value. Unfortunately, my partner did this policy. I may give it a shot though.
  12. OK. Thanks. Now where to find LaScala cabinets?????
  13. AA crossovers are what are in the K-horns now. Bob redid them in January of 2016.
  14. Last month my hanger flooded, and with it I lost my K-horns. The insurance company (travelers) is giving me $400 for the K-horns. Yep, that's it. The cabinets are JUNK, but the components are good. In fact, last year Bob Crites redid the crossovers and I replaced the K-77 with his horns. Anyway, I have some great components now that need a new cabinet. Sad thing is Hope is 60 miles to my north. Anyway, I am wondering if anyone has ever done a K-horn to LaScala conversion? If I am going to have to build new cabinets, the LaScala or Belle cabinets would fit my lifestyle better. What are the differences in the components? I know the crossovers are different, but how much different? Am I crazy for thinking this? I don't have room for the K-horns in my current house, which is why they were in the hanger. Heck what about going to a Cornwall cabinet????
  15. Wow...Just WOW! They look great. I am talking with a guy about a pair of late 70's Lascala's in raw birch. Hopefully, they will be mine soon. In the last pictures it looks like you outlined the grills in black wood frame. Is that right or just an effect of the photo? What was the total project cost? I cannot believe how great they look. I am green with envy.
  16. Wow. I thought is was just me. Thanks for the post! I had not visited the site for a few months and was shocked at the new site. Passwords work SOMETIMES then nothing. The new site is lousy and the hit meter shows. Steady decline.......Sorry to see it go. It was a great place to go to find things.
  17. OK. I think I am settling for a Thorens TD 150. It's all stock. It's Old School and quality. The price is right and it appears to be a good basic platform. Many possible upgrades available if I want to tweak it later. New arm, new feet.......wait, lets just see what we get. Maybe I will be plesantly suprised with whats in the box. Comments?? Recomendations??
  18. Looking for some direction here. I am wanting to buy a turntable. Budget $200 to $400. Vintage or New? Direct Drive or Belt? Like the Marantz 6350's, but also like the Technics SL1200 (sold mine 8 or so years ago). Thought about Thorens then my thoughts go to some vintage linear TT. Planar P3..smooth, clean, plain. Any thoughts???
  19. I am looking for advice on a Gym / auditorium speaker setup. I have several extra pair of Klipsch speakers and want to donate one set to my girl’s school for a loud system. This is for a school gym where they have musical programs. I imagine attaching eye bolts to the speakers and hanging them from the rafters. This is a full size basket ball size gym with 25 to 30' ceiling. Any advice? Will heresy's be enough? Will LaScalla's be too much? Will Forte's fall apart if hung from eye bolts? Surely there are enough of you out there that have hung these in similar settings. Thanks!!![8-)]

  21. Does anybody have any experience with Yaqin tube amps? I see these on eBay in the $200 to $500 range. How do they sound?
  22. Hi everybody - I am looking to experiment in tube amps. I have never had one and want to try one out. I am on a small budget $500 to $750. My current set up is a MA6500, MVP841 and a MR7084 paired to Forte II's. I just want to try something new. I have been pondering a MA-225, but they are out of my range currently. Any ideas out there? Thanks. I look forward to reading what ya'll think!
