  1. Khorn, Are you in MA? I would love to check it out at some point! I also like to have people over to see my set up.... Ed
  2. I have a pair of KLF-20's and several pairs of KG 5.5 and there is quite a difference..The KLF-20's (in my humble opinion) are far superior, the detail, clarity and openness of sound is easily apparent. The 5.5's have a nice bass presence, are quite good if not being compared side by side, they are what I would call a "Good Rock and Roll speaker". Let me know what your ears "say", Ed
  3. If Khorn51 doesnt take it, I also have an orphaned Local built Klipschorn looking for a mate and would like the speaker, e mail sent! Ed
  4. I veneered the Khorns, not factory Originals...I do not believe that pic is Bills Khorns, unless he built some false corners I didnt know about and traded down his subs. Here is a pic of one before Bill got em. Although I did buy them in Buffalo NY..they were born Birch Raw, Ed
  5. This is my current set up.... only the small Mcintosh speakers and mc101 are gone.
  6. Ok, I have been moving towards this project like a turtle, slow and steady... I have Klipschorns and drive them with Mcintosh gear, I have a c-28 which has a center channel output so of course I think I have to add a speaker in the middle. Well first I need to get an appropriate Center....Got a Belle...check! Next I need to upgrade my 2 channel amp (mc2105) or add another matching channel....traded up to a 7106, 6 channels or 3 bridged, perfect!...check! Now all I have to do is rip my entire system apart, remove my present shelving (which was quite a project finding just the right set up) and find a way to fit all the electronics on top of the Belle and to the sides....have not quite figured this part out yet, nor had the time lately. So as I ponder the set up and look for just the right shelves which will A. Fit the space, B. Look good and meet the local WAF code, C. be in my price range and D. fit my equipment it occurs to me....is this going to be worth all the effort? Now, I am commited (or should be) and I am going to complete this set up change at some point, but I am curious what others experience to this same situation is. Paul Klipsch used a center long before the days of "surround sound" and we know that is why the Heresy was developed etc. I read about people looking for the right center all the time, is everyone doing home theater with their Heritage Klipsch? What is the benefit? will my imaging improve? Please share your old school center channel experience with me! Thanks! Ed
  7. I just picked up a px-3 also! I haven't even hooked it up yet...I hope everything works, it sure looks good!
  8. A few things to consider when you decide to recap your Klipschorns, based on my experience only.... I bought the Crites do it yourself recap kit which was the most affordable high quality alternative (in my opinion). I had a friend perform the actual install as I am not confident in my ability to do this properly and didnt want to learn on Klipschorns...maybe next time on something a little less important! At first I HATED the way they sounded! they were MUCH brighter and my ears were used to the way they sounded before...I thought I had ruined my speakers! I read about "break in period" and some people say they need to burn in, but an e mail to Bob Crites informed me of no such thing. He stated that the values need to stay constant and any degradation from use would be a bad thing. My ears were what needed the "break in time" and after a while I grew accustomed to the new sound and now I love the speakers again! Now, here is the thing about the recap.... To do the upgrade with the kit, you cut out the old parts and wire in the new. If I could have done it over I think I would have bought new crossovers and swapped the whole thing out, that way if I wanted to "go back" I could just swap the whole thing over again. (trying to reinstall the old caps after they had been cut out of the crossovers was not a viable option) but of course that costs more. Also the intact crossover retains a value if you eventualy decided to "dispose" of it. I have read nothing but great reviews about ALK crossovers and I am sure they are fabulous, but you pay for that quality, it is much more than the basic "recap". Just my 2 cents.... Ed
  9. Another pic of the electronics.... I still need to bring the belle in and reconfigure the system, I need to find a good, correct size equipment stand and a day off from work first!
  10. Bill, I have plans for the Adcom, thanks for the offer! Here is a pic! The Polk SDA's in the front are in the way, they are for sale if anyone is interested! I finaly got time to listen to my new amp and it is fantastic! Much more open and airy, I hear an improvement in Imaging and the detail in the high end is much improved! The Bass is tighter and stronger also. I am surprised at how much better it sounds than my 2105 did (and the 2105 just had a recap).
  11. Rich, do you find the center channel helps with imaging?
  12. Well, I did the deal, it was tough to hand over my beautifull 2105 with its walnut case but the 7106 is an extremely nice looking unit its own way and achieves the goal I need. I will post after I get it all hooked up and auditioned. Ed
  13. This is a rather specific question....I hope someone out there can offer an opinion to help! I currently am powering my Klipschorns with Mcintosh C-28 preamp and a Mc2105 105 watt power amp, these are basicaly matched pieces from the same time period and have been restored / recapped. My c-28 has an output for a center channel, which shares the source from left and right and outputs to a third amplifier. I picked up a Belle to use as the center, but now I need another amp channel, I have been loooking for a Mc250 or 2100 but the cost is a bit prohibitive and haven't bought one yet. Here is the question...I have a chance to trade my MC 2105 plus a few hundred dollars for a MC 7106, which is bridgeable to 3 channels and would fill the need for a third amp (with more power also). I am afraid topull the trigger as my 2105 is matched to the C-28 is a "2 channel analog amp" and the 7106 is considered a "home theater amp". I do not have the option of auditioning at home for comparison the new amp in advance of making my decision. An internet search yielded mixed reviews with a couple calling the older electronics more "musical" and the newer more detailed and "sterile" whatever all that means..I do know that my Adcom 5800 sounded a little better than the MC2105 when I used it in the system as I noticed a little more detail, and I liked that for all its worth, but I prefer the asthetics of the Mcintosh in my Living Room 2 Channel set up. Anyone have an opinion to share? Thanks! Ed
  14. I thought the halftime show was "entertaining". A lot better than some of the truly pathetic attempts I have seen in the past. Must get tough trying to outdo the year before again and again... I was wondering how many millions of dollars it took to produce that? Madonna is still kinda sexy, even old. I don't own any of her recordings, but I think it appealed to most demographics, obviously an almost impossible thing to do. Funny thing, I knew the other "stars" sharing the spotlight were artists of some recognizable sort but I had no idea who they were.. Throw in some rappers to appeal to the "younger folks"!
  15. It turns out they are Voice of Music Model 62 speakers, I stumbled on an ad for a similar looking speaker (it was a model 42) which led me to a site to identify them! web site is www.thevoiceofmusic.com They were $85.00 in 1962, they are 3 ways Ed
  16. I have an old pair of Lafayette speakers that have a small resemblence, but other than that "sixties look" not much in common. I will have to work on getting the back off again...maybe I will have more luck with the other one... Ed
  17. Why don't you put a pair of Klipscorns in the Korners? I have all 3 and that would be my recomendation!
  18. I picked up a sweet pair of speakers yesterday and was wondering if anyone could ID them or provide any info... I tried taking the back off, after removing about 20 screws I couldn't even pry it off and didnt want to damage it trying toooo hard. They look to be solid wood, maybe olive or a stained maple or something similar with perfect cane grills. my estimation would be late sixties, possibly earlier. thy have screwed on stands but look like they could hang on the wall, I havent hooked them up to listen yet...later today hopefully. I cant imagine they will have any Bass being so thin. Please look at the pics and any info would be helpfull! they had serial numbers taped on the back....B-526798 and B-526805 but no other info Thanks! pic 1 front Ed
  19. I was reading a post by "DeafbyKHorns" and he was talking about some Mcintosh equipment he had gone through before selling here on the forums. It struck me that I have some Mcintosh equipment I need someone to "make sure are up to spec" before I put them into service as my new main system. Unfortunately he is in Florida and I am in MA, so approaching him for help won't exactly work, but is it possible there is someone in my area who has the expertise to go through my Amp, Preamp and Tuner, test and update as needed and would be willing to get paid by equipment exchange? I have a good stock of "stuff" including Klipsch Speakers, amps, preamps, receivers, turntables, tape, tuners, you name it (I am a hoarder 1st class!) etc. Thanks! Ed
  20. I think I know why so many people say that Khorns need Tubes. I recapped my AA crossovers with a crites Kit and thought they became overly harsh with the SS equipment I was using. My "high end roll off" was in the old caps, now I am experimenting with different Amps to get the sound I like again. I am not sure why but I have no imaging any longer. I still haven't found a combo I like. I snipped out the old caps and put in the Kit. I wish I had replaced the whole crossover so if I didnt like it I could have easily switched it back. I am thinking about trying another xover network but I am going to try a few more Amplifier sources first.
  21. Cat Stevens Hard Headed woman...it images great!
