  1. arriagaricardo, Phase is talking about electrical "Phase" in an Alternating Curent circuit. You may of heard of electricl 3-phase circuits for industrial use? Anyhow, 120 volt house current is single phase, it has a sign wave, the hot wire reverses direction back and forth, so there is both a positive and negative voltage peak and trough, this phase change takes place 60 times a second. Suffice it to say that any wires that are switched somewhere can put a subwoofer out of "Phase" with another subwoofer, or your other speakers. This can happen many ways, your Sub is usually plugged into a seperate recepticle from your surround amplifier. Didthe idiot who wired the house correctly put all hots on the short blade only (wires often get pig tailed, and other things happen where the hot and neutral could get things reversed. Did all the workers on all the cords not correctly wire the inside of a cable, inside the subwoofer, or wherever in one of the circuits?? Those chineese guys might not be doing the best possible job working on the line for 25 cents an hour. What it boils down to is that if the sub is out of phase with your other speakers, the woofer cone will be pulling in on the sub, when the other speakers are pushing out, and visa versa. This will reduce your db output or volume level. Switch the switch back and forth to see which way sounds louder, it will be subtle. If you have two subs, shut one off and do each sub independantly, one at a time to assure everything is in propper phase. Simple as that. Roger
  2. Let me answer your question very simply. I am using Nakamichi PA-7 amplifiers on K-Horns, and they are rated at 200 watts per channel. It is distortion, not power that blows speakers PERIOD!!! If you go to where the clipping L.E.D.s are barely flickering and back off to just where they never light, you should be fine. About a week ago I took one of my Nakamichis over to a friends house who is using a pair of old Soundcraftsman Pro 2 channel amps for two of his K-Horns and two of his LaScalas. These two amplifiers drive four channels at 385 Watts each!! We hooked my Nakamichi to the left channel and one of his to the right channel. At 12 oclock his clip lights began to flutter, at 3 oclock his LEDs were almost continuosly on and mine barely began to flutter ocassionaly, at a hair past 3 oclock, he blew a woofer from the distortion from his amp. He stated; "I think your amp sounds better, but it's Nakamichi after all, but I think my amp has more balls". I am sure he was putting at least 275 to 300 watts through that speaker before he knocked out that woofer, my seperate power meter only reads to 200 watts RMS. I will further state that same guy has blown several woofers with his Adcom amp that is only 135 Watts per channel. It is all about clean power and distortion. Roger
  3. Happy B-day Amy!! Any B-Day suit photos??? Roger
  4. wsu99999, While I can't speak to if your individual Heresy has a problem or not, I will say that at 104db/1watt/1meter, that the Lascals are putting out almost 3 times the accoustic sound pressure, that sounds to the human ear as almost twice as loud. One Heresey at 96 db/1 watt/1 meter would only increase to 99db with a pair of Hereseys!! You would have to back the crap out of your front left and right speakers. I loved the articulation of my Quartets, and even though more sensitive than Hereseys at 97.5 dg/1 watt/ 1 meter, you couldn't even tell they were playing in a small to medium sized room when the K-Horns were running. I would advise to bite the bullet and buy a single LaScala. It will be all smiles from there!! Roger
  5. Not to downplay this V-8 small block Chevy, but have you seen the scale Ferrari another builder made?? Not only did he do a complete 12 cylinder, but he did the entire car to scale and working!! The transmission actually changes gears, actuated by the clutch pedal and shifter, it steers, has fully working drive train and suspension. Roger
  6. Daddy Dee, Edgar is correct. It is a 3 dimentional object, so you need to divide by the length x width x heighth, or divide by (6 x 6 x 6) Roger
  7. $500 for a stinking Corvette?? You could buy an extra pair of LaScalas for that kind of coin if you keep looking!!! Roger
  8. Shawn, It was an MC-12HD, I had a watch on it, but descided to put my question to the forum befor pulling the trigger, to see if there was something out there similar in this price range used that I should look at. It sold for $3,065. There is a MC-12 on now with an opening bid of $2000. Roger
  9. Perhaps I should clarrify what I am looking at, and I want to compare too. I want something used, that is just a few years old or less, that I can get for arroud $3,000 used because somebody is loosing their butt in this economy. I will paste a picture of the same model Lexicon I was looking at, with a MSRP of $13,995. One just sold on ebay slightly used from a 100% feedback seller for $3,065!! As soon as you buy a processor, it will become old techknowlogy as fast as a computer. I hated the sound of the "Pushy Button" Kenwoods of the day. I don't need, or want 1000 hookups I will never use like on that Integra unit. NAD is good gear, but I want no compromise great gear with build quality that is on another plane. I am looking into the used Meridian gear as suggested. I would much rather have the best guts then the most functions. The Nakamichi PA-7s were over $2,000 each back in 1989. A used Krell amp that can be had for arround $2700 used is a $10,000 amp new. Below is the processor I am considdering, and would like input on comparable models I should look for in this price range on the used market. Thanks for being patient and helpful...... 10. I have four old Nakamichi PA-7s in very good condition presently. I have always been happy with the PA-7s, but after I buy a processor, I may buy a used 2 channel Krell amp with 200 watts per channel, to compare the two. I am a big believer in multiple amps over multi-channel amplification. Roger
  11. Somebody emailed me regaurding selling their Nakamichi PA-7 or PA-7II amp, and I cant locate the email. Please resend to rgordon@watchtv.net Thanks... Roger
  12. It has been a few years since I followed real heavily on gear. I am getting ready to purchase a new 7 channel surround sound processor. I want to know who makes the best processor out there that is also exceptional and stands out in two channel as well as 7 channel stereo. I am already very happy with my amplification that I have, so I am looking for a processor. I don't want to spend more than about $3,000 on a processor. So far I have been looking at Krell and some Lexicon, and really like what I see in the Lexicons. Any input in sound quality between the two?? Any recomendations for other contenders in this price range?? Sorry if this double posts.... Roger
  13. Sonny, I set up a surround sound settup very similar to yours for my parrents. I started with two pairs of KSF 10.5 towers and an RC-3II center channel with a Velodyne HGS-10 sub. I then sold the RC-3II center and bought an RC-7 center, and I bought them a pair of RF-7s for up front. As cheaply as a pair of KSF 10.5 towers can be bought, I would suggest these all arround if you have the room, it will also sound much better in 7 channel stereo mode. The RC-7 center was the best upgrade I made for the money, after that, I would suggest you upgrade your sub as money allows. If you email me at rgordon@watchtv.net I can send some pictures. Roger
  14. A girl I went to college with, got a brand new sports car given early as a graduation present the night before finals. On finals day, she took me and some others out for lunch during break. When we were leaving the lot, I was in the back seat and noticed a van backing out directly across from her at the same time. I yelled stop, and she did, the van continued and struck her pretty good, about $4,000 in damage. I gave my statement and was later contacted by the vans insurance agent. The insurance agent said the van owner said he had started backing out first, and wanted to know if I had noticed that. I told the agent that I did not actually see the exact instance that the van started to back out in relation to her, so I could not swear to it, but I stated that is a mute point as that I yelled stop an she had been stationary for about a full second or so before the van continued and made contact with her, and if the van driver could not see her sitting there stationary, how would he know at what point she started to move at?? I never heard any more about it. In response to others here, I have a 1967 big block fastback GT mustang, and I can park 200 yards away from the closest car at the mall, and there will be 4 to 6 idiots parked arround me, still 200 yards from everyone else when I come out. As for the close parkers, I believe scratching or kicking the car is too expensive and permanent. Instead I find a very small stone in the parking lot and drop it in the valve stem cap and tighten till I hear the air escaping. I do this to at least two tires so they can't just put on the spair. This wastes alot more of their time then a scratch or dent does at the moment of the offense. You don't wait to punish your child, nor should punishment be over the top. I will also regularly go off on some dumb Bit*h that is inconsiderate enough to park in the handycap spot in their lexus or mercedes. Usually a woman, but one time it was a guy, he looked healthy enough, and young, after I yelled at him, he knocked on his prosthetic, he did not have a plate, sticker, or hanging piece on the mirror. I felt real small, but the guy thanked me, and said he wished that there were more who really cared enough to say something. Roger
  15. Coytee, If you are really considering building it, why not go by PWKs orriginal dimentional recomendations for an 18 inch woofer (like done for old Electro Voice) and make an exact upscaled version of the LaScala base bin. A single 18 inch driver with the same throw as the pair of 12s in a Jubilee is closer in actual air movement to a pair of 12s than a single 15 inch driver. All other factors equal, a single 18 moves slightly more air than a pair of 12s, and should obviously go deeper. You could even pick up an old Electro Voice 18W-K rated at 4 ohms for horn loading. The "K" specifically denotes Klipsch, or for the Klipsch design. Roger
  16. That's when you say, "Honey, if you can carry them out of the house, then we will talk about it", but then again, if she can carry them out of the house, you should have divorced her already!! [:|] Yikes!!! What is the efficeincy rating on those things by the way?? Roger
  17. I guess my high school friend Karen Kuntz would be out also (I kid you not.......) Fenderbender, My wifes maiden name was Koontz. We have some Kuntz arround here as well, but here they are both prononced with the oo sound. One of my oldest friends name is Michael Brian Hunt,...... Think Mike Hunt and say it fast!! He always told everyone his name was Brian. There was also a guy who grew up near my cousin that his parrents named him John,........ That wouldn't have been so bad if the family name wasn't Camode, and I sh*t you not either!! There was also a kid I used to make fun of all the time back in my school days named Leonard Gay, and he looked the part as well. Roger Roger.... we all knew that her name was pronounced with the oo sound but we liked torturing her anyway I kid not about this....We had a kid in our pack named Darryl ***, innocent enough.....fathers name was Harry ***, his poor sister....Anita....what the hell were they thinking!!!! She went by the name Ann but off course as little brothers would always do, is tell us her real name!!!!! Fenderbender, Are you from Ohio??? There was a Debbie D**k that I went to high school with, didn't know her well enough to know any of her family. Roger

  19. Call the 1-800-Klipsch line and ask tech support if they have a specific issue that causes this with your unit. Guys go out of their way to try to help, may be a free fix, you never know. Roger
  20. fini, What an abrasive thing to say!![6] Roger
  21. Stock up during Jewishholiday of passover where they cannot eat corn, so the softdrink companys use pure cane sugar denoted by the green cap on the 2 liter sodas. Jay, Thanks for the info, but what are the dates of passover?? Do they bottle in other than 2 liter as I hate 2 liter. Roger I think its April something usually, it changes from year to year. Also the cane sugar cola tends to be sold in higher jewish populated areas. Also they sell sugar cane where corn is not cheap, I went to Korea during the summer and the big name sodas (pepsi, coke, etc) use sugar cane cause its cheaper to use it than corn due the the nature that corn is not planted there and thus expensiver. Jay, Thanks for the info!! That would explain why I haven't run into it..... We have Catholics, Mormons, & the Salomi, Salomi, Bolognia groups arround here, but not many of the Jewish faith. Roger
  22. fenderbender, Dam*, I had a good chance with girth, could have entered my 6 year old in length in about 12 years, but you want mass. Can I enter my younger brother?? [~] Roger [:'(]
  23. oldtimer, I miss Frostie Rootbeer, and cane sugar coke, but have not seen cane sugar DP. If I am looking for it, is there a way to distinguish from the corn stuff???, as I would like to check it out. Roger MR. Frostie Rootbeer! We had the family Christmas party at our house and ran out of room in the fridge. Wel, mother nature provided us with the biggest fridge of all.......we left it out back in the snow. Mighty Favog, What year was your family Christmas gettogether?? My grandmother always kept 16 oz bottles of Frosty Rootbeer and Oarnge Crush on hand to make us kids boston coolers, and home made rice pudding!! Roger I was at the ripe old age of about 5 or 6 years old, so it had to be around 1971. Mighty Favog, PCP, LSD, are you from the class of 83??? And from Ohio as well. Did you get that TT up to snuff yet?? What part of Law are you involved in?? Roger
  24. Oldtimer, Side step and evade the issue at hand, never admit that you may be wrong. He would make a 5 star politician!! "I smoked but I never inhaled!!", "I did not have sex with that woman!!" Roger
