  1. Shucks you guys maybe I'll start a recipe of the week thread. If Groomslake is holding anything over me, you can bet the recipe's will all have beer I'm them. Lol seriously, I'll answer to the best of my knowledge and culinary questions. Next week, molecular gastronomy 101, spherified fish and transformed chips powder with stout gelee. Ha!
  2. I bet Chinese folks are really miffed at the expensive Chinese food made here in America !!!! Boy is it crap!!!! Especially here in Florida !!! Had some last night and I wanted to barf!! What happened to good Chinese restruants ???? They don't even know what they are now. Chinese/Thai/sushi/Korean mish mash .... Some of the menus are like Encyclopedia britanica ..... no offence to any nationality but They got one half Asian girl up front for appearances, a Cuban cook, three Haitian asst. and a Peruvian waitress with a fake accent. WTF !!! All I want is some frigin wonton soup that doesn't taste like the miso soup strained out. And speaking if miso , that wouldn't be bad if it didn't come out of a package , but If I wanted Japanese I'd go to the soul food joint because they do it better than the Thai guy making sushi at the sushi place!!!!! Forget it.... I'll just go to the Jewish deli for a slice of pizza and a gyro... Did I leave anyone out??? :)

  4. Heli01..... Thanks ! Maybe you have. All about keeping it simple Dtel.... That's why I disappear for months at a time.... Chained up in a kitchen lol actually I love love slow slow cooking for large cuts and I really love "sous vide "( under vacuum) for steaks, chicken/duck breast ect. I use an olive oil based marinade on the protein and seal it in a "food saver" type vacuum bag. The negative pressure forces the marinade deep into the meat very fast. Then you "thermalize" the bag in a circulation bath. ( pot on the stove on warm with a thermometer works) at a temp of 125-130 degrees. For about 30-40 min. This slowly brings the "steak" to rare very evenly and at that point is considered "oil poached ". Then I throw it in a blazing hot Pan or grill to sear the crap out of both sides for about a minute. Awesome!!! whoops sorry for rambling hijack.....
  5. Coytee.... Bender here... I've been a professional chef (exec in the NY ritz carlton among other top restaurants ) my whole adult life.... I have a battery of smokers hot and cold, induction, infrared, japanese konru with binchotan oak coals, blah blah blah and what I use at home is the little weber with good old kingsford charcoal. great for steaks and you can get it very hot especially if you use wood coals for a great sear.... very easy to control the temp, great for dogs, burgers fish, anything...... The Green egg is a wonderful device and I would say that it can be used for just about anything, but slow radiant cooking with its thick walls are what it looks to me is its speciality..... saying that, I've only seen them and never tried one. Trick for "Black and blue" or "Pittsburgh"........ Trim your steaks and leave uncovered in the refer at least overnight ( i like 48-72 hours), a few hours prior to cooking season your strips with herbs or pepper only.....(no salt prior to cooking, salt causes hyper-osmosis and you'll have a puddle of juice that should be in your steak ) and leave them out at room temp for 2-3 hours to get the interior from 35 degrees to 70 or so...... then just before grilling add your salt..... cook over very hot coals a 2-3 min each side depending on thickness.... and dont let the flames lick up or you will have burn and not caramelization . that will give you rare interior....cool not cold, blue starting to turn red...... I like to keep one side of the grill with little to no coals and then move them there to finnish if more temp is required.... more art than science....every grill, coal, steak combo is different.... just got to burn a few before you hit the right combo... lol
  6. Thanks for letting me know about your experience with the Atlas Magnum. I have to believe that if your Atlas is reasonably quiet paired with Khorns, the Cronus shouldn't be causing troubles with less sensitive Chorus IIs. - Matt the only thing your chorus II should exaggerate is poor source material. Through all my Klipsch gear, poorly recorded material sounds bad. Very unforgiving because they are revealing. I know it's frustrating but I think you have a bad relay or something in your amp. Should be a quick fix
  7. The Magnum upgrade on the cronus gets the KT 90 output tubes.... the standard EL-34's are only pushing 60 watts... I have the atlas magnum (same design) with KT 90's that is dead quiet through klipschorns.... depending on the preamp, need to put my ear up to the grillcloth to hear any hiss with the preamp cranked.... Right now I have a perseus (4 tube mu follower) in the main system and it is dead silent... My BBX II is almost as quiet also except for the high gain phono, but thats the nature of the beast. got to be something wrong with unit... it happens even to the best.... I'd send it back, or talk to Rogue and see if there is a dealer in your area who can check it out for you?
  8. That they do!!!! The human race could learn from them. Every one of my dogs has taught me so much. Especially to love, not to judge, and live in the present. They are always with me and truly make me believe in something bigger than myself.
  9. RIP Nola Passed a few months ago due to congenital problems at just five.... she was very very special and we miss her dearly.... Crazy how much you can love your dogs...... More like children with out all the backtalk and attitude....
  10. I own several pieces of rogue equipment and they are very very high quality.... even your Cronus which is Rouge's "entry" int. has better guts, build quality, and engineering than some other supposed "high end" fancy scmancy manufacturers offerings...... That being said I had a problem with my rogue phono pre producing a "hum" not a ground loop or RF and sent it back.... bad part and they fixed it right up.... I'm afraid you may have to send it in for a fix. If they find that it was a bad part, try to get them to pay for shipping back to you at least. one other thing it could be is RF interference..... have you tried turning off your WIFI? moving positions or in another room..... sometimes they can pick up RF and with the sensitive chorus it is amplified.... Just a thought....
  11. "Every time a girl is born, Satan gets another soldier" Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!!!!
  12. "This woman was 26 and a grad student. Smoking hot red head, I was willing to learn to appreciate cheapo earbuds, but her I-pod listening husband wasn't having it." Ah the smoking hot redhead syndrome ..... that can make RAP sound great through earbuds.....LOL Funny you mention that as we had company over last night, and the "smoking hot redhead" was GUSHING over my main system .....and when I pulled out the vinyl!!!!...... Well what can I say.....MY WIFE WOULD HAVE NONE OF IT. Damn wives, spoil all of your fun! LOL
  13. From what I know.... There is the apple airport extream That is the wireless router base station and the airport express .... That are wifi recivers with USB , RCA ect jacks so you can plug them into any audio system/ printer/ ect as a relay ( I believe the express can also be used as a range extender). AirTunes is built into the firmware of the airports so it can seamlessly transmit iTunes via wifi . apple TV works much the same way for music/ data ( its a wifi receiver). But also can be used to stream video to a tv monitor. I think it has a few other features but I have not used the apple TV. So many toys. So little time to enjoy them. with all the tech..... I still lovemy vinyl and the ritual of it!!!!
  14. Sounds like your set. now maybe it's me, but I would swear that all my ripped CDs, saved lossless and then played back via AirTunes through a benchmark DAC sound much better than the original CD that it was ripped from. And I have a really good CD player.
  15. I wonder if the swifer would work on the twins if you ever get tired of them....... OMG I can't believe I said that! LOL
  16. Perhaps my search skills are not the best but I see around 400 bucks for one of these! Well...... not that cheap, compared to decent display monitor these days. I drank the apple koolaide a long time ago lol I love my Iphone/ipad remotes and not being tethered to anything. sorry to read your system crashed... I've never encountered a single problem
  17. Pick up a refurb ipad 1 for cheap and run itunes remote free from app store ..... you can carry it all over the house and have full control.... works great I dont use apple tv, but have 3 airport express hooked up to all my sytems in much the same way you have.
  18. One of my favorite all time heresy matches is the sansui Au 7900 integrated ..... of course they are about 30 years old now, but they do pop up often and are tanks! Yes they are black! They sound awesome!!!
  19. Steely Dan Brooklyn Owes the Charmer Under Me.................................. . A race of angels Bound with one another A dish of dollars Laid out for all to see A tower room at Eden Rock His golf at noon for free Brooklyn owes the charmer Under me His lady's aching To bring a body down She daily preaches On where she wants to be An evening with a movie queen A face we all have seen Brooklyn owes the charmer Under me A case of aces Done up loose for dealing A piece of island cooling in the sea The whole of time we gain or lose And power enough to choose Brooklyn owes the charmer Under me
  20. Let me start by saying that the way we perceive music, art,food,wine..... Is very subjective and until we are educated in some of the finer points and have had time to compare " Boonesfarm tickle pink" tastes just great. That being said, pop music will always be that ( for the masses). There are a lot of companies and engineers taking great pains to remaster all of the old favorites. Steve Hoffman has nailed it with his Blue Note, etc series of jazz releases and in many cases equal or rival the originals. I am fortunate that I have the despots able income to buy several copies of my favorite music and in about 80-85% of the case a mint original release still kicks but over any format new release..... But that's my perseption.
  21. I guess it really depends on what system/devices you are listening to music on..... On my main system I listen to mostly vinyl.... Through out my house ( three systems) I pipe itunes via wifi and keep everything in lossless format on a two terabyte drive, no comparison to mp3's .... even in my office with a $150 reciever and BA booksheves. Buttttt For what they were originally intended ( strictly supposition on my part), MP3's are fine... ipods while running on the treadmill, driving down the road with my big ole noisy SUV.... for those such purposes I can't tell a difference Same reasoning that as a photo hobbiest I shoot everything in RAW (lossless) format. Save as a Photoshop and a TIFF file and then only convert down to a JPG to post pics on facebook, email, etc. All just tools, chose the right ones.... Unfortunately to many of us are just that "Tool's" LOL and use my good german carving knife to pry off the lid off a bucket of paint!!! ( She knows who she is!!!!) Seriously, there is a whole new generation that has never heard anything better than a "hot"MP3 through ear buds, and will never know the difference! Crying shame!!
  22. I thought it was me!! I used to go on every other day or so and just "window shop" Picking up something now and again.... now I can't stand to go on!!! I'm all for positive change but the new site is annoying ......
  23. My Beloved Nola!!! RIP my little girl....we miss you
