  1. Frank, I'll take 2. They will work great for my front to effect speakers on RX-V1(35wx2). Just send me an email and tell me where to send the check. EJ
  2. Avman, Sweeeet avatar. I wish I'd have thought of that first, subliminal that is. I must go, for some reason I feel the need to go torch the local jerkit city speaker inventory. EJ
  3. No problem Consider it done. Sweeeet. EJ
  4. Justin, I hate to say it but your going to be so busy meeting new people and chasing girls you are not going to have alot of time to appreciate your speakers anyway. Go to school and take a little something thats small and live with it. If after one year you can't stand not having a great system in the dorm then make the decision. If you are going to live in the dorms I think you will find that you spend very little time in your room. We all go to college and plan on spending hours in our rooms studying, etc. The fact is it just does work out that way. Take the amount of time you think you will spend listening to your speakers each week, cut that in half, divide it by 5, and find the natural log of the total. That is how much time you will spend listening, the same also applies for how much you will spend on homework especially the first year. EJ
  5. Z, I got it off some kids website and I truly cant remember what the link was. Anyway it seems like all of the ones I found online were not in GIF form so I had to download some freeware to transfer it over to gif. I'll email you one let me know if you like it. EJ
  6. Thanks Guys Thats really the kind of information I was looking for. I just didn't really know if it was wven worth my time to mess with this thing. Like I said it has been sitting underneath boxes packed away since I picked it up. Now that I am thinking about getting a couple SVS's I thought maybe I could use it to run them but maybe not. Even if I do get it going the thing is huge and will probably be major overkill. I knew if I posted this in the 2 channel forum I would get the answers I was looking for I just had to figure how to extract the information from y'all. 1.) Start with question about non-tube equipment. 2.) Swallow any pride you may have and sit back and let the posters rip all over you. 3.) Admit your ingnorance by apologizing for invading the 2 Channel board 4.) Now that eveyone feels sorry for your misfourtune of not owning any tube equipment and thus they realize that you were merely trying to get the facts from the experts they will lend some constructive advice thus confirming their intellegence and more humanistic qualities. LOL Thanks guys. Anyone looking for a good boat anchor? EJ
  7. Homeless, PS - Thanks for the inspiration for my new closer.
  8. Sorry Homeless can't do it. Khorns gotta stay with the 5.1. Weather in a 2 channel or HT setup the Khorns are still the sh!t and they work so great Corns on the rear. I should've known what I getting into by posting something about Cerwin Vega in the 2 Channel Forum. LOL as I walk away with my tail between my legs. I don't think the CV is a cheap piece. Its a rack mount with an attractive face and a huge power supply and caps. What is it about this amp that has you all so convinced that it is a peice of crap. If it has a decent PS which is where all of the cost is what will keep it from sounding decent? I fart in your general direction. EJ
  9. Do I sense alittle bit of sarcasm here or is it just me? All kidding aside, I bought this thing along time ago and picked it up for very little money. I figure if CV rates it at 900wpc it ought to be good for at least 100wpc of good clean power. My intent now would be to use it to drive a pair of SVS's. I dont think I would need or want to use it on the Horns. As for what preamp did I use I believe I used a cheap Sansui Preamp and I also tried it with an old Pioneer DS-509 reciever on the pre-outs. It didn't work worth a sh!t with either one of them. If I have time I think I am going to preamp it with the RX-V1 tonite and check on the horns. Get this, this thing will accept a 220 input. If I can get it going I may be able to recreate the story HDRBuilder told about the 10,000 watt shin-dig. EJ
  10. Mobile, My bad, I didn't mean I don't like Axis it's just not my fav. I love castles made of sand as it is probably one of my favorite Jimi tunes, I also really like If 6 was 9, Little Wing and Spanish Castle Magic. I really do prefer his Live stuff over the studio work. Does anyone own Jimi Hendrix-Blues or SOuth Saturn Delta? I would like to hear someones opinion on these albums. Track 2 on Blues "Born under a Bad Sign" is awesome. It has an awesome bass line.
  11. I have a Cerwin Vega A-1800 2 channel amp(2x900wts) sitting around collecting dust. I am not sure what year it is but I think it is from the 80's. It is huge. It has a massive power supply and the caps are the size of pop cans. I picked it up about 8 years ago from a pawn shop but it has necer really worked right and I am not sure what is wrong with it. I am contemplating if I should take scrap it or try to get it fixed. It does work but under fairly light loading it starts to clip. The caps appear to be hoding a charge because the speakers will run for about a 10-15 seconds after you shut it off. I had it load tested once by an "unauthorized" tech and he said that it was handiling as much load as he could give it. When it clips it makes kind of a silicony sound it is not a massive clip because I can't get any real volume out of it. Can anyone help? Has anyone ever had any expirience with this amp? What is this thing capable of? EJ
  12. Did some one say cool South Park avatars? EJ
  13. Craig, I don't have a RSW-15 but I do want the SVS's. Lets talk. Email me at erikjohn@hotmail.com. EJ
  14. I hear you man. I think we all go through the same frustrations, it goes with the territory. I am interested in both SVS's. Email me @ erikjohn@hotmail.com and maybe we can work something out.
  15. The aggrevation and frustration expressed by those who want personification without animation is an abonimation probably caused by constipation due to lack of vegetation. Can I get an AMEN from the BB congregation? Just kidding, seriously though the animations are a neat way to express and add flare to the BB. I guess I don't see what the big deal is. They don't seem to affect loading times on my home 56k connection. EJ
  16. I was just at the site yesterday looking at SVS Ultra myself. It looks like it is just a single rca plug. The length of it looks like you would probably use it from the Samson to the SVS but you could use it for whatever you wanted.
  17. I wanna be freak or atleast insane. I got a demotion from my 65 posts before the change to a pathetic 40 some. Hey I have been part of this board since 2000, it took me a long time to get to 60 some posts. If I do the math they took aabout 235 days worth of posts away from me. I would settle for Lurking Quietly. Bob G can you make it happen?
  18. Yea I think that would definitley work and probably make things a whole lot easier. It's gonna be a while before I do any more upgrades though, I jsut got the RX-V1 and bought the Khorns about 2 months ago and right now we are building a new addition to house the gear. I can't wait, fully dedicated Theater/Music room, block walls, 9 foot ceilings, 25'x 30'. I don't have the Khorns in corners now as there is no place for them so I cant wait.
  19. You gotta love the new option to use our own avatars, it gives us some personalization. Justin got the lopp, not infinity but about 6500 times which should suffice. Mike you may have had him first on the BB I have all the icons on my work computer SP. I got a Cartman theme going on here. Anyway can we ever really get too much of Eric acting like Eric, gotta love him. Anyone out there that wants to make their own i downloaded Michealangelo and CYD Gif to make the Sweet Dance. I was able to get the frames from a website, =edited them in Michealangelo and imported them into CYD GIF. Got both programs from Download.com and newfreeware.com respectively. I have some other cartman antics such as on big wheel as cop, eating cheesie poofs, flipping you off, as a lesbian munching carpet, etc but they need to be transfered to the gif files. Let me know if your interested and I will email them to you. Later EJ
  20. I would probably say the problem isn't from underpowering it, probably the other way around but still it shouldn't be doing that. Try using a harder solder that won;t melt until at a higher tem. Be careful though, I would use a heat sink on the speaker sider of the wire when you solder to ensure you dont damage the cone. ALso need to make sure you get the post hot enough to make a good bond. Maybe your not melting but overextending the woofer. Possible a a woofer made for a enclosed box and you are using a poted box? I have tore the wires right out of the cone in a car system before. Good Luck.
  21. Got it! Had to add one more frame to the sequence, a repeat of the first one. Unfortunately the BB deosn't keep the loop going, it only plays it once then stops it. Oh well I still like it better than my old static kenny. EJ
  22. He dances but I can't get him to turn all the way around on the BB like he is suppose to. Any Ideas? EJ
  23. Please allow me to remove head from a$$. No, your right on the LFE/Low Freq thing out to sub. I was confusin myself there. Yes bass management in the amp will allow for front low bass and LFE to sub in Both modes. However it does not allow LFE to fronts, only in sub off mode. I was contradicting myself in my last post to what I was actually tring to say so I'll keep it short and sweet here. Both mode sends front low and LFE to sub with front setting on main only gets front lows to mains no LFE. In short on my amp there is no way to get Main Lows and LFE to sub AND MAINS at the same time without using Front Outs to sub by settiong bass management to mains and front speaker setting to large. Your whole from the subs perspective thing is on the mark, my bad. Also I am not using the sub out at all, all of the lows/lfe is routed thorugh the fornt pre out. Note that the khorn goes down to 33hz. If you have the time or the inkling try this and let me know what you think.
  24. Boa, For clarification and to keep from confusing myself I will refer to your responses with "Boa stated". I am not trying to be argumentative or condescending by this. Boa stated "this is where i degress. i think this the same as like "fronts+lfe" on any other receiver. that is its from the sub's perspective - IT gets low ba$$ from fronts set large as well as ALL the LFE (no LFE goes to fronts)." I disagree but I may be wrong. When you are listening in DD 5.1 the sub does not get front low frequencies unless Mains are set to small. When you are listening in Pro-Logic from a 2 channel source then yes the sub does get front low frequencies by default of the internal decoding in the reciever as Pro-logic does not have a .1 signal encoded in it. IE it is not a discrete signal it is derived. However there is also some grey area here, depending on whether the 2 channel signal is encoded with Pro-Logic or if it just a 2 channel stereo signal and the amp is deriving a center channel and adjusting the output of the front two channels by whi. Keeping in mind that Pro-Logic can be used with any 2 channel signal. Boa stated "only way LFE goes to the front speakers (terminals &/or preouts), is when you set "Main" which is like setting Sub:No on most other receivers. " I disagree here again. The LFE goes to the fronts when the the LFE is set to "Both" at least on the Yamaha. You are correct and I forgot to mention that setting the amp needs to be set to "no" for the sub this allows the LFE to be disbursed through the other channels if they are set to Large but my point here is not to be able to get the LFE through the front channel or the other channels for that matter, it is to get the Front channel low ba$$ to the sub while maintianing LFE and Front Channel Low Ba$$ in the fronts. Boa stated "keywords - subwoofer, mix, Main, low, LFE; that is the mixing is being done in the sub. not in the fronts. I think yammy is confusing people by calling low ba$$ "low frequency sound". but they don't mean LFE here. they mean low ba$$ from the other channels besides the .1 (Low Frequency Effects). can be pretty confusin." Yes, Yammy is confusing people here. I think in general we are too, well at least I probably am. Anyway you have been a very good critic of my logic, for that I thank you. I was being somewhat sarcastic in my 99.99% comments, these are merely with my expiriences. Boa stated "I think/hope you mean "sub output" in place of ".1 channel output" and "low ba$$" in place of ".1 channel". again, the dif between low ba$$ & LFE (.1 channel). ba$$ mgmt works w/ low ba$$. all ba$$ mgmt works w/ really is low ba$$. as far as LFE, it either sends it to the fronts only (MAIN), OR to the sub only (the other two settings)." Yes I do mean sub output I was just calling it .1 output for whatever reason, I am as bad as Yammy. Does your amp have a .1 output and sub output? Mine have always only had one subwoofer output(well the RX-V1 has three sub outputs Front-Rear-Mono) The amp figures out what will be sent out of the sub output depending on the source. I think there is some confusion here regarding this issue. Tell me if I am wrong here in these scenarios: Scenario 1 Source: 2 channel input via digital or analog (ie rca or pcm(opt/coax)) Speaker Settings: Front Large, Rear Large, Center Large, Sub On, LFE:Both Amp DSP/Mode setting: Pro-Logic What signal is set to sub output?: Low Frequencies that are derived from the 2 channel inputs. The Front speakers and the sub are reproducing the low frequencies. Scenario 2 Source: 5.1 channel input via digital or analog(6 rca cables) Speaker Settings: Front Large, Rear Large, Center Large, Sub On, LFE:Both Amp DSP/Mode setting: DD 5.1 What signal is sent to the Front speakers? L-R front decoded signal What bass is sent to the Front channels? L-R intrnal signal bass mixed with LFE bass due to "LFE Both" setting on the amp. What signal is set to sub output?: .1 LFE signal only Scenario 3 Source: 5.1 channel input via digital or analog(6 rca cables) Speaker Settings: Front Small, Rear Small, Center Small, Sub On, LFE:Sub Amp DSP/Mode setting: DD 5.1 What signal is sent to the Front speakers? L-R front decoded signal less LFE and Front Channel Low Frequencies What low freq is sent to the front channels? None What signal is set to sub output?: .1 LFE and all other 5 channels low freq Scenario 4 Source: 5.1 channel input via digital or analog(6 rca cables) Speaker Settings: Front Small, Rear Small, Center Small, Sub On, LFE:Sub Amp DSP/Mode setting: DD 5.1 What low freq is sent to the front channels? None below set range What signal is set to sub output?: .1 LFE and all other 5 channels low freq Scenario 5 Source: 5.1 channel input via digital or analog(6 rca cables) Speaker Settings: Front Large, Rear Large, Center Large, Sub Off, LFE:Main Amp DSP/Mode setting: DD 5.1 What signal is sent to the Front speakers? L-R front decoded signal plus .1 LFE signal What signal is set to sub output?: none Scenario 6 (Use Main Preout to Sub Input) Source: 5.1 channel input via digital or analog(6 rca cables) Speaker Settings: Front Large, Rear Large, Center Large, Sub Off, LFE:Main Amp DSP/Mode setting: DD 5.1 What signal is sent to the Front speakers? L-R front decoded signal plus .1 LFE signal What signal is set to sub output?: none What signal is sub receiving through main pre out?: Front channel low frequencies and .1 LFE Note: On recievers with a Main out AND Main in you will need to close the loop back into the amp by splitting the Main out L-R with 2 Y-connectors with one pair(L-R) of leads going to the sub and the other pair(L-R) going back into the Main In. This can also be done with an outboard eq or other components that have multiple inputs and outputs. Also this may not work on amps with a main out only as some may cancel the internal amp because the reciever has detected the use of an outbaord amp. Boa stated "actually in 5.1 as well, about all do mix the front/low bass from other channels set small w/ LFE in the sub, & when your fronts are set large & you use the "Both" setting. the only way its true that the sub gets no low bass from other channels is when you set the speaks large & the sub setting to LFE only (or the equivalent moniker by yammy)." I agree which is why I setup the way I have explained. Boa stated "but the bass mgmt dsp are configured to send low bass to the sub as well as LFE, unless you want to run speaks large. but then many of us have found poor bass by doing that, especially on 2-channel music." I agree here again which is why I don't do it that way. Boa stated "guess they leave it up to the mixers to put most of the low frequency sounds in 5.1 in the .1 channel/LFE & sub only so as not to muddy up the sub w/ both. at least not both to the sub at the same time." Yes but I don't like to leave it up to the mixers. An accurate sub with some good power is all over it. It's really no different than puttng the LFE through your Fronts there are just no mids or highs eminating from the same box. Also yes you can get things a little muddified overall in the system this way because of the overabundance of bass everywhere. This is why I equalize the the front channels. It lets me balance out the mids and highs with all the ba$$. Boa Stated ".1 channel is LFE & is a discrete channel. the receiver/dsp does not derive it from the material. the .1 LFE is already encoded on the material as a seperate channel. again, if you substitute "low bass" for ".1 channel you are correct." Ok clarification on my line of thinking: .1 = all low fequency signals sent from the amp through the sub output. LFE = Low Frequency Effects encoded in DD 5.1, DTS, Etc and is a discrete channel that the sub output discretly utilizes the .1 output when listening to these source materials .1 does not equal LFE The .1 in 5.1 does not mean that .1 signals are unique to the format nearly that the .1 channel is a discrete channel and not derived from the other 5. Dolby labs defines .1 as low frequencies out of 1 being the full harmonic range of a signal .1 being the low end of it. Please note that I don't think I ever used .1 and LFE together unless it was applicable. Boa Stated "that's pretty true, but again i'd use the term "sub output" in place of .1 output. stereo material doesn't have a .1 channel." Yes I understand that, but I still like my 4.1 stereo. Boa stated "I agree its confusing. But Ba$$ Management is probably the most complex issue in dealing w/ units & their dsp." Yeh tell me about it, maybe it is rocket science. I will check the NASA job directory to see if they have any "Ba$$ Management Engineers" that can help clear up some of these issues.
