  1. Well at last a civilized question. Those potty minds were making me ready to scream and simply flounce off to another thread. OK. Windex for glass except for Mac. Swifters to dust around tubes. Old English for most speaker finishes except use BLO (boiled lindseed oil) for...for..., oh my goodness I've simply forgot what it's for. Do a search on that one, plenty of info. That's a good lad. OK Ok... sorry about the tampon reference, but seriously, mini pads would work wonders on all of those leaky oil caps! []
  2. What if I don't have an inner Mister Clean ? I have a dust farm on most things electronic, until I worry about overheating then I clean, depending on the mood. Or until Mrs Dtel gets ready to lay the smackdown.... []
  3. You are correct Michael! Frank really knew how to rip! He probably was one of the all time best guitarists ever... Shame so many people just know him for goofy lyrics... What an extraordinary talent!!!
  4. I think the process of emptying the applicator, makes it unfit for this, or anything else. but thanks for the visual. We aims to please!
  5. While we are on Zappa, we can't forget: And now folks it's time for don pardo to deliver our special illinois enema bandit-type announcement take it away, don "this is a true story About a famous criminal From right around chicago This is the story of michael kenyon A man who's serving time at this very moment For the crime of armed robbery It so happened, that at the time of the robbery Michael, decided to give his female victims A little enema Apparently, there was no law against that But his name lives on Michael kenyon The illinois enema bandit!" The illinois enema bandit I heard he's on the loose I heard he's on the loose Lord, the pitiful screams Of all them college-educated women... Boy, he'd just be tyin' 'em up (they'd be all bound down!) Just be pumpin' every one of 'em up with all the bag fulla The illinois enema bandit juice He just be pumpin' every one of 'em up with all the bag Fulla the illinois enema bandit juice He just be pumpin' every one of 'em up with all the bag Fulla the illinois enema bandit juice He just be pumpin' every one of 'em up with all the bag Fulla the illinois enema bandit juice The illinois enema bandit I heard it on the news I heard it on the news Bloomington illinois...he has caused some alarm Just sneakin' around there From farm to farm Got a rubberized bag And a hose on his arm Lookin' for some rustic co-ed rump That he just might wanna pump Lookin' for some rustic co-ed rump That he just might wanna pump Lookin' for some rustic co-ed rump That he just might wanna pump The illinois enema bandit One day he'll have to pay One day he'll have to pay The police will say, "you're under arrest!" And the judge would have him for a special guest The d.a. will order a secret test And stuff his pudgy little thumbs in the side of his vest Then they'll put out a call for the jury folks And the judge would say, "no poo-poo jokes!" Then they'll drag in the bandit for all to see, Sayin' "don't nobody have no sympathy... Hot soap water in the first degree!" And then the bandit might say, "why is everybody looking' at me? 6. I suppose you could always use maxi tampon applicators for all of your smaller tubes... [+o(][+o(][+o(]
  7. And you would expect anything less from a bunch of guys who sit around and tweek their tweeters all day and night... [][][][] Honestly this is about the best bunch of guys you could ever hope to know, I hope you stick around and find that out FWIW the MC 250 or 2505 is an awesome amp!!! probably one of the best mac ever made.... If I were to put my biggest regret , it would be selling my 2505....
  8. Awesome!! Dude you look at least ten years younger also! Way to go....
  9. Lots on this subject already... but in a nut shell, SS amps and Tube amps all have their pluses and minuses. Some SS amps "sound tubish". Some Tube amps "Sound SS" . there is no better or worse, it just depends on the design of the amp and the synergy it creates in your listing environs. Long ago I used to be a big mac fan... Heck I used to think Bose 901's were good... until I really started listening. What I want is a system that is (to coin a phrase from Dave Mallete) "accurate" and just gets out of the way with no colorations , bloom, or boom....simply does what it is supposed to do, amplify a signal. I have many amps and truly enjoy good tube amps, as they seem to give me what I want.... not to say they're aren't great SS amps around, It's subjective. If you are buying an amp to retain it's retail value, the Mac will hold it's own.... But at the price point you are looking at, I feel that you can find many superior tube amps. NOS valves VRD's are the bomb! George Wright designs are amazing! Cary, Canery, Manly, and my absolute favorite Rogue Audio.... Lots of choices, new and especially used, Try to listen to as many as you can and see what you like best.
  10. Thanks Audible Nectar, I was kinda thinking along the same lines after hearing the Cd... which is garbage. I was just holding out hope that they went back to the masters and produced a quality LP set. Which would, as you stated, leave an even worse taste in my mouth for putting out garbage to begin with, and then then bilking their fans for all they're worth for a good recording.
  11. Just wondering if anybody forked out the $130 for the 5 lp set of Death Magnetic? If so is it worth it? I know that the CD is really a poor production, and I haven't heard anything about the standard LP. I probably won't get it anyway, unless I sell something as $ is tight now, but I still value any of your opinions....also if any other Metallica on vinyl are good pressings, as my vinyl rock collection is kind of thin..... Thanks for your help
  12. Ok I may get banned for this but I can't resist: try this quick and easy guide.....(not directed to Marvel in any way) [][][][6][6][6]
  13. Looks like were all going to get .... Funked Up!!!!
  14. GLA51 is only allotted about 8.3 minuets for sleep, in his training/teaching schedule, over a month period this time of year....... Or thats what he wants us to believe...I think he's up on the mothership, teaching them how to enjoy Sam Adams, Cheep Cigars, and Rock and Roll.....[6][6][6]
  15. It makes my cringe as I realize with everyone of these sick events that there is true EVIL in this world......scares the heck out of me!
  16. Well look at it this way....Pizza Hut was running commercials that implied they went to a restaurant in Italy, did the ole swicharoo and served Pizza Hut pasta to the patrons, who could not tell the difference and thought the pasta was great...... well I suppose if you found the cheapest tour group and offered them free dinner (read in rubes with no taste buds whose biggest dinning extravaganza has been the Mc-rib sandwich) ... they just might find the pasta to be good..... Some folks (sarcastic use of the vernacular of folks) have to put a half a bottle of A-1 on their chop steak and would do the same even if you gave them a $75 dry aged prime filet mignon .....I not judging (well yeah I am) but thats what they like and don't try to tell them any different. Hey if the guy had a pair of Harbeth 40.1 monitors and $30-40K worth of esoteric gear....he may not love your system, but he may just have the ear to make constructive criticisms , and conclude that your system costing a fraction of his, still sounds very very good indeed ..... your friend sounds like he has drank the bose marketing koolade and needs to bash your system to convince himself that spending $3-5 on a bose system was worth it! FWIW I had a pair of cornwall i's run by a $200 40 year old Sansui amp that would give any big dollar system a good run for its money....
  17. Tiger, If you don't mind ,Keep me in the loop with what you are considering/getting......Nice to know what your opinion are on the gear out there....Never know when i want to put together another system.....This may label me a heretic in these parts, but I have fallen in love with the Sonics Anima 2 way monitors....may just have to put a system together around those one day...If business ever gets any better []
  18. If you are into Vinyl and like jazz....you should really treat yourself to a few of the Blue Note rereleases ....quite special indeed the rerelease of Jennifer Warnes Famous Blue Raincoat on 45 IMO is magical, I get so into it I'm truly lost in the music!
  19. the last few that I listened to were one by Hovland (I'd have to look at the model #) and the Rogue Athena and Hera models...(and a Cayin that was no slouch) All wonderfully clear and accurate ....detailed....blah Blah , other stereophile terms.......But for my money my BBX with the 6H30 is just as wonderful at a third the price... The build quality of the Hovland and the Rogues is amazing (Not to imply that the JM products aren't) But they are super slick and the Rogues are tanks.... I spent many hours listening, comparing and except for the slick factor of the Hovland($6K new )....Mark D really has one hell of a special product at a very low (IMO) price point for what you are getting....I'm very glad to able to own one, or I would have to shell out an extra few $K to get the same results.... I have not had the opportunity to listen to one But I here Good things about Trancendents Line Grid Pre....For about $1200?
  20. Lots of options....but one thing you may want to keep in mind is the input impedance on the power amp you are going to use.....If you will use a tube power amp there should be no problem...... but some SS power amps are not compatible with all pre amps...for example since you mentioned Juicy Music....A Mac MC 301 wont be compatible with a BBX ...but will work fine wih a peach because of the Peach's "LoZ" mode.... I'd look up the specs of your power amp and then work from there to narrow your field of choice....... Sorry I can't be much help in the suggestion area.....besides JM products, all the preamps I like are in the $3-5K range
  21. An empty paper towel tube works pretty good too...
  22. I've used some folded wool blankets (thanks Gla51) with amazing results for bass traps.....don't get cheeper than stuff you have in the closet, and they add such a nice decorative flare to the Mancave [][][]
